The fantastic leisure centre at Marshall Street in Soho, London. These facilities are perfect for our group as it is very central and the facility has just been refurbished. These facilities are perfect for any introduction to diving. The pool depths range from 1 metre to 3 metres which is sufficient for all diving training requirements. Our central London dive courses take place just behind London's iconic Carnaby Street in the state-of-the-art £38m Marshall Street leisure centre, containing arguably the finest pool in central London.
This 30m long pool gives students tonnes of room to swim around in, practice their skills and fine tune their buoyancy. The pool is constantly heated to 27 degrees celsius and has a study conference room.

PADI DISCOVER SCUBA - £60.00
A try dive is also available which is a taster dive so you can briefly experience being underwater with the equipment. Have ever wondered what it's like to breathe underwater? This is an ideal way of experiencing the under water world without having to commit to a PADI course like for example the PADI Open Water. You will be assisted by excellent qualified instructors who are trained to offer you the best experience and make you feel comfortable in the water allowing you to enjoy the experience. During the scuba diving try dive experience you'll learn how to use scuba equipment in a warm pool and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It is the perfect preparation for the PADI Open Water Course. You learn the basics you need to dive under the direct supervision of one of our PADI Professionals. Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to glide around underwater while wearing it.
Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step. All the equipment you will need is included in a Discover Scuba Diving experience.
PADI REFRESHER DIVE/REVIEW - £100.00
If you are looking to go on holiday soon and have not dived for over a year then you will want to consider completing a scuba diving refresher course. This course will give you the confidence again prior to any planned holiday. If you havenāt dived for a while, or are a bit apprehensive about getting back in the water and want to freshen up your skills then a PADI Scuba Review is for you. Most dive centres around the world will insist that you complete a Scuba Review if you haven't dived for 12 months or longer. The course normally takes 3-4 hours. Please remember to bring along your PADI certification card and log book.
PADI REACTIVE ā This is the full PADI Refresher which includes refreshing of the theory as well. This is available at Ā£175.00 and includes refreshing of all the dive skills and also the PADI theory refresh.
POOL SESSION - £30.00
If you are looking to just spend time in the water and you are already qualified as PADI Open Water then you can join us for this session and spend time in the pool testing out kit and practicing. This way you will not have the pressure of group holiday diving and you can have around 1 hour 30 minutes to do what you want.
If you want to undertake any of the above dives then RSVP and let me know which dive you want. All dives will need to be booked in by us and paid for so payment will be requested prior to the event itself once dive has been confirmed.

Free Tai Chi for Fitness, Fun and Wellbeing
We start with warm up exercises. These are gentle movements and stretching from Qi Gong. We then proceed through the Tai Chi Form (short-form Yang style), usually at an easy pace, but with continous repetition. You need to wear loose clothing that allows body movement. The sessions end with some more Qi Gong meditations. Tea and Coffee is available. Please RSVP if you are going to attend, so as we have some idea about numbers.

Join us for this classic walk in the **South Downs National Park.**
This is one of the most magnificent and justifiably well-known **13-mile walk** along the **South Downs way**. This is the classic version of the Seven Sisters starting from Eastbourne ending in Seaford.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO TAKE PART?
You just need to RSVP using the button on this page, and show up on Sunday. That is true for both DMs and players.
You must be 18+ to attend.
If this is your first time or looking to join a game, please find the Sunday Hosts Edward or Jason on your arrival. We will point you towards a game you can join.
There is no charge, membership fee or subscription. However, a collection tin may be circulated by the Organiser/Assistant Organiser/Host towards the running of the Meetup. There is a recommended donation of £2 cash per attendee (DM or player), but contributions are purely voluntary: you are under no obligation. We do not track or record who donates what

Please ensure you arrive between 12:30pm and 1.00pm. **If you arrive later than 1pm, it may not be possible to find you a game.**
I'VE NEVER PLAYED BEFORE, IS THAT A PROBLEM?
Nope! You do not have to have previous experience of D&D or another tabletop role-playing game. We will have newbie-friendly games on Sunday.
WHAT DO I HAVE TO BRING?
Nothing. If you have dice, paper and pencil, and a Playerās Handbook, then bring them, but itās not a problem if you donāt. We can lend you everything you need including a pre-generated character.
I'M NOT FROM THE UK, THAT ISN'T A PROBLEM, RIGHT?
Actually, we have loads of members from other countries; at times, weāve had more ex-pats than Brits. We get a lot of people joining whoāve just moved to London from another country, left their old D&D friends behind, and who are looking for a new gaming group, so you donāt need to worry about not fitting in.
The one catch is that your English does need to be OK. You don't have to be perfectly fluent, but roleplayingās a language-based activity and if your listening isn't decent you may have trouble following whatās going on. Lots of our members speak more than one language, but we can't guarantee that we can place you in a game with someone who can interpret for you.

