Rather than promoting a particular belief system, the group emphasizes **shared reading, thoughtful reflection, and respectful dialogue**. Participants are welcome to engage at their own pace—whether through listening, contemplation, or open discussion. While there is **no requirement to commit before attending**, *the intention is to gradually build a group of participants who are interested in returning regularly and engaging sincerely with the material* and the group process. Is There More to Life Than This? An Introduction to The Search For More
Is There More to Life Than This? An Introduction to The Search For More
### An Introduction to The Search For More Many people move through life doing what is expected of them: working, managing responsibilities, handling obligations, and trying to make the best of things. Yet some people carry a quiet feeling that there must be more to human life than what they have experienced so far. This introductory event is for those people. **The Search For More** is a community for people who wish to explore human development, consciousness, meaning, purpose, personal growth, ancient wisdom traditions, philosophy, and the deeper questions of life. This first meeting will introduce the purpose of the group, the kind of subjects we will explore, and the approach we will take. The emphasis is not on telling people what to believe. The emphasis is on exploration, direct experience, discussion, and the possibility of deeper understanding. During this first meeting, we will also do a few simple experiential practicals together related to perception and elevated sensory experience. These are not complicated, and no prior experience is required. They are intended to give participants a direct sense of the difference between simply hearing about an idea and exploring it through experience. We are not affiliated with any religion, political movement, commercial self-help organization, or belief system. Participants are encouraged to think for themselves, question assumptions, and draw their own conclusions. The purpose is exploration, not conversion. ### This event may be for you if: * You feel there may be more to life than what is commonly understood. * You are interested in personal development, consciousness, meaning, and human potential. * You are open to thoughtful discussion without being asked to adopt a belief system. * You are interested in direct experience, not just interesting information. * You believe human beings are meant to learn, grow, and help each other. ### What to expect: Holden will give a short introduction to the purpose of the group, followed by a presentation, a few practical exercises, and open discussion. The practical exercises will be simple, respectful, and focused on perception, attention, and sensory awareness. The meeting will be welcoming, thoughtful, and exploratory. No prior knowledge is required. You do not need to belong to any tradition, religion, or philosophy. You only need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to consider that human life may contain more depth than we normally experience. ### About Holden Holden has spent more than 30 years researching these subjects, has traveled to 46 countries in search of a deeper understanding of life and elevated living, and has delivered more than 500 presentations and workshops. His approach is based on a simple idea: People need elevated experiences, not just interesting information. If this speaks to you, you are welcome to attend.

[In-person] Curiosity Café — Grief
[In-person] Curiosity Café — Grief
Grief is often labelled as a negative emotion to be avoided, if at all possible. But many identify grief as a marker of love — a continuation or expression of it. And insofar as we experience loss, grief seems like the most fitting response. This suggests that there is something good and important about grief, even if it is painful. But what *is* grief? When we grieve, whom or what are we actually grieving? And what can our experiences of grief tell us about the value of whom or what we are grieving (or, indeed, the value of grief itself)? Together, we’ll consider what role grief can and should play in our lives, beginning with our lived experiences and ending with an investigation of grief over time. In addition to the questions above, our exploration will be guided by the following: * Whom or what can we grieve? * What are the similarities and differences between different kinds of grief? * Despite being painful, why is grief important? * Is love worth the pain of grief? Where do you draw the line? * In your life, what has helped you to grieve? What has hindered your grief? * What makes grief more or less possible in different circumstances, with access to different resources? Why might it be important for us to make more space for grief? * How can grief isolate us? How can it bring us together? * Does grief diminish over time, or do we grow around it? * Is the point of grief to get over a loss? Can you ever complete grief? * Why does grief diminish in cases where the person, relationship, or thing continues to matter to us? Join co-moderators Alexandra Gustafson and Adrian Ma on Tuesday, June 30th, to explore these questions and more. (This is a discussion-based event intended to provide a space to collaboratively explore the concept of grief, such that we may gain a better understanding of what it is and of our own experiences of it. However, this event is *not* intended to be a place for engaging *in* the process of grieving: although of course this might happen (and it’s okay if it does), please note that the moderators have philosophical and event-leading expertise, but aren’t equipped to provide therapeutic support/emotional counselling.) **Space is limited!** **Please obtain a “Pay-What-You-Can” ticket from Curiosity Café at [this link (click here)](https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/curiosity-cafe-revisited-grief-tickets-1992389203742) to attend this event. You need a ticket to be admitted.** See the above link for more info about tickets and other options including a limited number of free tickets. Come and hang out with us, grab food, and read through our handout from 6-6:30pm. Our structured discussion will run from 6:30-8:30pm with a 10 minute break in the middle. Hope to see you there! ***__________________________________________________________________________*** This event is brought to you by [Being and Becoming](https://beingnbecoming.org/), a Toronto based non-profit. We aim to create community around exploring everyday concepts and experiences so that we may live more intentional, thoughtful, and meaningful lives. We use philosophy as a tool with which we can come to a richer understanding of the world around us. By offering activities, spaces, and other opportunities for conversation and co-exploration, we hope to enable the meeting and fusion of individuals and their ideas. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background: indeed, we believe the journey is best undertaken alongside explorers from a variety of disciplines, cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. Find out more about Being and Becoming [here](https://beingnbecoming.org/). About the Curiosity Café Series: For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to join us at our Curiosity Cafés and are wondering what they’re all about: every two weeks, we invite members of our community to come out to the Madison Avenue Pub to engage in a collaborative exploration of our chosen topic. Through these events, we aim to build our community of people who like to think deeply about life’s big questions, and provide each other with some philosophical tools to dig deeper into whatever it is we are most curious about.

