Shut Up & Write!® at the Sofia Center
Shut Up & Write!® at the Sofia Center
Join us for some focused writing time. Whether it’s a short story, a journal, blog, script, essay, poem, social media posts or maybe even a book - you are welcome to write it with us! No one will see what you've written or review your work. The focus is on giving yourself the time and space to work on something you’re interested in and get some writing done. Feel free to bring your own drinks (there’s actually a great cafe just down the street called Rawbite). When you arrive buzz the bell with the Shut Up & Write sign on it! This event will be hosted in a cosy office/ studio space on the ground floor. **What to expect** RSVP on this page and please arrive 5 minutes early on the day to get settled. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, *focused* period of time. Afterwards, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! **Schedule** 11:00 - Quick introductions 11:15 - One hour of focused writing 12:15 - Writing ends! Feel free to hang around for a chat :) **What should I bring?** * Whatever you need to be able to write! * Earbuds if you want to listen to music. **About Shut Up & Write!** Shut Up & Write!® hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. We aim to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to succeed in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress. Intro to GitHub Copilot: Your AI Pair Programmer - Chris Steele
Intro to GitHub Copilot: Your AI Pair Programmer - Chris Steele
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus. In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks. Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday. **YouTube Link** TBA
