The Strategy Gap: what separates good PMs from great product leaders
You're invited to our next Women in Product London event!
As product managers grow in their careers, one skill becomes increasingly important: **strategy**.
For this event, we’re bringing together product leaders from a range of industries and company stages to share how they approach product vision and strategy in practice: what it really means to be strategic, how you develop strategic thinking over time, and why it often becomes the defining skill that separates good PMs from great product leaders.
Some of the topics will include how to develop stronger strategic thinking as you progress in your career, how to influence organisations through vision and direction, and real-world examples of turning high-level strategy into meaningful product outcomes.
The evening will give you the opportunity to network with your peers over drinks and canapés before and after our speakers take the stage. Join us for a mix of insightful presentations where you'll take away practical insights from experienced product leaders and have the chance to ask questions throughout the event.

UPHOLSTERY – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR – DAYTIME
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-daytime-24/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-daytime-24/)
**⋆⋆⋆**
KEY PROJECT: RE-UPHOLSTERING YOUR OWN CHAIR.
Suitable for beginners and fun for advanced learners.
This workshop is led by Krasmira Nikolova, an experienced upholsterer.
We provide the use of all upholstery tools and equipment including compressed air staple guns. Basic upholstery materials that you require for your project will be moderately charged on a pay-as-you-use basis and will be dependent on each chair’s requirements. We can advise you on the purchase of your top fabric and we have a lovely library of fabric samples to help make up your mind. The Goodlife Centre sells all the basic tools and materials for use on projects worked on at home.
This is a fantastic chance to up-cycle and personalise a family piece you have at home or a junk shop find and a great way to immerse yourself into the wonderful world of upholstery.
The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise.
**Choosing a suitable chair**
If you are a newcomer to upholstery, there are a couple of pointers to help you choose a chair to work on. Choose something that has one or two flat planes – a seat and a back – as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve.
If you are a complete beginner, you could bring something more simple such as an upholstered footstool. More experienced upholsters can bring more complex pieces. Your chair can be traditionally built or modern, but be aware that some modern pieces have been constructed using machinery and are difficult to recreate by hand.
[Click here for a detailed PDF of suitable chairs.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2r8UvbQtaH5RTVKUjlBdkhDX3c/view?usp=sharing)
**Please email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk with a photo of your chair prior to the course so we can answer any suitability questions and advise if your chair is suitable**.
We have very limited storage at the centre, so we can only store smaller pieces during the course. Please make sure the total dimensions are less than 1000mm high by 750mm wide, with a depth of 750mm.
The use of tools and machinery is included.
All materials will be charged at nominal rates. Some materials will not be kept in stock but can be ordered. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.
MAKE A WOOD CHAIR – 12 EVENINGS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/make-a-wood-chair-12-evenings-20/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/make-a-wood-chair-12-evenings-20/)
⋆⋆⋆
A brand new varied and multi-skill twelve-week evening course.
Over twelve evenings you will learn how to make a planked redwood seat and fit splayed oak or sapele legs and back rails to make an elegant ‘Staked’ chair.
This version is derived from an ‘open source’ drawing in the Anarchist’s Design Book by Lost Art Press. The prototype has been made by the tutor- Auram Desforge, who grew up working on timber frame houses with his father in Canada.
Each stage of the process will be demonstrated and then, using mostly traditional hand tools, you will produce a chair using the classic ‘Through wedged tenons’ with an elegant, curved back created from glueing together bent veneers in a press. You will be able to learn the pleasure of handling spokeshaves, a ‘bit and brace’ and fine finishing with cabinet scrapers. There is also some use of our workshop machines that you will be trained to use.
Learn to measure, mark and make. Use the evenings to immerse yourself into the calming mental space of woodwork.
Suitable for beginners. Trust the tools. You don’t have to be a lumberjack to master this chair.
The use of all materials and tools is included.

