How Your Past Experiences Can Negatively Affect You
How Your Past Experiences Can Negatively Affect You
Description: Join us for an enlightening lecture that delves into the intricate web of the past and its potential to cast a long shadow over our present lives. In this thought-provoking session, we will explore the profound ways in which the past can negatively impact our well-being, choices, and personal growth. Throughout history, human lives have been shaped by a multitude of experiences, both positive and negative. These experiences accumulate, leaving imprints on our memories and shaping our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. While the past holds valuable lessons and cherished memories, it can also harbor unresolved conflicts, traumas, and limitations that subtly influence our present reality. During this lecture, we will navigate the labyrinth of psychological and emotional baggage that may accumulate over time, inhibiting our personal development and impeding our ability to lead fulfilling lives. By examining the effects of the past on various aspects of our existence, we will gain a deeper understanding of how it can manifest in detrimental ways. Through engaging discussions, case studies, and real-life examples, we will explore the following topics: 1. The Power of Unresolved Trauma: We will delve into the profound impact of unresolved traumatic experiences and how they can subtly shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By shedding light on the intricate mechanisms behind these effects, we can begin to dismantle their hold on our lives. 2. Inherited Baggage: Examining the intergenerational transmission of pain, beliefs, and patterns of behavior, we will explore how our ancestors' experiences can unconsciously influence our lives. By recognizing and addressing this inherited baggage, we can break free from destructive cycles and chart our own path. 3. Limiting Beliefs and Self-Sabotage: Uncovering the deeply ingrained beliefs and narratives that stem from past experiences, we will explore how they can become self-fulfilling prophecies, stifling our potential and sabotaging our aspirations. By challenging these beliefs, we can reclaim our personal power and reshape our narratives. 4. Breaking Free: Strategies for Healing and Transformation: This segment will offer practical tools and techniques for healing past wounds, releasing emotional burdens, and cultivating resilience. We will explore approaches such as therapy, mindfulness, self-reflection, and forgiveness to facilitate the process of letting go and embracing personal growth. By the end of this lecture, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the profound influence the past can exert on their lives and how to break free from its negative impact. Armed with newfound knowledge and practical insights, they will be empowered to embark on a transformative journey towards self-discovery, healing, and the creation of a brighter future. Note: This lecture is open to all individuals seeking personal growth and a deeper understanding of the psychological and emotional factors that shape their lives. No prior knowledge or experience is required, only an open mind and a willingness to explore the depths of the past.

