AWS UG - Stop Guessing, Start Scaling | 09 June 2026
**NEXT EVENT - 09 JUNE 2026** **VENUE UPGRADE!** This Event will take place at Building [DUB12](https://maps.app.goo.gl/bkQrdwFLTiNaN5618), 1 Burlington Rd, Dublin, D04 RH96, Ireland Conf Rooms (Theatre) 01.503 & 01.505 **MEET!** **Luis Guirigay** Worldwide Head of Cloud Infrastructure Solutions at AWS **AND...** **Christian Melendez** Principal Specialist Solutions Architect & EMEA Lead, Compute at AWS Two senior AWS practitioners sharing hard-won production lessons, focused on real-world patterns - not just demos! Admission is FREE, Event includes Prize Draw, AWS Credits and Refreshments too. **AGENDA** **5:45 PM - REGISTRATION & NETWORKING** **6:00 PM - START** Ronan Guilfoyle, AWS Lead Solutions Architect Ronan Ó Caollaí, AWS User Group Dublin **6:10 PM - Luis Guirigay** **Stop Guessing, Start Testing: Performance Engineering on AWS** Over-provisioned to feel safe? Under-provisioned and hoping for the best? This session makes the case for performance testing as the feedback loop that closes the gap between architecture assumptions and production reality. We'll cover how to map load testing methodologies to specific reliability and cost risks on AWS, simulate diverse traffic patterns across workloads including AI inference and RAG pipelines, and build a repeatable framework for right-sizing with confidence, not gut feel. 6:40 PM - BREAK / NETWORKING 7:00 PM - **Christian Melendez** **Autoscaling Isn't Set-and-Forget: Tuning KEDA & Karpenter for Real Workloads.** You've deployed KEDA and Karpenter—now what? Most talks stop at "it scales." This one starts there. We'll dive into the advanced configurations, failure modes, and optimization patterns that separate demo clusters from production workloads. On the Karpenter side: Node Disruption Budgets to control voluntary disruptions, how to survive Spot interruptions gracefully, and bootstrap optimizations that shave minutes off node startup. On KEDA: scaling modifiers that combine multiple metrics into smarter decisions, cooldown tuning to prevent thrashing, and the shift from reactive scaling to proactive workload sizing. We'll show how EKS Auto Mode changes the equation—what you get out of the box, what you still need to configure, and how KEDA fits into a managed Karpenter environment. **8pm - ENDS** **SPEAK or SPONSOR!** Speaking/Sponsorship slots available! If you’re designing/building/testing/scaling something interesting on AWS we’d really love to hear from you. ++++++++++++++++++ **SAVE THE DATE! - 09 JUNE 2026** All your questions about AWS answered at a single event! ———— **Tickets are FREE but are Limited, so please RSVP Now.** **WANT TO SUPPORT?** AWS User Group events offer a great opportunity to align your brand with AWS thought leadership and to reach a highly influential audience of senior engineers, architects, founders and technical decision-makers that traditional channels cannot match. What shapes us?
What shapes us?
We are in the middle of a trilogy of topics that form a story. Our current series is around the theme of human flourishing. In April we discussed *beauty*. In May we looked at how the role ‘*home*’ plays in our well-being. To round off this *trilogy of human flourishing*, we will ask what roles do *nature and nurture* play in our lives? Have you ever pondered why you are the way you are? Are we born this way, or are we shaped by life? *Nature* refers to the genetic blueprint we inherit from our ancestors. *Nurture* refers to the social, cultural, and environmental factors that moulds our personalities, values, and skills. Are these two influences enemies or dancing partners? What limits, if any, exist in either one? How do they contribute to destiny or choice? Join us for facilitated conversations about Nature and Nurture this upcoming Tuesday, 9.June, 7:15pm, at Third Space Café Smithfield. Newcomers are welcome. **NOTE**: we ask for a **3 Euro donation** to cover costs. Payable on the night by coin or Revolut. Thank you. Socrates Cafe: *a space where ideas and dialogue can flourish*.

