MEANINGFUL CONVERSTION NIGHT
Most of our conversations stay safe.
Polite. Functional. Predictable.
Meaningful Conversations Night is an invitation to step just a little beyond that â into conversations that feel more alive, real, and human.
Not through oversharing or forcing depth, but by learning how to work with whatâs already happening in the moment.
This evening is inspired by Authentic Relating practices and conscious communication, and is designed to help people connect in ways that feel grounded, natural, and genuine.
What this event offers:
This is a 2-hour guided experience, not a lecture or networking event.
It includes:
⢠A simple, accessible introduction to meaningful conversation skills
⢠Structured, consent-based conversational exercises
⢠One-on-one and small group dialogues
⢠Time to reflect and integrate between rounds
The focus is on direct experience, not theory.
You wonât be asked to perform, fix yourself, or be âgood at sharing.â
Youâll be guided step by step.
What are âmeaningful conversationsâ?
Meaningful conversations are not about:
⢠Asking better questions
⢠Being more interesting
⢠Sharing your life story
They are about:
⢠Noticing whatâs alive right now
⢠Speaking honestly without oversharing
⢠Listening in a way that creates real contact
⢠Staying present with yourself while connecting with others
The practices explore things like:
⢠Naming what youâre experiencing in the moment
⢠Expressing curiosity, appreciation, or uncertainty
⢠Navigating awkwardness with more ease
⢠Letting conversations deepen naturally, without force
All interactions are opt-in, respectful, and well-contained.
Who this night is for:
⢠People craving deeper connection beyond small talk
⢠Those interested in Authentic Relating or conscious communication
⢠Introverts and extroverts alike
⢠Anyone who enjoys reflection, presence, and real dialogue
⢠People who want to feel more relaxed and confident in conversations
No previous experience is required.
You can participate at your own pace â listening is always welcome.
Important practical notes:
⢠Please arrive on time so we can begin together
⢠This is a guided, structured space (not free mingling)
⢠Recommended to buy tickets in advance
The space is held with care, clarity, and consent.
About the facilitator:
The evening is facilitated by William Gan, a coach and facilitator trained in Authentic Relating, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and conscious communication.
His work focuses on helping people:
⢠Feel more at ease being themselves
⢠Communicate with clarity and warmth
⢠Build deeper relationships without self-betrayal or pressure
He holds spaces that are grounded, welcoming, and practical â
making it easier to relax and meet others as you are.

Join us for an open and friendly evening (in English & free of charge) dedicated to the Modern Communities, where we will brainstorm together what we want to discuss from this broad topic - questions to help you get inspired:
What makes communitie?
How communities have changed through out time?
Are our support systems working? Are they enough?
Afterwards, participants will form small groups to explore the questions like (in an Open Spaceâstyle format, where participants choose topics themselves)
18:00 â Doors open
18:15 â Introduction & topic selection
18:40 - We start discussions
19:40 - Closing session (sharing activities)
20:00 - Networking & Connect

A welcoming space for newcomers and regulars alike
Be slightly pushed to socialise
Open, participant-led small-group discussions on diverse perspectives

Not a lecture, not a debate club, and definitely not intimidating!
Feel free to bring some snacks to share!
Friendly dogs are welcome!
If you are a regular that appreciate us and can help, or a newcomer who enjoyed the evening, and wants to help, we have recently set a patreon page where you can support us!

Enframing the Present: Reading Heidegger on Technology
Weâre launching the Critical Futures Collective with Martin Heideggerâs *The Question Concerning Technology* â a short but profoundly influential essay that asks what technology *really* is beyond devices, apps, and machines. Heidegger argues that modern technology doesnât just change the world around us; it changes how the world is revealed to us, and in turn how we understand ourselves.
Itâs a dense, provocative text that lays the groundwork for thinking about subjectivity, acceleration, and the pressures of the digital age â exactly the terrain this group will explore. Weâll approach it through close reading and shared inquiry, working passage by passage rather than offering summaries or lectures.
The essay is compact enough to discuss in one meeting, but rich enough to merit a second. If the conversation demands it, weâll happily continue in a follow-up session.
SOCIAL PARTY 𼳠NIGHT IN PRAGUE
Welcome!

