Truer than the truth: how to use figurative language
Truer than the truth: how to use figurative language
This is a paid event, and the registration via Wordcraft's website[ is obligatory.](https://www.wordcraft-collective.eu/courses/truer-than-the-truth%3A-how-to-use-figurative-language) At its simplest, figurative language is a way of saying that one thing is (like) another thing. It is saying that X is Y by comparing them both to Z. By using figures like metaphors, similes and even personification, we express an idea with playfulness and wonder, while at the same time attempting to get as close as possible to its core truth. 📅Date and time: 13 June, 11:00-13:00 CET 📍Venue: Pianofabriek, Rue du Fort 35, 1060 Saint-Gilles 💰Price: €25 Eur (non-member) €20 Eur (Member). This workshop is intended not just for poets and writers, but anyone who would like to test and widen their linguistic horizons. Nowadays, when the quantity of written content is overproduced, but its quality is diminished, the workshop provides an opportunity to approach one's expression with freshness and innate curiosity. We will look at how different figures appear in poetry, prose and everyday language, engage in interactive exercises and immediately apply the newly-acquired skills in free writing. The workshop is aimed at native and near-native English speakers. Climb & Chill 🧗‍♂️☕️

What's up Friends! 👋

Ready for some bouldering fun? Boulder-what? 🤔 It’s climbing (FR: escalade, le bloc) up to 4.5m high without ropes—and in my case, without much hope! 😂✨ It’s a super fun indoor activity, but be warned: it does require a certain level of physical fitness and/or skill. Most importantly, though, it requires awesome company—which we’ve got! 😎

The Idea: 📍 Meeting Point: For those arriving at 17:00, we’ll meet at the cafeteria (next to the billiards table). Feel free to start earlier or later—just drop me a message or write in the group chat so we can meet up. 💪 Stay & climb as long as you want - venue closes at midnight! 🥤 Recharge: If you’ve had enough climbing for the day (we usually do this after 2 hours of climbing), we may head back to the cafeteria (or to the rooftop if it's sunny🌤️) for snacks, drinks & games. Cafeteria closes at 22:00. Where: 📍Arkose: (Brussels Canal) Rue Willy de Bruyn Straat 52, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgique 🔗 https://arkose.com/

Fees: 🤑Entry fee without shoes: * 18 eur (first-timers 10€ with online promo activated) * reduced rates: students, minors, job seekers, firefighters, military (proof required) 👟 Shoe Rental: 5€ (if you don’t have your own) 🎫 10-session pass: 135€

Good to Know: ✍️ First-timers need to create an account (takes 5min) - do it in advance and pay online to pay less and avoid wasting time onsite 💦 Hydration is key! Bring a water bottle. 🔐 Lockers available, but bring your own padlock. 🚿 Changing rooms & showers on-site. 👕 Wear comfy sports clothes—it gets intense! 🧴 Only liquid magnesium is allowed (for grip) - in reality most people use powder🤫 👟 Thinking of going regularly? Bouldering shoes are a great investment! (Decathlon: ~45-65€ per pair.)

⚠️ Safety First! Bouldering is fun, but safety comes first! Stay alert, know your limits, and don’t take unnecessary risks. Enjoy responsibly! 💪

📢 Further details may be shared via the group chat or via DM 💬. Make sure to check your messages 👀 at least on the day before the event to avoid missing critical 🙄 announcements. 🐈‍⬛ The Friends Code:
👉Respect and positive vibes, if not 💥🥊
👉Can’t make it? Cancel or drop a message in the chat - helps running things smoothly! 👉 Don't show up if you are on the waiting list or show up at your own risk.

See you at the walls folks😉
From capoeira into contact dance
From capoeira into contact dance
In this workshop, we will explore partnering exercises inspired by Capoeira Angola and weight-sharing practices from contact improvisation. We work with rhythm, balance, and responsiveness to build trust and clear physical dialogue. We'll add a fresh layer to Contact Improvisation practice by bringing in **Capoeira Angola kicks**—not as strikes, but as new ways to enter weight-sharing, redirect momentum, and expand how you communicate through movement. Expect clear tools, playful exchanges, and a few “oh wow that worked” moments. These workshops are open to anyone interested in exploring movement as a way to deepen body awareness, improve mobility and enjoy dancing in connection with others. No prior experience in capoeira or contact improv required. **You don't need to know capoeira or contact improv to join!** Programme: 12:50 – Doors open 13:00 -Part **1** 14:20 – Break and refreshments 14:40 -Part **2** More information: https://fusion-circus.com/events/capoeira-inspired-april/

It only opened last year. 😃 It's right at Place Poelaert. This is their Instagram account. It's still very new. https://www.instagram.com/schmet.bxl/ 1. The **prime time** of the event is **10:30 - 12:30**. That's when most people will be there. 2. When you enter the place, you will see a long table that is set up for the event. 3. If you intend **to join past 12:00** (high noon), then there is no need to register. It happens very often. * If you have any questions then, message me. *** **A MESSAGE FOR NEWCOMERS:** *In the three years of hosting this coffee group, I have met many people who struggle with anxieties when coming to an event for the first time. Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.* *Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.* *I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.* *In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.* **THANK YOU AND SEE YOU ALL ON SATURDAY!** **LOCATION:** Schmet 2 Rue des Quatre Bras Brussels 1000 (right at Place Poelaert)

Deep Conversation&Drinks Meetup [at Peperfabriek] -- Topic Chosen in Session
How do we connect to people? What is so great about being different? Is love selfless? Should we be dreamers or realists? What values are we losing? When are we at our best? Does childhood ever end? Is morality a matter of convenience? What makes a person beautiful? Such questions, and many more, await you Saturday at our beloved Peperfabriek. After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations :-).

The Language Café 🌍 (FR) ☕️🥐
The Language Café 🌍 (FR) ☕️🥐
Salut toi! 😊 🚦 Liste d’attente? 😉
2nd Photolanguage Gathering (Walk and Talk)
2nd Photolanguage Gathering (Walk and Talk)
If you're tired of small talk, tired of discussing hobbies and politics, and if there's something telling you there's more to share and more to observe... Please join us :) For our second event, we’re going to make the most out of this beautiful weather (again) and gather in the heart of the Forêt de Soignes. We’ll meet at the Quatre Bras (Vier Armen) tram stop and walk together towards a bench in the forest (about a 45-minute walk). The walk is part of the experience, a chance to slow down, breathe, and let the forest help us unwind before we begin. Once we arrive, we’ll start the meeting. I’ll share a selection of photos with the group (and you’re very welcome to bring one of your own). The photos are simply there to gently spark memories and stories that may be waiting to be expressed. From there, we’ll move into a session of speaking and active listening, with no interruptions. I’ll explain the structure more clearly once we’re together. For now, here are the main things to keep in mind: ● Please listen to others without interrupting. Let’s create a space that feels kind and respectful. ● Come with an open heart and a willingness to share something you’ve experienced, even if you’re not quite sure what that is yet (that’s what the photos are for). Your story doesn’t have to be deep, this isn’t a storytelling performance. What matters most is that you’re genuine. And if something deep wants to be shared, that’s very welcome too. ● If at any point you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to speak. There’s no pressure. ● You’re welcome to bring something to drink, but no food please, this helps us keep a calm and attentive atmosphere while others are sharing. ● Please try to be on time, as we won’t be able to wait once we start walking. If you’re running late, just send me a message via Meetup and I’ll share the exact location of the bench so you can join us there. ● This is our first event, so we’re doing our best to keep it organized while still allowing space for spontaneity. Looking forward to sharing this first gathering with you. Hopefully, this will be a time of real human connection! I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have :)
