The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Redundancy: a "mostly harmless" survival manual
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Redundancy: a "mostly harmless" survival manual
🛸🛸 **The Hitchhiker's guide to redundancy: a 'mostly harmless' manual for surviving the professional void** 🛸🛸 What do you do when your career is unexpectedly demolished to make way for a corporate bypass? Too many professionals treat redundancy like the end of the universe, spiralling into the bureaucratic nebula of unemployment without a map. This session chronicles a six-month odyssey through the unknown, transforming a vulnerable period of professional upheaval into a practical, comedic survival guide. **What you’ll hear:** ✨ **How not to panic:** How to steady your ship when the corporate ground disappears beneath you ✨ **What to pack:** Cultivating the core resilience and mindsets needed to navigate sudden career transitions ✨ **Deploying your networking Babel Fish:** Translating your experience into a language the market actually understands ✨ **Navigating the bureaucratic nebula:** Managing the identity shift, the job search logistics, and the administrative void without losing your sanity ✨ **Embarking on your next chapter:** Turning an unexpected full stop into a launching pad for a career that actually fits your trajectory As long as you're packing resilience to brace the knocks (and your sense of humour), you’ll never truly be lost in space. A vulnerable, funny, and no-BS roadmap to surviving the void and finding your way back to solid ground. **👍🏼 The Speaker** ✨ **Alex Clarke** is a Product and UX designer with over 8 years of experience, who after spending years building a successful professional track record, found himself facing the ultimate corporate plot twist: sudden redundancy. Alex’s story is a highly common and relevant reality for many professionals today, as organisations face mounting economic pressures to cut costs and restructure. Alex speaks candidly, sharing raw, hilarious and deeply practical truths about what it takes to pivot after a setback. By turning his own unexpected transition into a survival guide for the current job market, Alex proves that losing a job doesn't mean losing your direction. Alex’s story has a happy ending too- as he’s happily found a new job as an Incubation Designer for Coles. Down, down, prices are down. Please. 🙏 📌 **The details:** * **Date:** 6 pm, 11 June * **Host:** Melbourne Design Thinking Meetup * **Special Guests:** Alex Clarke * **Refreshments included:** Pizza and fizz!
Melbourne Biz Apps User Group | Launch Event
Melbourne Biz Apps User Group | Launch Event
**Join us at the Melbourne Biz Apps User Group: Launch Event!** 🎉 We've been working hard behind the scenes, and the day is finally here. Come celebrate the launch of Melbourne's newest Biz Apps community with us. **🎤 Featured Session: Vendor Onboarding Agent with Copilot Studio** *Presented by Dharanidharan - Microsoft MVP, Engineering Lead* Vendor onboarding is one of those processes that quietly eats hours — manual document checks, back-and-forth approvals, risk assessments done in spreadsheets. There's a better way. Dharanidharan will walk us through how to build an enterprise-grade AI agent that handles vendor onboarding end-to-end, from document upload through to automated risk assessment and manager and compliance approvals. Everything tracked. Everything auditable. **Built using:** * Copilot Studio for conversational onboarding * AI Builder for automated document extraction * Power Automate for risk scoring and approvals * Dataverse and model-driven apps for full auditability This is a reusable pattern for anyone working with document-heavy, compliance-driven processes. Real architecture. Real implementation. **⚡ AI Bytes** Before we dive in, we've got some fun community activities lined up to get you inspired, warmed up, and ready to geek out. Come ready to participate! **🍕 Food, Drinks and Networking** Good food, good drinks, and good people, and we'll have plenty of time on the night to mingle, connect, and meet your fellow Biz Apps practitioners in Melbourne. **This event is for you if you:** * Work in Power Platform, Dynamics 365, or Copilot Studio * Want to see how AI agents are being built in the real world * Are curious about intelligent automation at enterprise scale * Just want to meet other Biz Apps practitioners in Melbourne We can't wait to see you there! 🙌
The Creative Hustle: Monthly Community Drinks For Creative Professionals
The Creative Hustle: Monthly Community Drinks For Creative Professionals