Register on Luma: [https://luma.com/igw02vjg](https://luma.com/igw02vjg)** London Tech Week is full of conversations about what enterprise AI could do. This is the event for the engineers who have to build it. Specifically: agents that hold up past the demo. The ones that need memory that persists across sessions, context that doesn't collapse under load, behaviour that's auditable when something goes wrong, and infrastructure that can actually take the weight. That's a harder problem than most will admit - and we're going to get into it properly. Two engineering teams, one evening. Bring your hardest questions. Pizza and drinks on us. **Speakers** **[Tobie Morgan Hitchcock](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tobiemorganhitchcock/) — Co-Founder & CEO, SurrealDB** **[Martin Schaer](https://www.linkedin.com/in/martinschaer/) — Solutions Engineer, SurrealDB** **[Ziv Ilan](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ziv-ilan-nvidia/) — Super AI team, NVIDIA** *** **Agenda** * 18:00 - Doors + drinks + pizza * 18:30 - Welcome * 18:35 - Talks + Q&A * 20:00 - Drinks + networking * 21:00 - Close *** **About the speakers** **[Tobie Morgan Hitchcock](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tobiemorganhitchcock/) (CEO & Co-Founder, SurrealDB)** Tobie Morgan Hitchcock is CEO & Co-Founder of SurrealDB, an AI-native, multi-model database for modern applications. In-Person: Streaming meetup Apache Kafka® for Fraud Detection & Infinite Kafka
In-Person: Streaming meetup Apache Kafka® for Fraud Detection & Infinite Kafka
Join us on June 11th from **6:00pm** for a Data Streaming meetup hosted by **Moniepoint!** **PLEASE bring your PHOTO ID and REGISTER with your First and Last Name. For security purpose** 🗓 **Agenda:** * 6:00pm – 6:30pm: Food/Drinks and Networking * 6:30pm - 7:15pm: Tom Scott, CEO, Streambased * 7:15pm - 8:00pm: *Abraham Imohiosen,* Engineering Manager * 8:00pm - 8:30pm: Q&A Networking. 💡**Speaker One:** Tom Scott, CEO, Streambased **Title of Talk:** Infinite Kafka? Rethinking Retention with Iceberg **Abstract:** Apache Kafka is designed for high-throughput, low-latency event streaming, not cost-efficient long-term storage. Yet we constantly see cases like event sourcing, audit/compliance, and large-scale reprocessing forcing that pattern onto it. As retention increases, costs grow linearly to support edge cases, one-time runs, and “checkbox” use cases. Can Iceberg help here? In this talk, Tom explores a hybrid architecture that separates hot and cold data while preserving Kafka’s log semantics. Using a combination of Kafka and Apache Iceberg, he demonstrates how to extend Kafka into low-cost object storage, enabling effectively unlimited retention without sacrificing performance or access patterns. The result is a unified log that supports both real-time processing and long-term replay, removing the traditional trade-off between cost and capability in Kafka-based systems. **Bio:** Long-time enthusiast of Kafka and all things data integration, Tom has more than 15 years of experience in innovative and efficient ways to store, query, and move data. Tom is currently CEO at Streambased, a company focused on unifying operational and analytical data estates into a single, consistent, and efficient data layer. 💡**Speaker Two:** Abraham Imohiosen, Engineering Manager, Fraud Prevention Tools. **Title of Talk:** From CDC to Decision: Kafka as the Fraud Detection Pipeline's Connective Tissue **Abstract:** Fraud detection isn't one system — it's a system of moving parts (databases, feature stores, rule engines, ML models, case management tools) that all need to agree on what just happened, in milliseconds. Kafka sits in the middle of it, and treating it as "just the message bus" leaves a lot of value on the table. In this talk, I'll walk through three jobs Kafka does inside Moniepoint's fraud detection pipeline: moving events between services, powering real-time aggregations and windowed features, and acting as a CDC source that turns database changes into the canonical stream feeding a final aggregate store, as well as routing evaluated events into the case management system for final decisioning. **Bio:** *Abraham Imohiosen is an Engineering Manager at Moniepoint, where he leads the Fraud Prevention team in building case management systems and machine-learning detection models that protect millions of customers and billions in transaction volume. He has over 10 years of experience across fintech and cloud-based architectures, having previously led the delivery of Monieworld Transfers and a savings product. Abraham holds an M.Sc. in Robotic Systems Engineering from RWTH Aachen University.* \*\*\* If you are interested in hosting/speaking at a meetup, please email community@confluent.io

Knowing Who You Can Trust
Knowing Who You Can Trust
Your survival depends on knowing who you can rely on. But how can you tell who your real friends are? How can you determine if a person will help make a joint venture successful? Is there a way to predict behavior? Yes. There are fundamental elements to human behavior. When you know them you have insight into your fellow man, and just by observing how people act, you will know *everything* about them. #### On this lecture you will learn: * The important role of trust in human relationships. * The Hubbard Chart of Human Evaluation—the tool to know true character and predict what people will do. * How to evaluate others accurately and guarantee a more certain future for yourself and those you care about. With the knowledge you learn on this course, you will have tools to know who you can trust and who you can depend on. *“Trustworthiness is a highly esteemed commodity. When one has it, one is considered valuable. When one has lost it, one may be considered worthless.”* *—L. Ron Hubbard*

