Bachata originated in the Dominican Republic, Bachata is popular, fun and easy to learn. Our authentic international Bachata instructors teach with “mucho” enthusiasm & “tremendo” flow. A great space to meet fun and friendly people. DANCE CLASSES: BACHATA – Beginner Level 7.00 pm (Suggested duration 3 months) Fundamentals of Bachata Learn how to connect with any dance partner through basic body movement and weight transfer by exploring core bachata concepts like leading and following, Latin dance technique, social dance etiquette and more! BACHATA – Intermediate Level 7.00 pm (Suggested duration 6- 12 months) MODERN BACHATA Master intricate bachata partner work, syncopations, followers styling, various turn patterns and more. We will make sure you obtain all the skills you need to shine on the dance floor! Never been to one of our meet-ups before? Been a member for a while or just joined? Either way this is the social for you! Once a month we hold a special meet-up to welcome in new members. Regulars are encouraged to attend and help new members have a fun night out! Our monthly “newbie” social is an opportunity to learn about our groups, events held and resources to help members. More importantly it is an opportunity to meet others going through separation & divorce in a safe and friendly environment. We can all learn from each other, but the primary aim of the socials is to enjoy ourselves! Our socials are hosted by members of the Divorce Support & Social Group and the Melbourne Divorce Support Group. We pay for own food and drinks individually. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