Every Saturday at 7:30 PM, locals, travelers, and expats (mostly in their 20sâ30s) gather for fun and language exchange.
Whether you're fluent or just learning "hello," youâre invited. Itâs casual, cool, and genuinely Prague.
Paradise Lost: Book II + III
For our second meeting, we continue our slow, attentive reading of Paradise Lost by turning to Books II and III, where Milton widens the scope of the poem and deepens its moral stakes.
Book II takes us into the council of fallen angels, where debate, persuasion, and self-justification replace the thunder of the opening fall. Here, Milton explores rhetoric, leadership, and the subtle ways freedom and ambition can distort judgment. We follow Satan beyond the assembly, across the abyss, toward the newly created world, watching resolve harden into purpose.
Book III shifts dramatically in perspective. We move from Hell to Heaven, from darkness to light, and encounter the poemâs vision of divine knowledge, foreknowledge, and human freedom. Milton asks some of his most difficult questions here: Can freedom exist alongside omniscience? What does responsibility mean in a universe where outcomes are foreseen but not compelled? How does love operate when disobedience is already known?
Please read Books II and III in advance. No other preparation is required. Bring your questions, uncertainties, and reflections. This seminar is not about arriving at answers, but about staying with the tension Milton so deliberately creates, together, and seeing how it speaks to us as modern readers.
International CafĂŠ Philo: Open philosophical discussion for everybody
Open philosophical discussion, thinking together about a topic in a philosophical way. The topic will be chosen by the participants at the beginning of the event. No application, no entrance fee. (But as we are meeting in a normal coffee shop, you have to order at least a cup of coffee or tea.)
Experience the joy of real dialogue with other people about the really important topics of life! Follow the white rabbit into the wonderland of philosophy...

Columbus Futurists public forum: 1/15: "What ifs? for 2026"
Happy New Year Colleagues,
The next Columbus Futurists public forum will be **Thursday January 15 at 12:00 pm noon** (eastern) [https://osu.zoom.us/j/93451873651?pwd=RXIyZ2t5RjRqRG02UGQ1aEFVQ1NFZz09](https://osu.zoom.us/j/93451873651?pwd=RXIyZ2t5RjRqRG02UGQ1aEFVQ1NFZz09) Please come prepared to offer your **"What if?" questions for 2026**. (I will offer seven to begin our conversation.)
I also would like to announce the publication of my latest book: *[Anticipatory Biographies: Personal Histories of the Future](https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-032-08912-0)*, the tenth volume in the âAnticipation Scienceâ series. Grounded in design fiction, futures research, anticipation science, and scenario writing, *Anticipatory Biographies* envisions how the world will be reshaped by artificial intelligence, technological automation, climate change, political disintegration, and the decline of higher education. This work of creative non-fiction bridges literary and scholarly forms, blending biography and design fiction with research-based insights to offer a narrative-based method for exploring futures. Ed Finn, Director of the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University says: âIn this book **David Staley has invented a delightful new genre: the future biography.** He invites us to step into gritty, thrilling, and inspiring futures elbow-to-elbow with the characters living those stories. *Anticipatory Biographies* beautifully synthesizes Staleyâs training as a historian, his expertise as a futurist, and his desire to ignite the imagination of his readers.â
Hope you'll be able to read it, and hope to see you all on the 15th.

