All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 135 / Rushmore
All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 135 / Rushmore
Rushmore is a 1998 American comedy film directed by Wes Anderson about a teenager named Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman in his film debut), his friendship with rich industrialist Herman Blume (Bill Murray), and their shared affection for elementary school teacher Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams). The film was co-written by Anderson and Owen Wilson. The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2016, deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema. Have We Got The Wrong Idea About Porn? - Whitechapel Debates
Have We Got The Wrong Idea About Porn? - Whitechapel Debates
**This House Regrets The Social Stigma on Pornography** **Why Are We Having This Debate?** Porn has been at the heart of social debate for years. With the rise and awareness of porn addiction to the UK government requiring ID verification to access your preffered website the conversation around porn has become increasingly hostile. **BUT** Many sex positive activists have been speaking out against the narrative that porn is inherently bad and that actually, we may have been wrong about porn in the first place and that the stigma driving people to use porn in secret and feel shame for their use of it as the real harm that we are all engaging in by viewing porn as an inherent bad. **So we ask** \- Have we been wrong about porn this whole time? **Articles** **[Porn: Is It Bad For You - Medical News Today](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/is-porn-bad "https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/is-porn-bad")** **[Pornography Use Among British Adults - PubMed](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12011978/ "https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12011978/")** **[Therapists Report "Out of Control" Porn Use In Men - The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/jan/03/more-than-half-of-uk-therapists-report-rise-in-out-of-control-porn-use "https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/jan/03/more-than-half-of-uk-therapists-report-rise-in-out-of-control-porn-use")** **Come Along and Have Your Vote!** **What We Do** 3v3 panel debate where our members explore the strongest arguments for a given topic. A debate should tell the audience what they need to know and not just what the speakers think. If you feel the same way, then we want to meet you. Debate London is the year-round series of free public debates held weekly at venues across the capital. The series is run by Debate London, a social enterprise that helps its members to advance their personal and professional development by teaching them how to debate. All of our speakers are [Debate London members](https://www.debate.london/plans "https://www.debate.london/plans") who have agreed to defend a particular perspective the audience need to hear, rather than just share their own personal opinion. After presenting the point of view assigned to them, the audience are then given the floor to cross-examine them and share their own position. The only time we hear what the speakers really think is at the end of the debate when they tell us where they really stand and whether this changed at all while learning how to defend the perspective assigned to them. **After Debate Social** After all of our debates we have a post debate hang-out. This is a chance for our community to get to know new people, explore new ideas and generally have more fun as a club! Come along and join us for a post-debate social! **Venue** Our venues serve drinks (alcoholic and soft drinks) as well as brilliant food. All can be ordered from the bar **Do not bring external food or drink into our venues you will be asked to throw it away or to finish it outside. - This is a venue rule which we need to follow.**
Kant’s Cave: Enlightened Self-Interest of Adam Smith - Sean O'Connor
Kant’s Cave: Enlightened Self-Interest of Adam Smith - Sean O'Connor
ATTEND IN PERSON OR ON ZOOM **NB** This event takes place on Tuesday as Monday is a public holiday in the UK Enlightened Self-Interest - The Moral Philosophy of Adam Smith On April 7, meet at Kant's Cave to listen to Sean O'Connor talking about the moral philosophy of Adam Smith. Smith is often portrayed as the philosopher of selfishness and free markets. But was he really? In fact, Smith was first and foremost a moral philosopher, deeply interested in sympathy, human motivation, and how people cooperate in society. Drawing on close observation of human behaviour, his work offers a far richer view of self-interest than the stereotype suggests. In this talk, Sean O’Connor will introduce Smith’s ideas and explores what they reveal about morality, self-interest, and human cooperation today. Event video teaser: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Mfx-yPp-bD0 Sean O’Connor spent over twenty years as an advertising executive before becoming a serial entrepreneur, assembler of private equity projects, investor and corporate strategist. He has been the Chairman of a number of public and private companies and a director of many others. His acclaimed novel, *The Prisoner’s Dilemma,* was published in 2013 and his four-volume series, *The Secrets of Life: From Big Bang to Trump* appeared throughout 2023. Every first Monday of the month (or Tuesday if Monday falls on a bank holiday in the UK), Philosophy For All invites its members and guests to attend Kant's Cave for a lecture, debate and social evening. This is a free event which takes place at 19:30 in the upstairs bar at the Two Chairmen, 39 Dartmouth Street, SW1H 9BP, London, but could also be joined online via Zoom. Kant's Cave events are supported by The Royal Institute of Philosophy's Local Partners Programme. 🌿 Walk with Confidence: Women’s Self-Confidence & Presence Workshop