Join us at our monthly networking drinks in May at our new venue, **Village Belle, St Kilda.** *(Please note a ticket is now required to attend this event, these can be purchased via this link [here](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/social-drinks-for-creative-professionals-tickets-1989803804744?aff=oddtdtcreator&keep_tld=true)). You can read more on this below.* Welcoming all professional visionaries, creators and artists in the Melbourne entrepreneur and creative scene. You may be a musician, writer, photographer, designer, model, dancer, comedian or perhaps you run a business in the creative field or anything in between. The Creative Hustle is a social events group aimed at providing a hub for the professional artists, creatives and entrepreneurs of the Melbourne creative and arts scenes! **(Please only attend if you fall in to these categories! There are plenty of other social meetups for people who do not have a creative hustle.)** You know those conversations that just light you up? Make you remember why you started this journey and inspire you? This is where you’ll find them. This group is more than just networking, it’s about meeting people who are on a similar journey to you where you can share your experiences to support each other, make genuine friends and perhaps find some people to collaborate with too! Creativity can be bombarded by digital interactions, and require us to spend hours alone to work on our craft, often leading many people to mental health issues and feelings of isolation and loneliness. The Creative Hustle believes in the power of genuine friendships and human connection. As creatives, we know that some of our greatest inspirations and collaborations stem from the bonds we form with one another. This group is equally about social networking as it is business. It’s time to stretch outside the comfort zone to forge new pathways in your profession all while building lasting friendships that enrich our lives in ways that only real connections can. **NOTE ON TICKETS:** I have always run Creative Hustle events for the last 3 years+ for free, and my mission has always been to keep them accessible for creatives. However I sacrifice time away from clients on Thursday nights, meaning that whilst keeping it accessible for others I haven't been able to keep it viable for myself. Moving forward, to keep it viable, cover costs of running the event, book better venues, help manage numbers and continue to attract people who are serious about what they do, I will be introducing a small fee. For this event your $20 ticket gets you a drink on entry (most house beer, wines and spirits are about $14-$15 at Village Belle) and the rest will be split across the above. Thank you for your understanding! This format is very loose! Sometimes we follow, sometimes we let the conversation flow - it largely depends on sound levels at the venue: 15 min - General networking & social chat 30 min - 45 min - Round table intros: space for each person to share their creative endeavour for 1 min 15 min - Conversation & discussion cues (let’s chat on some deep topics with a stranger ) 15 min - general networking & social chat I’m excited to meet you all! I know that coming to a meetup and meeting new people can feel scary for some people but we are a very welcoming and open group and can’t wait to meet new people. Most people that come to our events don’t know anyone! Life is better with great people in it! Shoot me a message if you have any questions or just want a point of contact before your first meetup **Definition of a Creative Hustle:** Something that you are pursuing either as a side business, full time business or professional/semi professional that involves you creating something from nothing. If you are a: Musician, Dancer, Fashion Designer, Photographer, Videographer, Graphic Designer, Actor, Interior Designer, freelancer, business owner, work for a company within the arts industry, or anything else I have missed that qualifies as creative, then this Meetup is for you. Please respect that this is a group for people who put their heart and souls in to their work, and not just a group anyone can come to for networking unless you fall into the above categories. Please message if unsure. Look forward to meeting you at our next event! \*\*\* **CODE OF CONDUCT:** 1. You have a creative hustle which means you are pursuing something which requires you to create, and you are pursuing this professionally as your full time business, side business, you work in a creative industry or because you love it. 2. All members will show respect to other members and patrons in the meetup/event/venue. Respect can be shown by not boxing people out of conversations, welcoming all new and old members, not continuously interrupting people, not continuously speaking over the top of others, respecting someone’s personal space and boundaries. 3. You must consider others in conversation and ensure it is two-sided, you may equally talk about your creative hustle as much as you are willing to ask somebody about theirs. 4. We encourage each other on our journeys and ask someone if they are open to advice before giving it. No one likes being told what they should do! 5. This is not a group or event to be used for dating. Contacts can be made on the basis of friendship or networking. 6. If anyone is made to feel uncomfortable for any of the above reasons, they should contact me directly. 7. People will not attend who are unwell, even if it is just a cold. People in this group rely on their health to show up to self-employed work, please do not put that at risk by showing up unwell. 8. Anyone who is understood to be breaching any of the above rules may be removed or banned from the group within reason. Some people may be given a warning, or if more serious, no warning will be given and people will be instantly removed. Thank you all for your understanding and I look forward to seeing you at the next event.

