Meaningful Afterwork: "Why Not Try Peace For A While?"
Meaningful Afterwork: "Why Not Try Peace For A While?"
Join us for a Meaningful Afterwork exploring how we can become true practitioners of peace in our immediate environment! **🕊️ Meaningful Afterwork: "Why Not Try Peace For A While?"** Dearest participants, We would love to invite you to our upcoming ***Meaningful Afterwork*** on **Thursday, 19 February**, hosted at the **Bahá’í Centre** in **Luxembourg City**. The Theme: **"Why Not Try Peace For A While?"** *"2nd August. Germany has declared war on Russia. — Swimming lessons in the afternoon."* This was Franz Kafka’s diary entry in 1914, the day the First World War began. It is a poignant reminder of two things: first, that our individual lives continue even amidst global upheaval; and second, that while conflict may have hindered humanity’s journey toward maturity in the past, it by no means determines our future. Like Kafka, we do not lose our agency during dark or trying times. At this ***Meaningful Afterwork***, we want to explore the lights in our everyday lives that illumine the path to peace. How can we cultivate **tranquility and lightness within ourselves** and **radiate it into the world around us**? And even more importantly, how can we become **true practitioners of peace in our immediate environments**? We will explore these questions through a series of short, thought-provoking excerpts from the **Bahá’í Writings**. The Details: * 📅 **Date:** Thursday, 19th January * ⏰ **Time:** 6:30pm * 📍 **Location:** 17, Allée Léopold Goebel, Luxembourg City In case you have further questions, feel free to contact us via email ([meaningfulafterwork@gmail.com](https://meaningfulafterwork@gmail.com "https://meaningfulafterwork@gmail.com")). Warmly, Your Meaningful Afterwork Team P.S.: The Meaningful Afterworks are organized for young professionals, participants should therefore ideally be between 25 and 40 years old – thank you for your understanding 🙏🏼 P.P.S.: As spaces for the upcoming Meaningful Afterwork will be limited, please sign up via the link below to let us know if you’re coming, if you’re bringing a colleague, and what treats you might be bringing for the potluck: 🔗 [https://forms.gle/UFf37zNWramGJndk7 ](https://forms.gle/UFf37zNWramGJndk7)

Shut Up & Write!® at Cocottes Chimay
Shut Up & Write!® at Cocottes Chimay
Join us for some focused writing time. All writers and all experience levels are welcome and don’t worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area. When you show up, say hello to everyone, grab a drink, and get your writing tools ready. Once you’re all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session. Afterward, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! **A note about the format** We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing. For our full event schedule, visit [https://shutupwrite.com](https://www.shutupwrite.com). **Other Important Details:** 1\. Until further notice\, this event will take place on the 1st floor of Cocottes Chimay in the city centre\. I’ve been there several times in the morning\, and it’s never busy\. 2\. I usually sit on the left\-hand side at the top of the stairs\, and you’ll be able to find me by the Shut Up and Write print on the table\. I will\, however\, always let you know in the chat below where I am\. 3\. First time? Don’t be afraid\! Everyone is welcome\! 🙂 4\. Anyone who would like to can join me for lunch or a drink at the venue\. 5\. I will bring an extension cable for anyone who needs to power up their laptop\. If the timing of this event doesn’t suit your schedule, you could always join one of the other writing groups in Luxembourg. I currently know of only one: [Writers Who Talk](https://www.facebook.com/groups/345612909170599/)

Watcha reading?
Watcha reading?
Wondering what to read next? You wish to explore "Book X," but somehow "Book Y" catches your attention and holds your time hostage in pages. "Book Z," on the other hand, is the one you think you should read to *improve* your life, because only then does busy reading become busy living, and progress is assured! But what about when life is good enough to read for pleasure? Or bad enough to escape through fantasy? Do the books we choose shape our character? Or do they simply reveal what we already are? Too philosophical, I know… Ralph Waldo Emerson — whom I’ve never read — said: “I cannot remember the books I have read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” This discussion aims to explore the reading choices we make and the connecting power of books: how they link people to ideas, ideas to ideas, and most importantly, people to people... Let’s meet and talk books.

February book selection: Kindred by Octavia Butler
February book selection: Kindred by Octavia Butler
When American author Octavia Butler died in 2006, she was only 58. Even at her premature death, she was renowned as a science fiction and speculative fiction author, winning both Hugo and Nebula awards and the MacArthur fellowship (aka the MacArthur Genius Grant). Published in 1979, "Kindred" remains her most well-known and best-selling work. A story based on time travel and modeled on slave narratives, "Kindred" explores the dynamics and dilemmas of American antebellum slavery from the sensibility of a late 20th-century Black woman who is aware of its legacy in contemporary American society. *Goodreads summary* Dana, a modern Black woman, is celebrating her 26th birthday with her new husband when she is snatched abruptly from her home in California and transported to the antebellum South. Rufus, the white son of a plantation owner, is drowning, and Dana has been summoned to save him. Dana is drawn back repeatedly through time to the slave quarters, and each time the stay grows longer, more arduous, and more dangerous until it is uncertain whether or not Dana’s life will end, long before it has a chance to begin.

Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge. **Abstract** *Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation* Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification. You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. We’ll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, we’ll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written. This talk will cover: --What spec-driven development is (and what it isn’t) --How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows --Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development --Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence Whether you’re building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects. **YouTube Link** TBA