🌿 Walk with Confidence: Women’s Self-Confidence & Presence Workshop 🗓 **Date:** Saturday, 11 April ⏰ **Time**: 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM 📍 **Location**: The Brick at Steps Studios - Shorteditch 90 Hanbury Street, London, E1 5JL (Nearest stations: [Aldgate East Station]() / [Shoreditch High Street Station]()) 💷 **Fee:** £5.50 per person ONLY you can make the payment here: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/246V695LH8DVG Any other questions just let us know ⸻ ✨ What this session is about Confidence isn’t just something you feel—it’s something people can see the moment you walk into a space. In this workshop, we focus on building confidence from the inside out, starting with something simple but powerful: the way you walk, carry yourself, and express your energy. The way you move through the world can influence how others see you—and more importantly, how safe, grounded, and confident you feel in yourself. This is a beginner-friendly, supportive session designed to help you reconnect with your natural presence and strength. ⸻ 🌸 What you’ll learn • How to walk with calm, grounded confidence • How posture and body language shape first impressions • How to express presence, boundaries, and self-assurance • How small physical changes can shift your internal confidence We’ll also gently touch on awareness and presence in public spaces—helping you feel more in control and at ease in everyday life. ⸻ 🌿 What we’ll do together This is not just a talk—it’s an interactive, experience-based session. We’ll explore: • Self-connection reflection A simple guided moment to ask yourself: “What is something I truly love about myself?” (No pressure to share—just for you.) • Body language awareness game A light and fun activity where we guess emotions from posture and movement—helping you understand how confidence is communicated without words. • Optional sharing circle A relaxed space where participants can share thoughts or experiences around confidence—listening is just as valuable as speaking. • Optional appreciation moment If the group feels comfortable, we may include a short moment where participants offer a genuine, strength-based compliment to someone else. (Always optional, based on group comfort.) ⸻ 👗 What to wear Wear something that makes you feel: • Comfortable • Confident • Like yourself Please wear shoes you normally wear in your daily life (trainers, flats, etc.). This session is about real-life confidence, not performance—so no need for heels unless that’s your everyday style. ⸻ 💬 Who this is for • Women who want to feel more confident in daily life • Anyone who wants to improve presence, posture, and energy • Beginners—no experience needed ⸻ 🌷 A gentle note This is a supportive, relaxed, and non-judgmental space. You’re welcome to come alone or bring a friend. 📸 By attending our event, you agree that you may be filmed or photographed and that we have the right to use these images or videos on our social media platforms. ⸻ 🤍 Join us Take a small step toward a more confident version of yourself—starting from how you move through the world. Feel free to invite friends or share this event with others who might enjoy it ✨
🫀Offline Women Discuss Being Human in the Age of AI
🫀Offline Women Discuss Being Human in the Age of AI
Join the Offline Women for a screen-free conversation exploring what it means to be human today. This event is about being truly present and nurturing real-life connection in a low-key, friendly atmosphere. We’ll leave our phones tucked away to enjoy a meaningful, screen-free dialogue focused on: * Defining the essence of our humanity: connection, empathy, beauty, emotions, etc. * How AI and technology are changing our jobs and human skills. * What it means to be truly present when life is increasingly lived with digital distractions. The entire focus is on authentic connection and shared experience, allowing us to simply be present with each other’s narratives. We commit to a phone-free experience to immerse ourselves fully in the discussion and recharge our attention. A wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded women and share personal stories and insights in a relaxed, friendly way. Spots are limited to ensure the group remains small, intimate, and everyone feels heard and comfortable sharing. Come to step away from the screen and reconnect with the power of our shared humanity. In a world of AI, be human.
