One of the defining changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is the proliferation of remote work, alternatively known as telework or work from home. Technology had been advancing to the point that many jobs could be done at least in part from home. With a work laptop, video calling, a stable internet connection, and a cyber security program, many office jobs can be done at home without any serious hindrance. When COVID started, many white collar employees became full time remote workers. Six years after the start of the pandemic, many of these people still work at least in part from home. Recent years have seen rising skepticism about remote work, particularly among management. Questions have been raised about whether people working from home are as productive or efficient as those in the office. Similarly, whether work culture can be as effectively created with people often working from home has also become a topic of discussion. Long story short, remote work is, to some degree, here to stay. But to what degree? Do the costs outweigh the benefits? Come discuss this at Brussels Debaters!

**First time comers** Please make sure to read the rules and contact the organizer before! Otherwise you will be moved to waiting list. Apologies for inconvenience but we have to do it to avoid no-shows. **Games format.** 95% are double games (unless someone needs a break), typically 4 people play together 2 sets and then mix with players from other fields. We play with plastic shuttles - Yonex Mavis 2000 (which are provided). **Registration** If it's your first time, please send a private message to the host to confirm. No-shows are taken quite seriously because they unbalance the games a lot. Also once you register please keep an eye on you private messages, in case we need to contact you. **Players level** Having players with much less experience often unbalances the game making it much less interesting for more experienced players. We still try to be welcoming. As a rule of thumb, if you know what a "clear" is, you are welcome to join. (Note that on Sundays the attitude is a bit more relaxed than on Wednesdays, it's the weekend after all ;) ) Otherwise, feel free to get in touch with me (Timur) and we can see if we can arrange so you and existing players can have good experience playing. **Price and payments** The price of participation is EUR 8.95. Payment is on-site in cash, or via payconiq. Info provided during or shortly after the event. **Cancelations and no-shows** * Switches and cancellations are free of charge if done more than 50 hours before the start of the matches * If you cancel within the 50-hour window before the event starts, you will be placed on the wait-list for the next week's event, whether or not a replacement is found. If no replacement is secured, you'll still need to cover your share of the costs.

Once a month we get together to discuss a book written by a woman author. We will read all kinds of literary genres. We choose any published work provided that it discusses gender issues and that it is written by a woman author. We want to discuss books that empower us to be ourselves and bring change to the world. During the discussion, we will answer the following questions: \- what resonated with me? \- what did I learn? \- what can I apply? **This month's book is ["The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula K. Le Guin](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18423.The_Left_Hand_of_Darkness).** At the end of the event, we choose the book to be read on the following event based on the suggestions of the participants. **Who is this book club for?** The reading club is open to everyone, not only women! The discussion will be in English, but locals and internationals alike are welcome! We will limit the group to 12 people to ensure that everyone has the chance to speak and encourage discussion. The meeting will serve as a discussion, so don't forget to read the book beforehand ;) **About the volunteers:** Viviana has been living in Leuven for 12 years. She loves reading and loves to share this passion with other people. She is one of the volunteers and founder of the regular IHL book club Written by Women. Vanessa is originally from Puerto Rico and has been living near Leuven for the last 3 years. She is very curious and loves reading (especially books that surprise her) and seeing other's perspectives through stories.

This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Most nights here at Improv Meetup, we play "short form" games, where the host has established rules that the players must adhere to. These scenes frequently do not tell a connected story and are focused on following those rules; games such as "Alphabet Game" where every next sentence needs to start with the next letter of the alphabet, or "Interrogation" where it's a guessing game. Tonight is focused on "long form", where we will see groups of people come up and do a sort of improvised play. There may be rules to the structure itself to adhere to, or it may be more free form, but doing this allows players to establish a shared world, and to establish characters and callbacks. While your average game may last 2-3 minutes, a long form set will last much longer, and have 4+ people involved. This may be a more complicated night, but we will make sure you feel supported to try this out. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment.
