šŸ’ŽšŸŽ¬ CRIME 101
šŸ’ŽšŸŽ¬ CRIME 101
***🐭 Always have an exit as one heist connects them all. This definitely makes for some tension right?*** šŸ‘‹ **Hey guys**, picture this — **Crime 101** is all about a master thief pulling off high-end heists along the Pacific coast. But here’s the kicker: the scoop is there is this detective who’s convinced all these jewel robberies are connected. So, it looks like a cat-and-mouse game—sharp, tense, and with that coastal noir vibe. This is actually based on a short story by **Don Winslow**, and the film is directed by **Bart Layton** who’s known for blending real-life crime with a gripping narrative style—so we can expect some clever twists along the way! We’ll meet first for drinks at the **Victory House White Wine Bar** before heading to **VUE Cinema (Screen 6).** We'll be around **row C**, but feel free to pick you preferred seat. After the film we’ll reconvene to score and review it for our **[Letterboxd Page](https://letterboxd.com/movieroadhouse)**. **If you’re into stylish crime thrillers, then we should check this out!** **See you guys at the meetup** **Jonny & Raj** \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- šŸ‘‰ **HEADS UP** * If you **sign up** but later can’t make it, please šŸ™ **just drop me a quick message** (or change your RSVP) — it really helps with planning. Harlots and Strumpets and Tarts (Anti) Valentines Special!
Harlots and Strumpets and Tarts (Anti) Valentines Special!
LOOKING FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO DO THIS VALENTINES TO GET AWAY FROM ALL THE SACCHARINE STUFF...? THEN LOOK NO FURTHER! Hogarth, Harlots, Moll Flanders... you've seen the paintings, watched the TV shows and read the books... now visit the places that London's REAL strumpets called home. Allow your guide, 'The Baroness' to transport you back to the London of three hundred years ago and into the steamy underworld of the Georgian sex worker. Meet the women that 'made it', and those that ended up in the gutter; the high class courtesans and the gin-addled street walkers; the business-savvy Brothel Madams and the corrupted country girls. Hear the stories of the women that weren't often given a voice - in a trade that existed to serve men and the patriarchy. What was it really like for them, and have we learned the lessons of the past? Back by popular demand, Eighteenth Century London's sordid, saucy, and often brutal sex industry is dramatically and comically brought to life in this immersive, theatrical experience for Valentines. What better way to celebrate the season of 'love' than with a wander with the "*connoisseurs"* And when your thirst for lewd women, saucy stories and harrowing histories has been well and truly quenched, we'll finish the experience at a tavern that takes it's name from one of the most notorious courtesans of all time - The Nell Gwynne! Tour starts at Covent Garden tube station and ends at Nell Gwynne Tavern. Run time: approximately 2 hours. Small groups. Fancy dress, lovers and 'single ladies' all warmly welcomed...;- Book: http://www.herstoricaltours.co.uk/harlots

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Love and Monsters
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Love and Monsters
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **ā€œLove and Monsters,ā€** on the inescapable bond between romance and horror, with Joshua Barton, scholar of horror and lecturer in English at Virginia Commonwealth University. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/nv-love-monsters](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/nv-love-monsters) .] Romance and horror might seem like opposite genres, but they share a deep emotional core, and the combination of them has captivated audiences across time and culture. Put even your worst Valentine’s Day in perspective by hearing this strange relationship discussed by Joshua Barton, who has earned a big following among Profs and Pints fans with his past talks on cryptids, American horror, and Christmas ghosts. He’ll explore the undeniable and unsettling intersection of romance and horror and examine how and why love and fear intensify each other and combined to create tension, drive narratives, and explore human vulnerability. We’ll look at works that have blended passion and terror, including Gothic literature like the vampire novella *Carmilla* and modern films like *Spring* and *Crimson Peak*. We’ll study the fine line between obsession and adoration running through Stephen King’s ā€œI Know What You Need,ā€ Adrian Lyne’s *Fatal Attraction*, and the timeless *The Phantom of the Opera.* We’ll discuss the seeds of monstrous love that were planted with *Beauty and the Beast* and *Creature from the Black Lagoon* and bloom ferociously in works like *Twilight* and *The Shape of Water*. Through it all, we’ll find the threads of otherness and the taboo that intertwine horror, love, and reflections on identity. Join us for a journey through storytelling that combines the grotesque and the scintillating as we uncover why romance and horror are a match made in the dark. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: From the original 1954 advertising poster for *Creature from the Black Lagoon* (Artist: Reynold Brown / Public Domain).