Why Conservatism Always Fails
Why Conservatism Always Fails
“Conservatism,” in some form or another, is a mainstay of politics in Western countries. As a political philosophy, however, it is undefined, and the “conservatives” of today have very little in common with those of previous generations. What do conservatives actually stand for? Why are conservatives so effective in opposition, and so incompetent in government? And is socialism the only alternative? Join us for a discussion of Conservatism vs. Objectivism, an interview Ayn Rand gave at Columbia University more than 60 years ago — one that today’s conservatives would benefit greatly from hearing. Wine Not? (Women Only)
Wine Not? (Women Only)
Wine Not? is a women-only gathering before the Balancers Saturday social. Most attendees come solo, so it’s an easy and welcoming place to meet people and settle in before the night gets busier. London can make meeting new people feel awkward, especially if you're coming alone. This early social creates a comfortable environment where you can chat, laugh, and get to know a few friendly faces first. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, a few light games, and plenty of time to connect naturally. Around **8.30 pm the main Balancers social begins**, and the room fills as over **150 people usually join the night**. Wine Not? naturally flows into the rest of the evening, so you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the full experience. Coming solo is completely normal. Our hosts will be there to help everyone feel comfortable, included, and connected from the start. **Check out our past events here:** **[https://www.instagram.com/_balancers/](https://www.instagram.com/_balancers/)** **Want to stay in the loop? Lesbian Book Club (Women Only)
Lesbian Book Club (Women Only)
**One quick note on how the community works** **L Community is member-funded.** The standard contribution is **£13 per month** to cover the platform, events, moderation, and safeguarding. If £13 isn’t workable for you right now, you can opt out for now. Support can be changed or cancelled at any time. Support the platform: [www.thelcommunity.com/back-us-now](http://www.thelcommunity.com/back-us-now) **What this is** A relaxed Sunday afternoon book club for lesbian and bisexual women, meeting in person. This is our first event and we will discuss which book we plan to read. It’s low-pressure, calm, and easy to settle into the event. Women usually range from their 20s through to their 60s. Most sessions are a genuine mix of new faces and returning women, so you won’t be the only person coming for the first time. Most people come on their own. That’s normal here, and we make sure you don’t feel it. Hosts introduce people, keep things flowing, and make the space feel easy rather than awkward. If you’re feeling nervous, you won’t be the only one. Many women feel that way before their first book club and end up staying longer than they expected. **Important** This is a female-only lesbian space. That boundary is clear and upheld at events. If that doesn’t work for you, this won’t be the right event. **How to attend** You must register in advance to attend. Register here: [www.thelcommunity.com/book-club/](https://thelcommunity.com/book-club/) **Arriving and support** The table booking is under the name Jenny. If you’re nervous, arriving alone, can’t find us, or have any difficulty at all, you can message at any point – days before, on the day, or during the event. If it helps, we can have someone come outside to meet you. **WhatsApp Jenny** WhatsApp only (calls or messages): **+44 7591 386019** Normal calls or texts will not go through on this number. **Staying connected** Registering for an event is separate from joining the wider community. If you’d like to stay connected between events, access the private WhatsApp group, and join the wider network, you can register here: [www.thelcommunity.com/register](http://www.thelcommunity.com/register)

This trail is a meandering path through the woods. There will be some overlooks and a couple stops at the creek as well as time along a waterway. It will not be a fast paced hike. There is some elevation change and uneven terrain. I will be using poles just to be safe! Will aim to get in about three miles. Optional lunch after if there is an interest.