Vauxhall Circling drop in evening
Vauxhall Circling drop in evening
Circling is a present-moment relational awareness practice. We’re bringing our attention to what’s unfolding in real time, repeatedly returning to what’s happening within ourselves, between us and in the shared space of the group. We practice approaching our own experience and the experience of others with curiosity, becoming more aware of the subtleties of what is present. The emphasis is on staying in contact with your experience as it unfolds. The unfolding may be quiet and internal or it may lead to words – naming sensations, thoughts, emotions, impulses or perceptions. It might also include movement or other non-verbal expression. The idea is not to try to change what’s there, but to become more aware of what it is and how we are meeting it and relating to it in the moment. Often awareness follows expression and this is okay too. We are all swimming in the ocean of the unknown. Occasionally the whale lifts its head above the surface and we catch a glimpse – a moment of seeing something about ourselves that we hadn’t noticed before. Over time, many people find that this kind of awareness practice deepens their sense of aliveness and helps them notice patterns in how they relate to themselves and others. With ongoing practice, some people discover an increased capacity to be with themselves and others in a more conscious, grounded, flexible and responsive way – where we can experience ourselves as active participants in our lives rather than passive reactors to what is happening internally or around us. Both those new to Circling and those with more experience are very welcome. **To reserve your place, transfer £18 via my eventbrite page:** **[https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/robyn-wilford-29457876735](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/robyn-wilford-29457876735)** Any questions, please direct message me here or email: [robyncontact365@gmail.com](http://robyncontact365@gmail.com) **Facilitation and Terms of Service** This is a facilitated group practice but not group therapy and not psychotherapy. Because of my NARM background and own personal journey, I value personal choice, agency and emergent self-awareness. Participants are encouraged to stay connected to their own pace and to keep checking in with themselves throughout the practice – noticing what feels supportive, what feels like too much, and what they may need in any moment. There’s no expectation to be vulnerable or to share anything that feels too personal or emotional and you are always welcome to speak, remain silent, pause, step back and take a break, leave or ask for what you want, including asking for support. Participants are also invited to respect one another’s pace and boundaries. The intention of my Circling leadership is to support myself and people in staying present with their experience while in relationship with others, and to develop greater awareness of how they are meeting that experience. Having said that, like solo meditation, it’s normal that we will all repeatedly lose presence and Circling can sometimes evoke strong emotions or reactions in people which can be difficult for them and challenging for others in the space to navigate. If you find the prospect of this potentially destabilising or overwhelming, or if you are currently experiencing significant emotional distress or instability in your life that might be exacerbated by this type of group environment, or if you are unsure you’ll be able to take care of yourself and ensure the practice works for you, then please contact me before registering so we can discuss further. By registering you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the above.

Columbus Book Club: The Secret History
Columbus Book Club: The Secret History
**📔 Books and Banter: The Secret History by Donna Tartt • All Readers Welcome** Come and join us to open up a conversation about this month's pick, The Secret History by Donna Tartt with people who just enjoy a good back-and-forth, and no two nights ever play out the same. Reading ahead is great but not required, and bring whatever section you're itching to discuss, and bring your scribbled notes — because what you clocked is exactly what someone else sailed past. Everything's fair game for debate — with the discussion built entirely from what people bring, and the energy tends to build as the evening goes on. Every night is a fine first night — and the group is an easy one to slot into, all you need is yourself and an opinion, and the night usually ends with people wanting to keep going. --- **What the session looks like:** - Arrive, grab a seat, and say hi if you're new — no icebreakers, just talk - Talk opens on a first question and flows on from there, no set agenda - Near the end there's a chance to pitch the next read **What helps:** - Your copy of the book, paper or screen - Bookmarks or sticky notes on your favourite bits - Curiosity and patience for other readings - Something warm to drink if the mood takes you ⭐ *"Honestly the best hour of my month — the takes were nothing like mine, and that was the whole point"* – regular 💡 **Before you come:** mark the passage you reckon the table will pounce on, since a single flagged scene beats a vague impression, and the group makes it easy from that first line on. --- 🗯️ Come for the book, stay for the discussion — join us and bring your read and the discussion takes it from there. The talk starts when you arrive. 🗯️

We’re still working to get more people into these Meetups, but our goal is to give PlayYourCourt members a few social tennis outings each week in addition to your practice sessions and Challenge League matches. These Meetups are co-ed, super laid back, and all skill levels are welcome. Post your skill level and a suggested court in the comments section so we can round up as many players as we can for some tennis fun! Also, if you’re looking to meet new practice partners or play some matches and you aren’t already in the PlayYourCourt Community, you can go here to see what we’re all about and sign up: https://www.playyourcourt.com/tennis-community/columbus-oh/meetup/ If you love tennis, we’d love to have you! Free in-person event: Take Control of Your Mental Health
Free in-person event: Take Control of Your Mental Health
It’s time to take control of your mental health. How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind. Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself. Have you ever suffered from a traumatic experience, a deep loss or been through a painful breakup? Has your ability to communicate suffered as a result? And after that, even though you "moved on" did you find that things were never quite the same? Have you ever looked at childhood photos, or reminisced your early life and wondered where that happiness and spark went? Are your emotions out of your own control? Have you ever felt, even if you aren’t aware of it, that possibly you are getting in your own way of your happiness and success? How does this affect your self-confidence? Find out what is at the root of all stress, anxiety, depression and self-doubt. Find out how and why you hold yourself back from achieving your goals and having the life you have dreamed of. As soon as you learn what is at the root of these unwanted conditions, you’ll see it is something you can DO something about. You will not be labeled or categorized at this MeetUp.
