**Welcome to the 23rd edition of Locals Meet Expats!** Come alone, bring a dish and leave with real connections. On Saturday, May 30th, I am hosting a special **potluck dinner**, but this is much more than an ordinary dinner party. We are creating an evening where meaningful conversations come first. **What to expect?** **Share your culture** Bring a delicious dish from your home country and discover flavors and stories from around the world. **Genuine connections** Every 30 minutes, we switch tables, making it easy to meet new people throughout the evening. **Skip the small talk** Thoughtful question cards cards will spark conversations about life, inspiration, dreams, philosophy and personal experiences. **Come as you are** Everyone joins alone, so there is no need to worry you will not be the only one coming by yourself. **A warm and safe atmosphere** I will make sure the evening feels open, respectful and welcoming. Let's get together and draw in a cafe! Come sketch with other creatives and make some friends. Bring your sketchbook/paper and whatever materials you'd want and draw whatever you'd like. All levels welcome! You'll find us at the large central blue table. **PLEASE READ:** We ask that if you RSVP "attending" that you actually attend the meetup. If you cannot make it, please release your ticket ***as soon as possible*** to allow others to claim the spot. **People who no-show may be banned from the group.** We meet in cafes with limited seating. If we reserve a large table and our full group does not come, we may not be allowed to return. It's also unfair to all the people on our waitlist who would have loved to attend. There is limited reserved seating, **if you have not officially gotten a place in the meetup, there will not be room for you at the table**. Likewise people may also not bring +1 guests who themselves have not secured a spot in the meetup.

Do you want to capture the streets and memories of Amsterdam in your own sketchbook? Join local artist, illustrator, and travel sketcher Ellie for a guided sketching walk through the picturesque Amsterdam East. We’ll stroll approx 2 km, sketching and experimenting with different techniques along the way. **What's included** * **A 2 hour guided session by Ellie,** who will give drawing exercises as we go to help you learn and develop different techniques to document life, the streets and buildings of Amsterdam * **A5 sketchbook** (for you to use and take home) * **Art materials**: Graphite pencil, handful of Eccoline brush pens, handful of colour pencils and water-brush (for use in the session and to be given back at the end) **Do I need any drawing experience?** * No, all levels are welcome. * The exercises will be the same for everyone, but Ellie will guide and tailor feedback based on your level **What to bring** * A willingness to experiment in your sketchbook! * Comfy shoes, warm clothes, a drink, and a coat if it's cold **Price** * €25 - Introductory Meetup offer which will last on events until end of May (usually €50pp) * Includes materials (to use in the session), guided instruction, and your own sketchbook to take home. **Payment** * Pay in advance using Paypal. This is an outside session so if it's raining I will cancel the session the evening before and you will get your money back. If it's a bit cold we will wrap up, wear enough warm clothes and go! **Language** English **Age** * If you are 18 and under you need to come with an adult * Parents & children welcome. Join Yuliya, a visual artist and designer for a sketching walk through the neighbourhoods of Amsterdam, discovering out-of-the-beaten-path areas and cute corners. “Finding curiosities and harmonies of old and new, of pragmatism and playfulness, inspires me the most in the city, and I would like to share this fascination with you”. **What to expect:** * 1,5 hours sketching session with Yuliya, accompanied by tips on composition, use of materials, and tools to capture Amsterdam in your own way * A5 sketchbook * A cheatsheet with curated tips on composition and storytelling. 📍 Hilversum Station, 11:00 → Pinetum → back by ~15:00 🚶‍♂️ Short walk (~20–30 min each way) 🎯 Main location: Pinetum Blijdenstein (€4 entry) This time we’re keeping it shorter and focusing on one beautiful spot: the Pinetum — a small botanical garden dedicated to pine trees, full of interesting shapes, textures, and quiet corners to sketch. We’ll meet at Hilversum Station at 11:00, walk together to the garden (arriving around 11:30), and spend about 2 hours sketching. There are some benches, but not many — please bring a foldable chair if you’d like to sit while sketching (blankets won’t work here). Around 13:30, we’ll head back toward the station. If people feel like it, we can grab coffee and maybe lunch at Mout before wrapping up around 15:00.