HYGIENE & ANTI-COVID GUIDELINES
If you are symptomatically ill or suspect/know you have caught covid in the last 10 days but are asymptomatic, please do NOT attend.
Please wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth and/or a face shield whenever possible. This is not a rule, merely a request.
Please wash your hands and/or use hand sanitiser gel frequently.

**VENUES AND MONEY MATTERS**
**The venues are businesses and, as such, rely on us spending on food and drink while we are there**. Our continued use of the venues is dependent upon it. Please spend as much as you reasonably can; if you are thinking of having lunch at your venue, please do. The venues have vegetarian and vegan options.
Please do NOT bring drink from outside except tap water in a transparent plastic bottle. Please do NOT bring food from outside. Bringing food or drink (except tap water) from outside can result in you being permanently banned by the venue's management.
Guide dogs are absolutely fine. Other dogs and pets may not be permitted subject to the discretion of the Pub Staff & Organisers.

This month we're celebrating the TENTH anniversary of the London Fabric User Group - having started life as the London Power BI User Group TEN years ago.

**Power BI under the bonnet**: monitoring queries and refreshes using Workspace Monitoring, Log Analytics, Profiler and DAX Studio
When you're performance tuning a slow Power BI report or refresh you need to know what happens inside the engine, and the good news is that the Power BI engine can give you all kinds of detailed information on its internals. But how do you get access to this? How can you understand it? In this session you'll find out: how you can get (almost) the same information on internals from Workspace Monitoring, Log Analytics, SQL Server Profiler and DAX Studio and when to use which; which engine events are relevant to queries and which ones are relevant to refreshes; and how you can interpret this information for tuning.

**HIKE GRADES**
You will have a choice of hikes, ranging from [Moderate to Energetic](https://www.aaahiking.co.uk/hike-grade). When we have three or more leaders, we also offer [Challenging](https://www.aaahiking.co.uk/hike-grade) routes.
Our leaders are experienced in navigation and group leading, and all are trained in wilderness first aid.
Hikes vary in length: shorter options are around 15 km, while longer, more demanding ones go up to 25 km+. We'll tailor the routes to the weather on the day and confirm choices accordingly.

**ACCOMMODATION**
We rented Private Kings Hostel, set in its own wooded ravine, on the river meadow just for our group.
This is a very popular venue; we may hike up to Cadair Idris from a doorstep. There is a fire pit we can sit by in the evening.
Accommodation is in male and female rooms for 6 people.
When we are full, you may camp for half price on a field by the river.
**FOOD**
All meals are included and prepared fresh on siteāour famous AAA home cooking! We always offer vegan and vegetarian options.
Feel free to bring your own alcoholic drinks and snacks. There's no need to budget for eating out; everything is coveredāno restaurant trips or pub meals required.

THE MULLERTHAL - LUXEMBOURG'S LITTLE SWITZERLAND (BANK HOLIDAY)
**Backabush is heading off over the late May bank holiday weekend to hike the magical region of the Mullerthal, often referred to as Luxembourg's Little Switzerland!**
Cost - £339 per person in small twin share room or £409 single occupancy. Group size - 18. Accommodation (4 nights) - Holiday cabins.
The Mullerthal region of Luxembourg is delightful landscape of ancient forests and rolling hills criss-crossed by fast flowing streams which cut deep and narrow gorges. The sandstone geology is peppered with caves, ravines and mysterious rock formations
**ACCOMMODATION:**
We will stay in comfortable holiday cabins with self catering kitchens and twin share or single occupancy bedrooms. Located in lovely little Berdorf village we are perfectly located to explore this magical region.
Our accommodation is situated only 6km from the medieval town of Echternach, on a vast plateaux above the valleys of the Black Ernz, the Sure and the Aesbach forest.

