Historic Little India: Gerrard India Bazaar (REVISED FOR 2026)
Historic Little India: Gerrard India Bazaar (REVISED FOR 2026)
\*\***The Toronto History Walks Explorer Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** The story of historic Little India is a true Toronto success story, a unique look at a neighbourhood and the people who call it home. But the story is not always a happy one. Like all other areas in Toronto, Little India started out as a purely English - Anglican area and was repeatedly changed as other immigrants opted to leave the security of the downtown core for outer areas. With the opening of the Naaz theatre in 1972, the community that became Little India started to take shape, but in Toronto the forces that developed communities were different in that part of the city sandwiched between Leslieville to the south, and Greektown to the north. With a strictly Anglo-Saxon pro-British community entrenched for over 100 years, now changing to include south Asians, the area was seen as a rather depressed area, or an area in transition, and violence was an unfortunate part of life. Racial tensions increased dramatically with the influx of south Asians. But by the 1980s and 1990s the district had found its feet, and Little India was a popular Toronto district and tourist attraction, with visitors pouring in from around the world to partake of the richness. A true cultural enclave in Toronto! A fascinating history and a fascinating community awaits! This tour has been revised a few times to add more historic information to the walk, it has been revised once again for 2026 with new landmarks and stories attached. Should be a fascinating walk! This walk is for all fitness levels. The meeting place for our walking adventure is on the southwest corner of Greenwood Avenue and Gerrard Street East! This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person! \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the Ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Stop Prompting. Start Orchestrating. Java + Agents: Context, Tokens, Workflows
Stop Prompting. Start Orchestrating. Java + Agents: Context, Tokens, Workflows
Most of us are already using agentic coding in some form: Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or whatever new thing shipped this week. This talk is about the next layer: where the industry is heading as agents take on larger chunks of software work, and what Java developers need to learn to stay ahead. We’ll focus on context management, token strategy, orchestration, Codex-style workflows, cost optimization, and the practical judgment required to use these systems without losing the plot. The goal is to move beyond intro demos and into the real skill stack: knowing what to delegate, how to frame goals, how to keep agents grounded in larger codebases, how to get more value from fewer tokens, how to catch drift before it becomes damage, and how to verify output in a way that actually protects quality. This is also a career talk, because the tools are improving too quickly for casual awareness to be enough. The developers who stay valuable will not just be the ones who “use AI”; they’ll be the ones who can direct, constrain, evaluate, and compound with agentic systems. P.S. Due to popular demand, the slick Keynote animations are coming back. **About the venue** Free Times Cafe has bistro-style seating and a full food and drink menu. Please consider helping to support the venue by planning to have supper during the talk. **Speaker Bio** Victor Szoltysek is a seasoned consultant and technologist, currently at RAVL, where he helps clients eliminate the inefficiencies of undifferentiated heavy lifting and focus on building solutions that drive real business value for their customers. With a career spanning notable organizations like Accenture, Pivotal, and ThoughtWorks, as well as numerous startups, Victor brings a wealth of experience in cloud transformations, DevOps enablement, and Agile software development. A dedicated Java enthusiast with a sharp eye for cutting-edge technologies, Victor’s work frequently intersects with AWS, where he strives to streamline workflows and help teams leverage the cloud without unnecessary complexity. Recently, he’s also ventured into the dynamic world of artificial intelligence, exploring ways to make programming more engaging, efficient, and rewarding. Victor is known for his humorous and sometimes controversial presentation style, ensuring lively discussions and thought-provoking takeaways. His disdain for overly complex tech solutions drives his mission to simplify the way we build and deploy software. Whether he’s sharing insights about Java, AWS, or AI, Victor’s talks are as energizing and satisfying as your favorite cup of coffee. Don’t miss his unique blend of wit, wisdom, and deep technical expertise at our meetup!
Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together. Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions. If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming! Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event! Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event! **Discord**: We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event! https://discord.gg/xwjDdVSw3E **Event policy**: * We have 0 tolerance for harassment. * We don’t allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets. * The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do. * Please buy a drink, and tip the barista well.
UFOs Beyond ETs: Brent Raynes on John Keel and the Edge of Reality
UFOs Beyond ETs: Brent Raynes on John Keel and the Edge of Reality
This week, we are honoured to welcome longtime UFO researcher, author, investigator, and editor **Brent Raynes** to *The Starseeds and Lightworkers Collective* for a fascinating conversation on nearly six decades of UFO research, high strangeness, and the deeper mysteries that continue to challenge our understanding of reality. Brent entered the UFO field in January 1967, at only fourteen years old, after being inspired by the major UFO wave of 1966 and Frank Edwards’ influential book *Flying Saucers — Serious Business*. What began as a teenage fascination soon became a lifelong quest. Brent immersed himself in UFO literature, corresponded with witnesses and researchers across the country, founded his own UFO investigation group, and began publishing his own newsletter. By 1969, he was connected with Florida’s *Saucer Scoop* magazine and soon entered into correspondence with one of the most influential and unconventional voices in ufology: **John A. Keel**, author of *Operation Trojan Horse*, *The Eighth Tower*, and *The Mothman Prophecies*. In this episode, Brent will reflect on his decades of research into UFOs, anomalous phenomena, consciousness, synchronicity, and the strange borderlands where physical sightings, psychic impressions, folklore, symbolism, and personal experience seem to overlap. Drawing from his own field investigations, his correspondence with John Keel, and his book *John A. Keel: The Man, The Myths, and The Ongoing Mysteries*, Brent invites us to consider whether the UFO phenomenon may be far more complex than simple extraterrestrial visitation — and whether consciousness itself may be one of the most important keys to understanding the mystery. Brent is the author of *Visitors from Hidden Realms*, *On the Edge of Reality*, and *John A. Keel: The Man, The Myths, and The Ongoing Mysteries*. Since 1985, he has also served as editor of **Alternate Perceptions Magazine**, an online publication exploring UFOs, parapsychology, anomalous experiences, and the high-strangeness world of Keelian ufology. ### In this episode, we will explore: * Brent’s early entry into UFO research during the classic era of modern ufology * What UFO investigation looked like before the internet * His correspondence with John A. Keel and the influence of Keel’s “ultraterrestrial” ideas * Why UFO encounters often blur the line between physical reality, consciousness, symbolism, and the paranormal * The role of synchronicity, telepathy, altered states, archetypes, and high strangeness in anomalous experiences * How Brent’s book *John A. Keel: The Man, The Myths, and The Ongoing Mysteries* preserves and expands upon Keel’s legacy * Why today’s renewed interest in consciousness-based ufology may be bringing us back to questions researchers like Keel were asking decades ago After nearly sixty years in the field, Brent Raynes brings a rare perspective: grounded in history, rich in personal investigation, and open to the possibility that the UFO mystery is not asking us for easy answers — but inviting us to expand the very way we understand mind, reality, and the unknown.

AI Agents 101: How to Make ChatGPT Do Actual Work
AI Agents 101: How to Make ChatGPT Do Actual Work
Most people still use AI like a search box: type one question, get one answer, repeat. But the next step is AI agents: systems that can take a goal, break it into steps, use tools, remember context, and produce useful work for a human to review. In this beginner-friendly session, we’ll demystify what AI agents actually are — without hype or jargon. We’ll walk through practical examples of how agents can help with research, planning, writing, coding, operations, and personal productivity. We’ll cover: * What makes an AI “agent” instead of just a chatbot * How agents break tasks into steps * Where agents are genuinely useful today * Where they fail, hallucinate, or need human review * How to design simple AI workflows for your own work * A live demo of an AI agent-style workflow from start to finish No coding experience required. This is for anyone who wants to understand where AI tools are going and how to use them more effectively right now. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