JustUs: The Page Turners Book Club
Our book club is designed for disabled adults who enjoy reading and thoughtful discussion. The club explores a range of accessible books across different genres throughout the year. Each month, members read an assigned book and receive a small set of questions to think about while reading. When the group meets, discussion is open and welcoming, encouraging participants to share their ideas and interpretations. The focus is not only on reading, but on learning how to engage with stories, exploring characters, themes and different perspectives while building confidence in discussions. Our first book is **Gregor the Overlander**, a fast-paced adventure about family, responsibility, and being pulled into a world you don’t understand. It’s an accessible, engaging story that gives us plenty to explore together through discussion and shared thinking. **Themes:** Responsibility & growing up, war & violence, family & belonging **Trigger warnings:** * **Graphic:** Death, Violence, Animal death * **Moderate:** War, Death of parent, Injury/Injury detail * **Minor:** Dementia, Torture, Confinement
Golang June @ Atlassian
Golang June @ Atlassian
Hi Gophers! We're at Atlassian this June to talk carbon footprint calculations for Claude and building a custom Kubernetes PaaS in Go. * **Agenda** **5.45pm — Food & Networking** **6:30pm — Intro** **6:45pm — Talks** **8.00pm — Wrap up then head out for kick ons** * **Talks** **🎤 Mia de Búrca** **What I Learnt Writing a Carbon Awareness Skill for Claude** (short talk) Having recently left my senior IC job in tech, I wanted to take some time to pursue green software principles, in **particular** how they apply to our use of AI. Since I'm an engineer, and engineers learn by doing; I decided to build an MCP server using sustainable software practices, and have it serve up a skill that would let an LLM ask what **its** carbon footprint had been for the conversation so far. The talk describes what I built and why, and how the implementation **and** infrastructure were a breeze **compared** to finding some real numbers to back up the carbon equivalence calculation. **🎤 Ryan Djurovich** **How I built Podplane - an Open Source PaaS running Kubernetes on Object Storage** About Podplane: Want to deploy your app easily and securely on AWS, Google Cloud, or Proxmox? Podplane is an Open Source Platform-as-a-Service built on Kubernetes with all state stored in Object Storage. It consists of a CLI, etcd alternative ([netsy.dev](http://netsy.dev)), auth server ([easy-oidc.dev](http://easy-oidc.dev)), and next-gen auto-scaler ([nstance.dev](http://nstance.dev)) - all written in Go. \* **Interested in speaking at an upcoming event?** We will aim to have a mix of short (\~10min) and in-depth (20-30min) talks. If you’re keen to give a talk on a topic, share a project, or idea, please let us know [bit.ly/GolangMelbourneSpeakersForm](https://bit.ly/GolangMelbourneSpeakersForm)

Girl Focus Group - Intentional Relationships
Girl Focus Group - Intentional Relationships
I'm hoping I can put together a small, curated group of women in committed relationships who are intentional about the life they're building. I'm putting myself out there — I'm building something (an app) designed for committed and pro-active couples. I am really excited about the idea, but before I build more I want to sit down with real people and hear what they actually think. I have a list questions that I want to talk through it together as a group, and I genuinely want your honest feedback — the good, the bad, and the "have you thought about this?" moments. Brighton library. 6 girls. 1 hour. Coffee on me. If you're the kind of person who thinks about your relationship proactively — not because anything's wrong, but because it matters — I want to meet you. You'll also get to meet other local girls who are in committed relationships and think the same way. That overlap alone I feel is worth showing up for. My name is Veronika, I'm 25. My partner is Gabriel. We've been together four years and we live in the Bayside area. I love goal setting and living intentionally and this is me putting myself out there — and I'd love to meet you. If this sounds like your kind of afternoon, please join below.

