Some of the Beckenham & Bromley MYN group participate in a monthly Investment Club where we each contribute a virtual £25 to invest in UK equities. The meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month. The Investment Club has been running for just under 25 years, but we always welcome new or potential members. Prospective members are given up to three months to decide whether to join as active members. The choice of which virtual shares to buy, or to sell, is decided by those particpating in the meeting in a majority decision.. The meeting gives everyone a chance to discuss the stock market, the economy or anything else which members have noted could effect the share prices. Here is a recap of how the Club works: 1\. We meet every six weeks or so in or near the National Theatre\. 2\. We vote in advance and pick two articles from a short list to read before we meet\. Usually one relates to politics/current affairs and the other to history\, culture or science\. 3\. We talk about each one for around half an hour and the beauty of Article Club is that we can think more deeply about the broader themes of a topic\, and how well the article gets to grips with them\. 4\. We each give a score out of 10 for the articles that have been discussed\. 5\. We set the date for the next Article Club and sometimes adjourn to the pub\. I will post in the comments a Google form that you can use to vote for the articles you would like to read and discuss at this event. The point of Article Club is to challenge ourselves to read a diverse range of articles, share them with like-minded people and deal with our anxiety that we aren't reading books. Article Club was set up by Ross Bailey in 2015 who did a fantastic job at running it. Ross was followed by the equally fantastic Claire Ferraro and I (Alistair Baker) have been in the chair for the past seven years. You can expect a friendly introduction to the sport, but in all honesty you will dive in at the deep end to learn UWR. Please bring swimwear and an open mind and expectation to have fun. We can lend an UWR hat, snorkle, mask and fins. Although if you have them already it is better to bring your own. Expect to swim, dive to 4m depth, hold your breath longer than you thought you could, be involved in drills and games. It is full contact and you will be wrestling other players to take the ball and pass to your team or score a goal. **To kick off the weekend in style, we're excited to be bringing back one of our most unique Friday night socials... our latest Monopoly Pub Race.** If you didn't join us back in January for the last one - this team game is an exciting hybrid of a photo hunt, a pub crawl and the famous family board game, Monopoly. The game is played on a **virtual board consisting of 30 pubs** that are all within walking distance of each other in the heart of Central London. These pubs have been split into sets of 3 pubs, that have each been allocated a colour (e.g. green, red, yellow etc.) with different purchase prices, much like on a real monopoly board. The aim of the game is to race against the other teams to acquire pubs and be the first team to successfully accumulate two complete sets. In order to claim a property, your team will need to visit a pub on the board and at least one member of your team must order a drink in the pub to purchase the property. But this game isn't just about speed - it's about strategy as you will also be able to tactically “steal” properties from your rivals, as well as hinder them in their attempts to create sets. And over the course of the game, you will be able to monitor the live board to help you track your progress, spot opportunities, and keep a watchful eye on your competitors. If there is no clear winner when the time runs out, the team with the highest total property value will be crowned the champions, with great prizes up for grabs. Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking is available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details: IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. We’ll be playing for about 1.5 to 2 hours, you do not need to bring any equipment, and no experience is needed. If you can't make the hike, we should be there by noon. **How to find our starting point in Big Meadows:** If you are new to Highbanks, the Big Meadows picnic area is 1.5 miles into the park just after you turn into the park off of U.S. Route 23. That is, after you enter the park, drive a mile and a half into the park. You will come to a crosswalk with a yield sign in the middle of it (this is not to be confused with the first such crosswalk you come to just in front of the Nature Center, which you arrive at maybe a quarter of a mile into the park). Just after this second crosswalk, make a left. Then make another almost immediate left into the parking lot on your left. There you will see the jungle gym and the kiddie zip line to your left. I will be just in front of the restrooms just a bit further down from the jungle gym and picnic shelter; the restroom building will also be on your left.
