Humming Traditions: SODAI - Straw, Form & Wind (Sun/Star edition)

đżDate: 24th of June
đżTime: 18:00â20:30 (it might take longer, depending on group tempo)
đżLocation: DooBeeDoo Goodies Atelier (MĂ€rzstraĂe 86, 1150 Vienna)
Step into the gentle rhythm of creation and explore another expression of traditional straw art. In this special Sun/Star Edition of SODAI â Straw, Form and Wind, we will create a radiant ornament inspired by one of the oldest and most enduring symbols in Baltic folk culture: the sun.
Crafted from simple natural straw, these luminous forms have long been associated with light, vitality, protection, abundance, and the ever-turning cycle of life. Though distinct from the hanging geometry of traditional Sodai, the straw sun shares the same quiet beauty, symbolism, and connection to nature that have made straw craftsmanship a cherished tradition for generations.
In this workshop, we will learn how to prepare, shape, and assemble straw into a delicate sun or star form. Piece by piece, individual elements come together in harmonious balance, transforming humble natural materials into an ornament that feels both timeless and radiant. As your hands work with the straw, you will discover how repetition, attention, and patience can turn simple actions into a meditative and deeply rewarding creative process.
Youâll learn the fundamental techniques needed to construct the ornament while experiencing the quiet focus that traditional handcrafts naturally invite. Each step offers an opportunity to slow down, observe, and create with intention, allowing the mind to settle while the form gradually emerges.
By the end of the workshop, youâll leave with your own handmade straw sun or star, carrying both cultural heritage and your personal creative touch. More than an ornament, it becomes a symbol of warmth, light, and the timeless human desire to bring beauty and meaning into everyday life.
To keep the experience personal and attentive, the group will be small and intimate, allowing every participant to receive individual guidance and support throughout the process.
Suitable for both returning and first-time participants. While inspired by traditional Sodai craftsmanship, this workshop focuses on creating a straw sun/star ornament, a distinct form with its own symbolism and construction techniques.
This workshop invites you to slow down, focus, and reconnect, with your hands, your thoughts, and the quiet poetry of simple materials. No previous experience is needed, only patient hands, a curious mind, and an eye for quiet detail.

Humming Traditions is a series of creative workshops that explore the living, breathing essence of cultural practices. Each event invites participants to connect with ancient techniques, natural materials, and artistic expression in a hands-on, immersive experience.
The series celebrates the quiet resonance of tradition, the subtle vibrations, textures, and forms that have carried meaning through centuries. Whether through sound, movement, or craft, Humming Traditions is about experiencing culture as a living, dynamic, and tactile art form.
Each workshop stands on its own yet shares a common thread: creativity, mindfulness, and a connection to nature and heritage. Participants leave with newly learned skills, a calm mind, and a deeper appreciation for cultural artistry.

Conversational Contracts: HumanâCentered API Design with DDD and AI #meshup
In many organizations, APIs are treated as technical contracts â neat documentation of endpoints and payloads.
But what if APIs could become something more: living expressions of the business domain itself?
This talk examines how Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and modern API craftsmanship converge to establish a shared language between people and systems. Weâll walk through how techniques like Domain Storytelling, Event Storming, and Context Mapping can lead directly into OpenAPI and AsyncAPI specifications that reflect real domain intent â not just data structures.
**How can LLM help?**
Along the way, weâll see how Large Language Models (LLMs) can amplify human creativity â helping teams turn visual domain artifacts into executable API contracts while preserving intent and nuance. Instead of replacing design thinking, AI becomes a collaborator in the craftsmanship process.
Through practical examples, weâll explore how bounded contexts define API boundaries, how ubiquitous language shapes resource and event models, and how contract-first design enables safe, evolutionary change. By the end, youâll see APIs not merely as integration points, but as living domain boundaries to align architecture, business, and shared understanding.
**About the speaker**
[Annegret](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-annegret-junker-141a99a4/) is Chief Software Architect at codecentric AG in Germany. She has worked in software development for over 30 years. She worked in quite different roles and domains. She is especially interested in DDD, microservices, and everything else. She is working on a large integration project and defines APIs for partners.

Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles.
Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator.
WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion.
**FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends!
Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a âŹ6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution.
**FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.

You just havenât been able to follow through. You start things, lose momentum and find yourself starting over again. Youâre not alone.
Most people get support at the beginning. And applause at the end. But the part that actually matters? The middle. The quiet, repetitive, sometimes frustrating part where nothing feels exciting, and everything depends on showing up. **Thatâs where we are.**
At NoCrastination, we donât meet for hype. We meet to **show up and finish something, together.** Not perfectly. Not magically. Just consistently.
**What this really is**
This is a space for people who are:
* building something
* figuring things out
* or simply trying to stay on track
**without doing it alone**
You donât need to be an entrepreneur. You just need something you want to move forward.
**What happens here**
You bring something youâve been putting off. We sit down together. We focus. And you leave with something done. Thatâs it. And thatâs everything.

**What youâll get**
Not motivation. Not a productivity hack.
**Youâll get: ONE THING DONE.**
And then you come back, and do it again.
**This is how it starts**
You donât need to commit to anything big. Just come once. Pick one thing.
Finish it. Weâll be there. As weâre growing and improving the experience, weâre moving to a more structured system. Registration is part of participating.

Shut Up & Write!Âź East Side Columbus
Join us for an hour of writing! Weâve discovered that itâs strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itâs true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 11 at Streetlight Guild.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**SCHEDULE:**
6:45ish - Quick introductions
7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:00 - The End
**OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
**BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing & I look forward to seeing you at Streetlight Guild!
**WHAT SHOULD I BRING?**
Whatever you need to be able to write! You're welcome to bring earplugs/headphones if noise will bother you!
**OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:**

* **COVID:** While masks are not required, please be mindful of the other writers around you and their comfort levels.
* **WIFI/OUTLETS:** Outlets are limited, so please ensure your devices are charged when you come! But Streetlight Guild does have free WiFi! Yay!