June 14 | Blackwood Social - Afternoon Drinks for Singles | Windsor
✨ **KISMETRIX \| True Connection** [Ticketed Event](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/june-14-blackwood-social-afternoon-drinks-for-singles-windsor-tickets-1990554475019) ### **Blackwood Social - Afternoon Drinks for Singles** **📍 Blackwoods Wine & Cocktail Bar — 137 Chapel Street, Windsor** **📅 Sunday, 14 June 2026 · 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM** **🥂 Standard drink on arrival included** **Somewhere along the way, meeting people got lonely.** The apps turned connection into a catalogue. The bar scene stopped feeling worth it. Your social circle calcified in your late twenties and nobody told you how to crack it back open. You're not anti-social. You're not too picky. You're just waiting for a room that actually feels worth walking into. This is that room. #### BLACKWOOD SOCIAL Kismetrix doesn't run singles nights. We build the kind of afternoon where you walk in not knowing a soul — and walk out wondering why Sunday ever looked like anything else. Blackwoods Wine & Cocktail Bar in Windsor is the setting. Unhurried. Intimate. The kind of place that makes conversation feel easy before you've even tried. Our host will be there from the moment you arrive — not to run activities or move you around the room, but to make sure nobody spends their first five minutes standing alone wondering if they've made a mistake. You haven't. We've got you. Name tags on. Guard down. Drink in hand. See what happens. #### WHO THIS IS FOR Professionals and creatives aged 28–42 who are socially confident but privately a little tired of how hard it's become to meet people who actually get it. People who want a relationship, or a friend, or just proof that their city still has interesting humans in it. Most guests come alone. That's not the exception here — that's the point. #### WHAT YOU'RE WALKING INTO 🥂 Standard drink waiting for you on arrival 🍸 Full cocktail and wine menu at one of Windsor's best bars 👋 Name tags — because remembering someone's name is the beginning of everything 🤝 A host who genuinely cares how you feel in the room 📍 Cosy indoors + heated courtyard out back #### WHAT PEOPLE LEAVE WITH Sometimes it's a number. Sometimes it's a new regular at your table. Sometimes it's just the feeling — quiet but real — that your people are out there and you've started finding them. Kismetrix is where that starts. #### TICKETS - [Book Here](https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/june-14-blackwood-social-afternoon-drinks-for-singles-windsor-tickets-1990554475019) 🌿 Early Bird — $29 (first to go — always) 🌿 Standard — $45 Early bird pricing won't last. Grab yours before it moves. #### IMPORTANT NOTES 🎯 This is a hosted social experience — not speed dating 🎯 A welcome drink is included; additional drinks and food are available at the venue 🎯 Gender balance is carefully aimed for but not always guaranteed 🎯 Respect, boundaries, and good energy are essential at all Kismetrix events 🎯 Tickets are non-refundable but transferable KISMETRIX reserves the right to manage attendance and participation, including declining or removing entry where necessary, to ensure a positive and respectful experience for all guests. #### ABOUT KISMETRIX Kismetrix is Melbourne's premium real-life connection experience — built on the belief that the most important relationships in your life will not begin with a swipe. Every event is intentionally designed, warmly hosted, and quietly obsessed with how it feels to be in the room. We're building something bigger than events. Kismetrix has teamed up with **Pun & Gainz** — Melbourne-based personal trainers who believe fitness is as much about community as it is about movement — for our first ever **Run Club Social** at the beautiful Albert Park Lake. Come solo — most people do. #### **✨ ABOUT THE COLLABORATION** Pun & Gainz are Melbourne personal trainers who bring energy, expertise, and genuine warmth to every session. They believe the best workouts happen when people feel good together — and that's exactly what Kismetrix is built on. Two communities. One Sunday morning. Over a billion documents processed. Millions of Veterans impacted. Hundreds of thousands of employee hours saved. Faster decisions. Greater accuracy. More benefits in the hands of our disabled Veterans. We created Smart Search, the world’s largest consumer of Amazon Textract, right when GenAI began reshaping what’s possible. Since then, we’ve built a suite of AI‑driven solutions that transform this data into real, measurable outcomes—accelerating benefits decisions for our Nation’s Veterans. Join us for a focused conversation on how an outcome‑driven approach to AI is helping us boost accuracy, streamline workflows, and deliver faster results for those who have served. This is a follow up to the AWS re:Invent 2023 "Intelligent Document Processing with Gen AI for Public Sector" presentation. Free In-Person Meeting: Get Over Losses & Betrayals, Build Lasting Relationships
Free In-Person Meeting: Get Over Losses & Betrayals, Build Lasting Relationships
This is a free, in-person meeting on the subject of betrayals, losses and how to get over them so you can build lasting relationships. Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse. Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well. Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship. Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action? Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships! Break free from self imposed limitations Here we will discuss: • How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes. • Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you? • Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it? • Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love? • Fights & arguments - what's really behind them? • What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others? • How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change? • Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them? • How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about? • How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career? Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general. Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person. Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life. We look forward to having you join us! This class is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.

Battle of the personal agents
Battle of the personal agents
Join the Columbus AI community for a special event. **Battle of the Personal Agents** is your chance to see what people are actually building with AI agents and personal automation systems. Whether you’re running OpenClaw, Hermes, or a completely custom solution, bring your agent and show the community how it works. We’re interested in real-world implementations: the problems your agent solves, how you use it day-to-day, how it’s hosted and managed, how you built it, and why you’ve chosen to keep using it. Live demonstrations are encouraged, so be prepared to show your code, architecture, workflows, and your agent performing real tasks. This is less about polished presentations and more about sharing practical experience, comparing approaches, and learning from one another. If you’d like to present, please contact Chris Slee (via meetup) before the event so we can allocate enough time for everyone’s demonstrations. Come ready to show what you’ve built, discover what others are doing, and maybe find a few ideas worth taking home. Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