The Way of the Aspirant ~ Limbs 1-4 of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
**When:** Tuesdays, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST (Toronto Time) **Start date:** Tuesday, Jun 23, 2026 **Where:** 792 Glencairn Ave., Toronto **Attend online via Zoom:**[ https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89671983431?pwd=hoYVrQG1EF4ibvIieyTnavmXxWcy5h.1](https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89671983431?pwd=hoYVrQG1EF4ibvIieyTnavmXxWcy5h.1) **Primary text:** *Light of the Soul* by Alice Bailey, with supporting perspectives from Madame Blavatsky's Theosophical framework and Lama Govinda's multidimensional consciousness \*\*Free online PDF: \*\*[http://www.mysticknowledge.org/Light_of_the_Soul_-_Alice_Bailey.pdf](http://www.mysticknowledge.org/Light_of_the_Soul_-_Alice_Bailey.pdf) (Prior reading is not required.) **About the series:** The first four limbs of yoga are presented not merely as ethical rules or techniques, but as a practical science of consciousness refinement. * Experience → Distortion → Transformation: Through the dimensions of time and space, experience generates distortions — and distortions generate opportunities for transformation. The work of the aspirant is to consciously refine these experiences into enduring impressions of beauty and love. * What is an impression? The essence of experience that remains after the physical event, emotional reaction, and personal attachment have passed away — *experience without attachment.* * The 12-module arc: Yama, Niyama, Asana, and Pranayama progressively prepare the way for soul contact through purification, right relationship, stabilization, and conscious regulation of life force. * Not withdrawal, but engagement: This is not a path of asceticism or passivity. The aspirant does not seek to escape the world, but to engage with it more skillfully, more compassionately, and with greater awareness — transforming everyday experience into an opportunity for growth, service, and the realization of our deeper unity with all beings. **Class dynamic:** Each session opens with a group centering meditation, followed by a teacher-led lesson with slides. Newcomers are welcome to simply listen in. Those ready to engage are invited to contribute questions or insights. Our goal is an atmosphere of genuine shared inquiry. **Modules:** 1. **The Purpose of Evolution —** Transforming Experience into Beauty and Love Impressions 2. Why Consciousness Suffers 3. **The Field of Impressions —** Samskara, Memory, and the Astral Light 4. **Yama I —** Harmlessness and Right Relationship 5. **Yama II —** Truthfulness and the Right Use of Energy 6. **Yama III —** Non-Grasping and Freedom from Possession 7. **Niyama I —** Purification and the Transformation of Time 8. **Niyama II —** Contentment and Sacred Tension 9. **Niyama III —** Self-Study and Surrender to the Soul 10. **The Science of Detachment —** Witness Consciousness and the Burning Ground 11. **Asana —** Stabilizing the Instrument of Consciousness 12. **Pranayama —** Regulation of Life Force and Conscious Circulation **Overall arc:** * **Modules 1–3:** Understanding distortion and impressions * **Modules 4–6:** Purifying relationship and spatial distortion * **Modules 7–9:** Purifying time distortion and identity * **Modules 10–12:** Stabilizing and refining the instruments of consciousness *Final synthesis: The first four limbs of yoga gradually train the aspirant to observe without identification, experience without attachment, relate without separation, and transform distortion into enduring impressions of beauty and love.*

Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada** Physical books are available in exchange for donation. This weekly study group offers an opportunity to explore the **Bhagavad Gita**, one of the foundational texts of **Vedic philosophy**, through sustained reading, reflection, and thoughtful dialogue. The Bhagavad Gita addresses fundamental questions of **consciousness, duty, freedom**, and **the nature of reality**. Presented as a dialogue between the warrior Arjuna and Sri Krishna, it offers insight into paths of **knowledge, devotion**, and **action**—and examines how these integrate within human life and spiritual development. The approach will be: * Textual study combined with open discussion and inquiry * Exploration of Vedic philosophy, cosmology, and psychology * Question-and-answer format to support understanding * A complete picture of the cultural and spiritual context This group is suitable for: * Those new to the Bhagavad Gita or Vedic philosophy * Students continuing their study of Eastern spiritual traditions * Anyone interested in consciousness, ethics, and the structure of reality * Participants seeking grounded philosophical inquiry alongside spiritual exploration **No prior background is required**—only openness, curiosity, and a willingness to engage thoughtfully with the material. *** **About the Teacher** **Radhikatma Prabhu** is a disciple in the **Brahma Sampradaya**, one of four authorized Vedic lineages. He received second-level initiation from his spiritual master, **Tamal Krishna Goswami**, who was a direct disciple of **H.D.G.A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada**, the scholar and teacher who brought Vedic knowledge to the Western world and founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Radhikatma Prabhu spent many years studying and practicing in **Israel, Europe and India**, where he received training in Vedic rituals and holds the traditional status of **Brahmin**. During his formation, he worked closely with Tamal Krishna Goswami, who in addition to his spiritual leadership was an accomplished academic, holding a **B.A. in Religious Studies** and a **Ph.D. from Cambridge University**, where he authored nine volumes of scholarly work. This period of close service deepened Radhikatma Prabhu's understanding of both the **devotional and philosophical dimensions** of the tradition. He brings to this study group both the authenticity of traditional lineage transmission and the ability to make these teachings **accessible and relevant** to contemporary students seeking to understand Vedic philosophy and apply it.