See you there!
Cheryl (@oicheryl)
**Universal Mesh: Connect and Secure Everything (Mark Boddington, HAProxy Technologies)**
Managing connectivity across diverse business units, clouds, locations, and partners is a complex challenge for large organizations. Traditional solutions like VPNs and firewalls provide network-level connectivity, while Service Mesh offers application-aware traffic management for cloud-native environments – but there’s a huge difference in how these connectivity models are managed, secured, and observed.
Universal Mesh bridges this gap with a unified interconnectivity model – delivering the benefits of Service Mesh in a resource-efficient model that works across your entire infrastructure. Universal Mesh brings together North-South and East-West communication in a consistent pattern to connect every cloud, app, and service.
Join us to discover how Universal Mesh simplifies connectivity management, unifies security and governance, and provides consistent control over traffic flows—regardless of where your applications run or how they’re built.
**Building Abstractions That Matter: A Developer Platform on Kubernetes (Chaamini Mangaleswaran, WSO2)**
Kubernetes provides powerful building blocks, but turning those blocks into a usable developer platform is hard. Many platform teams end up assembling CI pipelines, deployment tools, portals, and monitoring systems, only to pass the resulting complexity on to developers. In this talk, I’ll share the thinking behind OpenChoreo, an open-source, modular platform designed to sit on top of Kubernetes and make it easier for developers to build and run software without needing to understand everything underneath. The key idea is simple: introduce the right abstractions, so developers can focus on shipping features while platform teams retain control and consistency. In this talk we will discuss practical examples of what to hide, what to expose, and how to avoid turning Kubernetes itself into a developer-facing interface. If you’re building or struggling with an internal developer platform, this talk is for you.

Stop Guessing: A Product Person's Guide to AI Adoption
## 🤝 Host Information
A co-hosted event by ProductTank Columbus & Women in Product Columbus
💡 About the Workshop
AI adoption is stalling across organizations — not because of a lack of motivation or tools, but because it's fundamentally a behavior design challenge.
This hands-on workshop applies proven Behavior Design models and methods to help you move from a vague organizational wish to boost AI adoption to 3-5 concrete, testable interventions you can act on starting tomorrow.
Whether you're a product manager, on a product team, or just someone trying to get AI to actually stick at work, you'll leave with a clear picture of what's worth focusing on, what to ignore, and how to drive real, sustained adoption — no guesswork required.

Take Control Of Your Life, Freedom From Negative Thoughts & Irrational Emotions
Feeling down? Sometimes depressed? Can't focus? Negativity & stress? Recent losses? Creativity in career and personal life hindered by mental blocks? Sometimes we never fully recover from traumatic experiences.
Whether it was yesterday, last week or a year ago, traumatic experiences - a loss of a loved one, losing a job, a breakup - can leave you scarred. You talk about it and feel a little better, but it never goes away. After you hang up the phone, it's still there; the sadness, the cloud, the over-thinking, the worry, the guilt. You try to focus, but you're blocked. You try to look forward into new experiences, new relationships but a cloud is hanging over you, casting a shadow on what you once considered a bright, cheerful future.
What happened to your courage? Your strength of character? You're 'why not' attitude? Whoever said 'time heals' must have had a special time machine, because after weeks, months, years, you're wondering - when exactly does that kick in? Sometimes it seems like drinking or drugs are the way to go. But they wear off, and now the problem is still there with added side effects from the drugs.
At this free local Meetup event we will talk about:
* What causes grief, anxiety and depression to become chronic.
* Is it possible to regain your joy and happiness even after traumatic experiences?
* How to break away from negativity and focus on the future
* What are the steps to take to get control of your mind and your emotions?
Learn about a safe, gentle, do-it-yourself counseling that can be done in the comfort of your own home.
Let's explore safe, effective solutions for healing from traumatic experiences.

Want to Truly Heal from Emotional Trauma?
Why are we unhappy? Where does emotional pain come from? Studies show that people who suffer from long-term emotional pain have painful experiences in their lives that were never fully resolved in their mind. In other words, there were issues in the past that were not completely dealt with. This can include abuse in childhood, breakups, divorce, death of a loved one, to name a few.
How do you know whether you have gotten over something painful? Here is an easy test: Do you still have attention on what had happened to you? For instance, do you still find yourself thinking about something painful that you went through? If you are, then you are not over it. In fact, in severe cases, people find themselves playing a "tape" in their mind over and over again.
So how do you heal from your past? How do you stop the "tape" playing in your mind? In this meeting, you will learn a technique to help you with that.
Come join us! Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