Curating Confidence: Crafting Your Vision for the Year Ahead
Step into 2026 with intention, clarity, and a creative practice designed to help you see yourself more clearly. In this special Confidence Lab session, weâll explore confidence as something you can curate - through the choices you make, the qualities you amplify, and the story you choose to step into.
Weâll start with a short guided reflection to surface the traits, habits, and energies you want to nurture in the coming year. Then, using collage materials selected specifically for this workshop, youâll translate those insights into a visual composition that represents the version of yourself youâre ready to grow toward.
This isnât about resolutions or perfection. Itâs about crafting a grounded, imaginative vision of your next chapter - one that feels honest, energizing, and fully yours.
All materials are provided. Just bring yourself (and a friend) and a willingness to explore what confidence can look like for you in 2026.
**Featured Partner: Columbus Collage Collective**
The Columbus Collage Collective was started in August of 2023 by Emily Morgan (aka Lovely But Dead) and Douglas Cuckler (aka Wonder Doug) as a place for collage enthusiasts to gather and create art together. The collective has since become a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to hold free or low-cost collage events across central Ohio. The CCC welcomes all artists of all backgrounds and skill levels and encourages folks to take this time to step away from everyday existence and create art with people who share a love for this dynamic art form.
All materialsâmagazines, scissors, craft knives, glue, paper, cardboard, and moreâare provided, so there's no need to bring anything at all (though you're welcome to bring a friend or a favorite tool if you'd like!). We also encourage folks to take home magazines and materials from our events to support continued creativity!

