Beyond the Catalog and Drug discovery with AI
Beyond the Catalog and Drug discovery with AI
**🚀 Join our free Budapest Data Science Meetup!** In our first session, TamĂĄs NĂ©meth from DataHub will explore the evolution of data catalogs into "Metadata Control Planes," explaining how authoritative context is the secret sauce for preventing "confident but wrong" AI agents. Then, Daniel Darabos, CTO of LynxKite will take us into the world of biotech, demonstrating how GPU-accelerated screening is fast-tracking drug discovery by targeting G-protein coupled receptors with unprecedented speed. **📅 Date & venue:** * **26 March 2026, Thursday, from 6 pm** * **Shapr3D Office 1054 Budapest, AkadĂ©mia u. 6. · Budapest** **Please note that the event's official language is English! By attending this event you agree to be photographed. Let us know if you would not like to appear in these pictures. We may use the pictures in social media.** **Schedule** **17:45 gates open** **17:45-18:15 Warmup and chit-chat** **18:15-19:30 Talks** **19:30 - 21:00 Drinks, snacks, networking** **Beyond the Catalog: The Control Plane for Modern Ecosystems and Agentic AI** **[NĂ©meth TamĂĄs](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nemetht/),** [DataHub ](https://www.linkedin.com/company/datahub-cloud/) Software Engineer @ DataHub. Building Datahub, the open-source metadata catalog. Previously led the data-engineering team at Prezi and worked on a platform to fulfill all of the analytical needs at scale. Tamas is also a committer in the Apache Gobblin project. Abstract: Traditional catalogs are no longer sufficient for today’s complex, decentralized landscapes. This session explores their transformation into Metadata Control Planes, the operational “central nervous system” for enterprise information. As AI agents replace humans as primary consumers, this infrastructure becomes the critical bedrock for Context Engineering. Unlike people, these autonomous systems act directly on the information they find without seeking clarification; they require authoritative context to avoid “confident but wrong” outcomes. We will demonstrate how to repurpose your existing lineage, quality signals, and business glossaries to provide the provenance and semantic clarity these models crave. Discover how to evolve a passive inventory into a high-performance engine for reliable, enterprise-grade AI. **Drug discovery with AI: Targeting G-protein coupled receptors with GPU-accelerated screening** Abstract: GPCRs are an important but difficult drug target. The receptor we are focusing on, called Mas, has an important role in regulating the cardiovascular system and muscle growth. A natural compound that activates Mas is in phase 3 trials for treating old-age muscle loss (sarcopenia). As it's based on a plant extract, only a limited supply can be produced. The search is on for a highly efficient, safe, synthetic alternative! Join us to learn more about our GPU-accelerated solution for scoring billions of potential drug molecules with a variety of models. \*\*[Daniel Darabos ](https://www.linkedin.com/in/darabos/)\*\*is the CTO of **[LynxKite](https://www.linkedin.com/company/lynxkite/)**. He has studied at BME and worked at Google and Lynx Analytics previously. He's currently applying his experience with building data science and AI applications to drug discovery for age-related diseases.

Session #25 - The philosophy of Ubuntu
Session #25 - The philosophy of Ubuntu
“Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” ― Nelson Mandela **(In english!)** Throughout history, human societies have wrestled with division. When identity hardens into polarization, coexistence becomes fragile. Differences can escalate into civil conflict, deepening distrust and resentment that often persist for generations. Yet history also offers rare examples of a different path: moments when cycles of hatred did not spiral into further violence, but instead turned toward reconciliation. In this session we will explore **Ubuntu** — the African ethical philosophy that shaped the moral framework of leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — proposes that identity is not purely individual but relational. Even those we oppose remain part of our shared collective. This insight may be the hidden condition behind successful reconciliations. Beyond South Africa’s transition from apartheid, we can examine other cases of reconciliation: the American post–Civil War, the reconciliation between France and Germany, Japan’s postwar transformation, and the peace process in Northern Ireland. **Introduction of guests (15 minutes)** We start with a short introduction of the guests. **KĂ©rdĂ©sek (1 Ăłra 45 perc)** 1. According to Ubuntu why is hope better than optimism? 2. Are we living in a time of self-respect? 3. Can Ubuntu be applied to someone who opposes Ubuntu? 4. What happens when “we” includes people who reject your values? 5. How does Ubuntu work when conflict is on-going? 6. Can the strength of the collective sometimes go the wrong direction? How to avoid that? 7. Have you put yourself in the shoes of someone you deeply reject? 8. How can we compare the european reconciliation with the South African or North-Irish reconciliations? 9. What is more important for reconciliation: leadership or strong institutions? 10. Can forgiveness be compatible with justice all the time? Is there a point where forgiveness becomes injustice? 11. Why is truth so important in reconciliation? 12. Can reconciliation hold when material inequality persists? 13. Can ubuntu help to undo polarization? 14. How can we apply ubuntu to social media? 15. Is ubuntu a way of individual-to-social maturity? 16. Is polarization a symptom of moral seriousness — or moral immaturity? 17. Is polarization driven more by inequality or by identity? **RSVP:** Please confirm your attendance here on Meetup to save your space and if you cannot assist, yield your space to another person in the waiting list. We welcome donations from 400 HUF to keep the costs of the meetup (If Paypal doesnt work, dont worry, you can donate on location with cash, Revolut, or transfer)

