Design Talk:Â Beyond Designing for Others: Reclaiming Your Artistic Voice
Do you know the feeling of designing for clients but losing touch with your own creative voice?
Join our next Bloomfield Design Talk in Barcelona: Beyond Designing for Others: Reclaiming Your Artistic Voicewith Jun Ioneda.
On March 25, weâre welcoming Jun Ioneda, Brazilian graphic artist and one of todayâs most distinctive visual voices, for an honest and inspiring talk about what it really means to create on your own terms.
After years of delivering acclaimed work for his clients, Jun found himself asking a question many creatives know all too well: whatâs my own creative voice?
His work blends science fiction, fantasy, queer themes, and Japanese influences into a universe that is at once whimsical and somber, playful and deeply introspective. Based in Barcelona, he runs his studio BARCA and teaches Illustration and Art Direction at Aprender.Design and LABASAD.
Whether you are a designer, illustrator, photographer, animator, or any kind of creative navigating the tension between client work and personal expression, this talk will meet you where you are.
Come for the talk. Stay for the conversation.

Neoliberalism: How One Economic Vision Reshaped Society
Neoliberalism took shape in the shadow of Keynesian dominance in the mid-20th century. While governments across the Western world embraced active economic management and expanded welfare states, a small group of economists and philosophers kept a different vision alive. Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman, and the Mont Pelerin Society argued that central planning - even democratic planning - could threaten human freedom by concentrating power and swapping individual choice for bureaucratic judgment. Their critique was both economic and moral: markets werenât just efficient; they were closely tied to liberty. Friedman pushed back on the Keynesian story, arguing that government failures, not market failures, were often behind economic crises. For decades, these remained minority views - debated more in seminars than in parliament.
But in the 1970s, neoliberalism moved from the margins to center stage. Stagflation - high inflation combined with high unemployment - seemed impossible under Keynesian theory, yet there it was, and it made neoliberal ideas suddenly feel relevant (and even exciting) to politicians. Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan didnât just adopt new policies - they championed a new philosophy. Thatcherâs famous line that âthere is no such thing as society, only individual men and womenâ captured the mood shift. Both pursued privatization, deregulation, union-busting, and tax cuts for the wealthy. The stateâs role changed from economic manager to referee of market rules. Within a decade, neoliberal policies became the new norm - and theyâve helped reshape how societies think about everything from welfare systems to work.
This session will be led by Luca.

***
đ€ **Talks & Speakers**
* **Title: DevOps in Space: Lessons from Low Earth Orbit**
* **Speaker**: **David Jacovkis**
* **Duration**: 30-45 mins
* **About:** I started as a sysadmin when workloads ran on bare metal, and Devs were the enemies of Ops. The industry changed, and we changed with it, but at the end of the day, we're still the ones who receive an alert when things stop working.
* **Abstract**: Remember when you knew all your servers by name and deployed changes with a single SSH command? Now imagine doing that when your link comes in 10-minute windows every few hours, and bandwidth is a precious commodity measured in kbps. Welcome to DevOps in Space. At Sateliot, our Infrastructure & Software Engineering team works at the intersection of aerospace, telecommunications and software. We build modern distributed systems and then send them to an environment where normal expectations -low latency, immediate feedback, up-to-date systems- simply donât apply. In this talk Iâll give a high-level tour of the challenges that make space and telco different: intermittent and low-bandwidth connectivity, long feedback loops, constrained devices, and the cultural gaps between aerospace, telco and software teams. I'll also share some adaptations that allow us to apply some of the DevOps processes and tools that have become industry standards.

* **Title: Rats in my pipeline! The never-ending story of supply chain attacks**
* **Speaker**: Davinci Lisapaly
* **Duration**: 30-45 mins
* **About:** I'm a software engineer turned security engineer. I ensured product teams are shipping secure code without blocking them. Also, have a curse for incidents happening while walking my dog.
* **Abstract:** In the day and age of micro services, every 10 lines of code have their own pipeline. Not only is it a challenge from a reliability perspective, but also within the security domain. Most of the code we ship isn't even ours. How do we make sure that the code is safe? How do we make sure we can trust the dependencies we import? How do we prevent RATs from slipping into our production environments and stealing all our cheesy secrets and tokens? This presentation will explain, through real-world supply chain incidents, what these rats are and how we can detect and prevent them from even entering our pipelines.

Bunkers Barcelona Sunset Experience
The **Bunkers Barcelona Sunset Experience** is one of the most breathtaking free tours in the city. Located atop the TurĂł de la Rovira hill, the famous **Bunkers del Carmel** offer 360-degree panoramic views of Barcelona, a fascinating historical backdrop, and an unforgettable escape into both nature and history. Far from the crowded tourist hotsposts, this is the ultimate place to watch the **sunset in Barcelona**.
#### A Window into Barcelona's Past
The **Bunkers del Carmel** aren't just a viewpointâtheyâre a piece of living history. Built during the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s, these anti-aircraft bunkers formed part of Barcelonaâs defense system against aerial bombings. Their strategic location provided clear visibility of the entire city, maximizing protection.
After the war, the bunkers and surrounding hill became home to a shantytown community, where many families lived in humble, self-built houses until the 1990s. This complex past is part of what makes the site so compelling: it tells a layered story of war, resilience, survival, and urban transformation.
**What to Bring:**
* Comfortable walking shoes (for the hike)
* A camera or smartphone for photos
* Water and snacks or a picnic
* A jacket or sweater for cooler evenings
* A blanket or something to sit on

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. Weâll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from serverâdriven controls, and why theyâre becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether youâre maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, youâll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standardsâbased way.

Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