Abundance Federation Dublin — Platform & Data Infrastructure Working Session
Abundance Federation Dublin — Platform & Data Infrastructure Working Session
This is the second working session for the Abundance Federation Dublin group. After our February meetup we formed a team of four developers and four data scientists who've been working steadily on the platform and the first public AI dataset pilot. We're now looking to grow the team as the work expands. **Where we are** * The Kindness & volunteering platform is live but rough. Profiles, communities, messaging, tasks, quests and incentives all work, but it needs proper attention on both design and architecture before we push it toward a real MVP. Making it easy, coherent and genuinely fun to use matters as much as the engineering underneath — both have to land. * The first AI dataset pilot (Irish agricultural weed identification, with Transition Year students and adult volunteers) launches later this year. Tooling plans are written; the data team is working through them. The dataset side has real engineering work too — orchestration, pipelines, annotation tooling, and the interfaces volunteers will actually use — so the roles below apply across both teams. **Who we'd particularly like to meet** The work right now would especially benefit from: * UX designers or design-minded developers who care about making real software feel coherent, easy, and enjoyable to use * Python / Django developers who enjoy growing a real codebase * Backend developers comfortable with messy real-world systems * Database architects — we have decisions ahead that would benefit from experienced judgement * DevOps people who enjoy quietly making things reliable That said, this is a broad project and there's room for more than just those roles. Frontend developers, data scientists, technical writers, testers, community organisers, and people who just want to help in whatever way makes sense — all welcome. Come along, see what we're doing, and we'll figure out together where you might fit. People at any stage of their career are welcome. Experience is valuable, but so is persistence and follow-through — on a project like this, the people who keep showing up are the ones who shape what gets built. **On the night** * A short walkthrough of where the platform and data work are now (warts and all) * A clear-eyed look at the design and architectural questions we're working through * Small-group conversations to figure out what's most useful, what's feasible, and who might want to keep working on what * Pizza, soft drinks, and an optional pub afterwards for anyone up for it **Logistics** * Digital Hub, Dublin * Wednesday, June 10th, 7–9pm * Free, in-person, finishing on time at 9pm * RSVP through Meetup so we can plan numbers The wider Abundance Federation is a mission-locked civic initiative working on shared digital infrastructure to bring down the cost of essentials over the long term. The platform and the data work are the technical foundations of that — and they'll only be as good as the people who build them. Come along if you'd like to help shape what gets built.

reviving gardans, Growing community
reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic** This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there. On the day, we’ll: * Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep * Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally * **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices * Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food * Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea: * The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin * What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key. This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.

\> Note: If you have registered via luma\, please dont double register here\, Thanks\. **Talk: Decoding Open Source: How to Find Your First (Healthy) Community.** Not all open source projects are created equal. While open source projects may share the same license(s), the experience of contributing varies from project to project, from corporate-led open source projects, grass-roots python projects, to projects belonging to foundations such as PyTorch Foundation and Cloud Native Computing Foundation. We will pull back the curtain on the 'Open Source Spectrum' and the broad array of common roles within open source communities. Let’s look beyond the README.md, and investigate the social dynamics and how you can confidently navigate your way from an outsider to a contributor. Attendees will walk away understanding how to navigate across different open source projects, being able to identify opportunities for both code and non-technical contributions, and recognise various “green flags” that signal a healthy open source community, while making a lasting first impression. Target Audience: \- People looking to start contributing to open source projects\, and who want to learn some red/green flags on communities/projects\. \- People listed above would most likely be college students\, early career engineers\, or engineers who primarily work on Closed Source and are looking for more open source opportunities\. \- Experienced open source contributors can provide insightful feedback and stories during and after the presentation **Author:** **Dominik Kawka** [https://www.linkedin.com/in/dominik-kawka/] [Dominik Kawka is a Community Architect in Red Hat's Open Source Program Office. Battle of the personal agents
Battle of the personal agents
Join the Columbus AI community for a special event. **Battle of the Personal Agents** is your chance to see what people are actually building with AI agents and personal automation systems. Whether you’re running OpenClaw, Hermes, or a completely custom solution, bring your agent and show the community how it works. We’re interested in real-world implementations: the problems your agent solves, how you use it day-to-day, how it’s hosted and managed, how you built it, and why you’ve chosen to keep using it. Live demonstrations are encouraged, so be prepared to show your code, architecture, workflows, and your agent performing real tasks. This is less about polished presentations and more about sharing practical experience, comparing approaches, and learning from one another. If you’d like to present, please contact Chris Slee (via meetup) before the event so we can allocate enough time for everyone’s demonstrations. Come ready to show what you’ve built, discover what others are doing, and maybe find a few ideas worth taking home. Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