Hello everyone, Welcome to the Monthly Book Club — the discussion edition of the Budapest Silent Book Club for those who enjoy reading the same book and sharing thoughts together. This March, we’ll be reading *The Body Keeps the Score* by Bessel van der Kolk. The book explores how trauma affects both mind and body, and how people can heal through a variety of therapeutic approaches. Whether you loved the book, found it difficult, or didn’t manage to finish — you’re invited. If you want to have your say on the next book, join the poll in our Goodreads group(though this one was not voted, i just want to read it:))!

A Night With
Orpheus: Art, Nature, and the Fight for Eternity
A Night With
Orpheus: Art, Nature, and the Fight for Eternity
Join us for the new session of our discussion series **“A Night With
”**, where we dive into timeless myths and their universal messages. Following our last session, where we explored the duality of Apollinian & Dionysiac, this the time to delve into the journey of Orhpeus. **What to expect:** * I will open the meetup with a short introduction to Orpheus’ myth and share (or suggest) a few possible interpretations and connections. * After that, the floor is yours! Bring your thoughts, reflections, and any links you see between this myth and other domains, e.g. literature, art, philosophy, psychology, history or even your own creative work. * If you’re an artist and your work resonates with the divine twins' story, feel free to share it with the group. **Before the event:** Take 5 minutes to read the quick snippet of Orpheus’ myth (provided belowđŸ‘‡đŸœ) and think of: * A book, artwork, or personal reflection that relates to her story. * Any modern parallels or insights you’d like to discuss. This is a space for **open dialogue, creativity, and shared exploration**. ### **đŸ«§The story of Orpheus in Brief** **đŸŽŒOrpheus is the legendary poet–musician** of Greek myth, famous for playing the lyre so beautifully that animals, trees, and even stones were said to be **moved by his song.** He marries Eurydice, a nymph (or mortal woman in some versions), and their happiness is brief: Eurydice dies suddenly, most commonly after being bitten by a snake while fleeing danger or wandering in the fields. Stricken with grief, Orpheus refuses to accept her death. **He descends alive into the Underworld to bring her back.** There, his music softens the hearts of the rulers of the dead, Hades and Persephone. Moved by his devotion and the power of his art, they agree to release Eurydice, on one condition: Orpheus must lead her upward to the world of the living without looking back at her until they have both reached the surface. Orpheus begins the ascent, hearing her footsteps behind him but unable to see her. Near the exit, at the threshold between darkness and daylight, **doubt and longing overwhelm him**. He turns to look. In that instant Eurydice is lost again, fading back into the Underworld, unreachable. Orpheus tries to follow, but the passage is closed to the living; he is forced to return alone. After this second loss, Orpheus withdraws from love and society. In many versions, he is eventually killed violently (most famously torn apart by maenads). Even then, the myth insists that his song persists: his severed head and lyre continue to “sing” as they drift downstream, and the lyre is later placed among the stars as a constellation. 📃📜**Principal ancient sources:** * Plato, *Symposium* * Apollonius Rhodius, *Argonautica* * Virgil, *Georgics* * Ovid, *Metamorphoses* * Pausanias, *Description of Greece* * Hyginus, *Astronomica* * | | | --- | |

To this end we've set up a survey form at [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15eBKF1nQQ2XS5gzD4rvhVRHMBEj7lJtHuA9wXupS3Uc)
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.

**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you. The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively. This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way. **YouTube Link** TBA
