Hike along the frozen Baltic Sea at Usedom; 13 km to 23 km hike
Hike along the frozen Baltic Sea at Usedom; 13 km to 23 km hike
The German Baltic Sea coast was recently in the news a bit, as [the open Baltic Sea has frozen](https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/mecklenburg-vorpommern/frostig-selten-wunderschoen-ostsee-und-bodden-im-eis-erstarrt,ostseeeis-102.html) some points. While Brandenburg gets some thawing weather the next few days, the northern part of Meck-Pomm still seems to balance a bit below zero for the next few days. Thus, hopefully, the spectacular icy sea can be still seen. So, let's take a tour to the beach! Swimwear is not required this time; thermal underwear could be more appropriate. More specifically, we will go to the island Usedom and walk from Zemplin eastwards along the beach. I cannot really anticipate the conditions there; there is the chance that it will be very difficult to walk due to icy grounds, but it might be also just fine. Also, I cannot anticipate how cold it will feel in the wind coming from the sea. Thus we have to be a bit flexible regarding the hiking plan, we might be able to do a long hike, but possibly we also need to shorten it and maybe have a Glühwein in one of the towns there. We will meet on Saturday at 11:53 at the train station Zempin on the island Usedom. The easiest way to get there is this connection: \- 8:23 RE 3 from Berlin Hbf to Angermünde\. \- 9:31 RE 30 from Angermünde to Züssow \- 11:10 RB 23 from Züssow to Zempin We will end our hike either in Heringsdorf or in one of the towns before. From there, we will depart around 18:30 back to Berlin; arrival in Berlin will be around 22:30. Important things to note: * This is an easy hike on advanced underground. You should wear proper non slippery hiking shoes which can withstand wet grounds. * It will be cold on the weekend. Expect freezing temperatures. Snow and ice is possible. * You are all responsible for yourself. None of us is mountain guide or something like that. * There won't be too many Späties at the beach, so have enough water and food with you. * Please note that the number of participants is limited, because at a certain size a group gets virtually unmanageable. As the demand may be higher than the number of available spots, please be fair and only RSVP if you are sure that you can make it. If you learn later that you cannot take part, please update your RSVP accordingly.

**World Travelling** with *Jorge De Hoyos* for **LGBTQIA+ people** **[Free event with registration](https://wearevillage.org/en/shop/queer-images/w06-2026)** This movement class deals with portals, (other)worldly dimensions, and training our capacities to deep dive into our “selves” (real and imagined), teleport into not-yet-known states of being, and adapt like sci-fi ninja-dancer pioneers! No dance experience is necessary, but a willingness to get out of comfort zones and into the unknowable (meta)physical is required. There will be body contact, emotional and energetic states, and lots of moving in ways you can’t really preconceive. It’s inspired by an old project called “Many Lives” which is like living life but many of them at once. All bodies and lives are welcome! **General Information** Language: we’ll speak English and/or German, depending on the needs of the group. Cost: free event with registration \*\* This event is part of the we are village program ‘Belonging versus Lonelines‘, with the support of LADS. Contra dance Feb. 21 (First Unitarian Universalist Church) note new time!
# **Band: Old Possum's Menagerie; Caller: Richard Ades** Beginner lesson at 1:30, regular dancing begins at 2:00 pm NOTE THAT WE ARE TEMPORARILY DANCING IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD OF EVENING. Dance with us in the afternoon then you can still go out in the evening! **Sponsor: All Soles Contra and Square Dancing, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd., Columbus OH 43214** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. Please bring your own refillable water bottle.