One for the Ages: Columbus Museum of Art / GemĂźt Biergarten
**History**
The Columbus Museum of Art traces its roots to 1878, when it was founded as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, becoming the first art museum chartered in Ohio. A group of civic leaders established it to bring touring exhibitions and build a public collection. In 1887, it merged with the Columbus Art School (now CCAD) fostering a long partnership in arts education. Initially without a permanent home, the museum operated from temporary spaces until 1919, when art patron Francis C. Sessions deeded his Victorian mansion on East Broad Street to house the growing institution.
As collections expanded in the early 20th century, the need for a dedicated building became clear. The Sessions mansion was demolished, and a new Italian Renaissance Revival structure was erected on the same site, opening to the public in 1931. This elegant building, with its grand steps and arches, remains the museum's core today and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Key early acquisitions, like the Ferdinand Howald Collection of modernist works, helped establish its focus on American and European art.
In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the museum evolved significantly. It added the Ross Wing in 1974 for exhibitions and renamed itself the Columbus Museum of Art in 1978 during its centennial. A major renovation and expansion completed in 2015 introduced the Margaret M. Walter Wing and Center for Creativity, emphasizing interactive experiences. In 2018, the donation of the Pizzuti Collection and its Short North building expanded the museum's reach into contemporary art, solidifying its role as a dynamic cultural hub.
The Columbus Museum of Art boasts a strong collection of late 19th- and early 20th-century European modern art, featuring well-known masters like Claude Monet, whose Impressionist landscapes capture light and atmosphere in ways familiar to many. Visitors can also encounter works by Henri Matisse, renowned for his bold use of color, and Edgar Degas, famous for his graceful depictions of ballerinas and everyday scenes. The museum's early Cubist holdings include pieces by Pablo Picasso, offering glimpses into his revolutionary fragmented style that reshaped modern art.
On the American side, the collection highlights iconic figures such as Edward Hopper, whose evocative paintings of urban solitude and quiet American life are widely recognized, and Norman Rockwell, celebrated for his heartfelt illustrations of everyday Americana that have appeared on countless magazine covers. These accessible works by household-name artists provide an inviting entry point for those new to art museums, blending European innovation with distinctly American storytelling.
**Summary**
For this event, we will tour the [Columbus Museum of Art](https://www.columbusmuseum.org/), which is always free on Sundays. Afterward, we will head over to the nearby, highly-rated, and popular GemĂźt Biergarten for drinks and food.
Columbus's art museum is not large, and we won't need to rush through in order to see everything. However, it's a little windy (with a long "i") and maze-like in spots, and if you've never gone through it before, it can be a little confusing at first.
**Tickets and Pricing**
The Museum is free on Sundays.
**Parking**
The short answer here is that you can park for free (in the Safe Auto lot) when you visit the Museum on weekends.
The longer answer is that the Museum has a dedicated parking lot, whose entrance and exit are on E Gay St, just north of Broad St. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Columbus+Museum+Of+Art+Parking/@39.9648853,-82.9882364,18.67z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x883888d20177f111:0xbf595a71d9d8c8c5!2sColumbus+Museum+of+Art!8m2!3d39.9642074!4d-82.9878972!16zL20vMDM0Z3F6!3m5!1s0x883888d21f05e00f:0xb72a56e4ac2d4fba!8m2!3d39.9651763!4d-82.9881746!16s%2Fg%2F11f3pdx3tx?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
This parking has normally been $7, unless you buy something either in the Museum's gift shop or cafĂŠ, in which case it's $5 (you have to bring your receipt to the Museum's front desk to get this discount).
However, the Museum is currently in the process of upgrading their parking lot's intercom (or some such), and until such time as this is completed, parking in this lot is free. Once this upgrade is complete, though, the charge is likely to increase from $7 to $10.
This upgrade is supposed to be done by the time we run this event, but given how these things work, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it's not complete by then. You'll know the lot is free if the gate arms to both the entrance and exit are fixed in a raised position when you arrive.
However, there's a large parking lot for Safe Auto on the other side of N Washington Ave, between Boone St and Hutton Pl. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B057'54.4%22N+82%C2%B059'13.9%22W/@39.9651069,-82.9884087,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d39.965105!4d-82.987191?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
Visitors to the Museum may always park for free in this lot on weekends.
**The End of History**
After completing our dissertation in [Art Appreciation](https://www.facebook.com/groups/879880336006462/posts/1734229683904852/), we'll head over to the highly-rated [GemĂźt Biergarten](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/) for [drinks and food](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/#full-menu). The brewery is located in [Olde Towne East](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Olde+Towne+East,+Columbus,+OH/@39.9600896,-82.9935095,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c29b9d98cb:0x55fc96810facc832!8m2!3d39.9579938!4d-82.9761254!16s%2Fm%2F026vlz4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D), and its actual address is [734 Oak St, Columbus, OH 43205](https://www.google.com/maps/place/734+Oak+St,+Columbus,+OH+43205/@39.9633755,-82.9808618,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c53426d289:0x4aec638d8a5195d4!8m2!3d39.9633755!4d-82.9808618!16s%2Fg%2F11c4wy250w?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
GemĂźt Biergarten has a free parking lot that isn't small but also isn't huge. Street parking, however, is always free across Columbus on [Sundays and holidays](https://www.columbus.gov/files/sharedassets/city/v/1/public-service/right-of-way-permit/on-street-parking-out-of-service-policy-and-procedure-final-8.15.2022-signed.pdf), so I think we'll be okay with parking.
The bigger issue may be the weather. The brewery has a good-sized outdoor patio that is covered and heated in the winter. However, that doesn't mean this patio will be warm.
The inside of the brewery is "okay-sized," but again, the brewery is popular and by the time we get there, we may have no choice but to sit outside. If it's cold, I can and will ask them to fire up some of their additional outdoor heaters, which I think should be enough, but please bring something to keep you warm just in case we end up outside.
Finally, while food at the Biergarten can be a little overpriced, in my experience it is excellent, and you are likely to enjoy whatever you get. We should be there by 1:00 if you can't make the Museum and just want to meet us for drinks.

Knowing ourselves and understanding our abilities is the first step toward wielding our gifts with control and accuracy.
In subsequent classes we will verify and hone our talents with activities and discussion. These are hands-on workshops and participation is expected.
The goal of our series will be to develop expertise in areas of particular interest such as mediumship, channeling, divination, healing and, etc.. Our ultimate directions will be determined by class members as we evolve.
I look forward to sharing and discovering with you. - Cynthia