**ITINERARY:**
Friday 22 May - We will meet at the accommodation and can check in from anytime from 3PM.
Saturday 23 May - Section of the Mullerthal Trail Route 1.
This hike interweaves various elements of the beautiful landscape. Rocks, forests, sweeping views and meadows will offer us a delightful outdoor experience.
Sunday 24 May - Section of the Mullerthal Trail Route 2.
Today's hike leads us deep into the heart of Luxembourg's Little Switzerland and presents spectacular rock formations that fire the imagination.
Monday 25 May - Section of the Mullerthal Trail Route 3.
Our final hiking day reveals enormous rock formations and enchants with picturesque stream valleys and romantic castles.
Tuesday 26 May - We need to check out of the cabins by 10AM.
*Hiking plans may need to be altered depending on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.*
**DIFFICULTY:**
A moderate level of hiking fitness is required to cross terrain that will be uneven and rocky in places. We may be hiking over 12 miles with over 600m of cumulative ascent.
**WHAT IS INCLUDED:**
- 4 nights twin-share or single occupancy accommodation in holiday cabins shared between 3 people in each cabin.
- A full itinerary of hikes.
- Trip organiser. Mountain Leader and outdoor first aid certified.
- Financial protection in accordance with the Package Travel Law 2018.

- Meals. Our holiday cabins have self catering kitchens plus there are also restaurants, cafes and a supermarket in the area.

**RECOMMENDED FLIGHTS:**
There are numerous convenient flights to Luxembourg from multiple London airports (Heathrow, City and Stansted) with British Airways, Luxair and Ryanair. Please use Skyscanner to find the most suitable flights for you.
Public transport is free in Luxembourg and it will be easy to take the bus from Luxembourg Airport to our accommodation in Berdorf (we will share detailed travel information closer to the date).

Trails & Ales! Blendon Woods Metro Park / Forbidden Root Restaurant & Brewery
**History**
The history of [Blendon Woods Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/blendon-woods/) began long before its 1951 opening, rooted in a landscape of rugged ridges and deep ravines that made the land unsuitable for traditional farming. In 1945, a report proposing a metropolitan park system for Franklin County specifically highlighted these cliffs of Bedford Shale as some of the "wildest land in the vicinity". Following this recommendation, the recently formed park district purchased the first 229 acres in early 1949. Because the terrain was so uneven, developers had to cut a mile-and-a-half-long roadway through dense woods just to bring in heavy equipment. This initial preservation effort ensured that the mature second-growth hardwood forests remained largely untouched by the urban expansion spreading toward Westerville.
Opening day arrived on Labor Day, September 3, 1951, marking Blendon Woods as the second park in the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks system. The final push to open was a frantic race; the State Highway Department only finished the primary gravel access road four days before the gates opened. Early staff members, consisting of just four full-time employees, had to hand-dig pit toilets and learn construction skills on the fly to build the first picnic shelters. Despite the dusty conditions and limited facilities, the park was an immediate success, drawing massive crowds from across Central Ohio. By the end of the 1950s, annual visitation had already climbed to over 190,000 people.
As the surrounding suburbs grew in the 1960s, the park faced severe overcrowding that threatened its natural habitats. In response, Franklin County voters passed the first Metro Parks levy in 1960, providing the funds necessary for a decade of steady expansion. During this era, the park nearly doubled in size, growing from 264 acres to over 570 acres by 1968. Planners also addressed a critical water shortage by collaborating with the U.S. Soil and Conservation Service to build a lake in 1964. This body of water originally served as a temporary reservoir before its role shifted toward conservation and wildlife support.
The 1970s marked a transition toward the specialized wildlife and educational focus for which the park is known today. In 1971, the Walden Waterfowl Refuge was established around the 11-acre Thoreau Lake, creating a sanctuary that remains restricted to provide a quiet habitat for migratory birds. A formal nature center was also developed during this period, expanding on the guided Sunday walks that had been a park staple since the early 1950s. The parkās famous "Monarch Mansion" also became a prominent fixture, starting a long tradition of raising and releasing thousands of monarch butterflies each September. These initiatives cemented the parkās reputation as a premier destination for birders and nature enthusiasts.
In more recent decades, Blendon Woods has continued to modernize while maintaining its wilderness character. The 10-acre Natural Play Area was added in 2017, encouraging kids to explore the ravines and woods off-trail. This was followed by the opening of a $1.5 million inclusive playground in April 2025, designed to accommodate children of all physical abilities. The nature center also underwent major renovations to include immersive, three-dimensional exhibits and a new butterfly house. Today, the park encompasses 653 acres, preserving a unique geologic and biological corridor amidst the bustling Westerville and Northeast Columbus area.

**Summary**
For this event, we will hike the Lake View, Hickory Ridge, Ripple Rock, Overlook, Brookside, and Sugarbush Trails. This sounds like a lot, but it will really be only a little over five miles. Blendon Woods has a few hills here and there, but it's not one of the more strenuous metro parks.
**Where We'll Meet**
We'll meet just in front of the Nature Center. This is about a mile into the park from the main entrance. You have to go past the Ranger Station and the Shadblow Reservable Area to get to it, so don't stop too early at the Ranger Station and get it confused with the Nature Center.
