See you there!
Dutch border hike (Knokke-Sluis, 24km)
The weather forecast for Saturday looks dry. Since Maikel is not available in the coming weeks, I will start to organize some hikes again.
On Saturday I suggest a Dutch border hike on the Belgian coast. We start in Knokke and we will walk along the coast for a while. On the way we will pass by the Zwin reserve, where we might spot large flocks of birds. However, we won't enter the reserve itself, because a ticket costs 12 euro. Halfway the hike we cross the Dutch border. We will then follow a couple of typical Dutch canals till we arrive in the lovely Dutch town Sluis, which features many bars and restaurants. In Sluis we take the bus back to Bruges, for a connecting train.
As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 4 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. I’ve not tested this track beforehand, so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning (i.e. it may become longer ;-).
**Important: from Sluis we take a "De Lijn" bus back to Bruges. Please make sure that you know how to buy a ticket. You cannot pay cash in the bus.**
●●You can find the track here:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1B7o-K8ssWTUr0ho9w23hFPuAaP4Yioo&usp=sharing
●●Meeting point:
We meet at 10h15 in Knokke (in front of the railway station). If you start from Brussels-South, you should take train IC 2830 towards Knokke at 08h51. I am starting from Ghent, so I will jump on the train in Ghent. You can find me in the first car of the train.
●● Train tickets:
Two separate tickets or a return tickets Brussels-Knokke. We return from Bruges.
●● Back to Brussels:
In Sluis there is a bus every hour to Bruges. In Bruges we have a connecting train to Brussels.
●● Specifics:
Distance: ca 24km
Elevation gain: Nada
Net walking time: ca 6h
Weather forecast: Dry for the moment, but this is Belgium.
In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even few hours before the event. If this must happen, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out an email to those registered. So it is important to have access to either the [[[[Meetup.com](http://meetup.com/)]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/))]([http://meetup.com/](http://meetup.com/)) website and/or your emails.
●● What to bring:
* Comfortable hiking clothes &shoes
* rain gear (just in case)
* water + food for the breaks
* sun cream
* Compeed for blisters
* some small money for drinks
●● Basic rules:
Please RSVP only if you really intend to come. And if your plans change, update your RSVP asap, even hours before the walk. This is basic courtesy towards others. Repeated late cancellations are not well considered (at all). No-shows are even worse.
Do not show up for a hike unless you are on the “going” list.
●● Acknowledgement of member responsibility and release of liability:
You are responsible for yourself and should be fit enough if you want to take part. As the participation in the events is strictly voluntary and you freely choose to join, it is the responsibility of individuals participating to ensure that they are fit enough and have adequate coverage to protect themselves. By signing up for this event, you agree to release the organisers from any responsibility and liability. Moreover, the organisers aren't tour operators, so they don't feel obliged to answer to every text message or email!

About the moderator
Edit, founder of Tulipane Design.
‘Raised in the Hungarian countryside, I learned sewing, crochet and traditional bead weaving. Jewellery being my main interest, I especially liked bead weaving. This passion has always been with me.
Since I have been living in Belgium, the African style fascinates me as much as the Hungarian folk style.
With my work, which manifests itself under the brand name Tulipane Design, I would like to offer a delicate mixture of Eastern Europe and Africa.
The designs are created and woven bead by bead. It is a work of patience and a kind of meditation: the beads take time to be woven.
Through my childhood trauma with an abusive father, I realised that creating is a crucial activity to find my balance and well-being and I think I am not alone with this. That's why my goal is not only to share my creations with other women but also to contribute to a social impact. Tulipane Design contributes with 1€/jewel sold to the Domestic Violence Centre in Belgium.’

***
**A MESSAGE FOR NEWCOMERS:**
*In the three years of hosting this coffee group, I have met many people who struggle with anxieties when coming to an event for the first time. Sometimes, it took them more than one attempt before being able to join.*
*Occasionally, people reach out to me before the event, and I have always been grateful for that as it offers the opportunity to communicate with each other and to find the best and most gentle way for that person to join the group.*
*I would like to encourage everyone who struggles with this to contact me before. It would really be too bad if you can't join us, as it mostly gets better the second or third time you come.*
*In addition to that, if you arrive and notice any signs of nervousness or fear, you can always let me know right then.*
**THANK YOU AND SEE YOU ALL ON Saturday!**

NEW TIME-- 6 PM!! Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister Café, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you!
After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations.
Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy:
What is a genuine friend?
Is social media turning us into emotional zombies?
Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them?
Are we driven by sex?
Is loneliness a personal failure?
Is morality relative?
**Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.

✨ Keep the energy positive and the fast friending event flowing smoothly
\- manage the event relationship with the venue
What is in it for you?
\- this is a volunteer role but we give you an expense allowance to cover some of your expenses\.
\- you get exposure to the local and international community and can make a positive contribution
\- you get experience with meeting new people\,running social events and managing groups\.
We would love to hear from you. Please write a quick message to Dan at +44 7715705005 and let's chat.
Family Constellations Circle in Brussels - February (half day format)
This is an open Circle for anyone and open to constellate on any subject. It's a good way to get started if you've been wanting to see what Constellations is all about. We will start with some bodywork exercises and then there will be time for three Constellations on any topic.
A Constellation is a means for accessing the timeless map you hold within, linking the past to the present and the present to the future. It's a tool to find the origin of the problems we face today such as repeated patterns, blockages, relationship difficulties or health concerns, to name a few, and has the power to reveal hidden dynamics not visible to the normal eye. Then a healing exchange takes place and steps are taken to free you from the past and put you on a road to freedom, understanding and authenticity for your future.
There are two ways to participate, either as a participant or Space Holder in the Circle or to bring a topic to constellate as an Issue Holder, which is limited to three places. Although one person will bring a subject to constellate, everyone participates. A Constellation is a Healing Circle for all who attend.
Price for Space Holders: 45 Euros (12 spots)
Price for Issue Holders: 145 Euros (3 spots)
Date: Sunday, February 8th
Time: 3:00 to 7:00 pm
Location: Shanti Home: Rue Darwin 8, Brussels 1190 (Forest)
\*There are three spots available for Constellations. Contact me if you'd like to reserve one of these spots.
\*Spots are limited for both roles to ensure enough space in the room, although the room is very spacious.
*Modified price for students or if you are unemployed. Write me if this is your case.*Payment must be made beforehand. You can register either to the following account or pay by credit card or PayPal by following the link to the website.

Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - White Star Evere
Hello! This is a meet-up to play tennis from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Meeting is on the courts. The courts are booked under the name Jean-Marc. This event is for intermediate and advanced players and not organised for novice players or beginners.
Please make sure to bring the exact sum of 10 € in cash.
The event is non-commercial. This sum covers the cost of the courts reserved. The organizer is not there to make money out of you. Ladies are encouraged to join.
If anyone wants to drop out, they should do it on Saturday morning, not on Sunday the day of the meetup, another wise it would be too late to find a replacement in time or to cancel a court in time with reimbursement. If you don't do this, you will be asked by the organizer to reimburse your participation fee. If this happens too late then those who have cancelled after Saturday morning will have to cover the extra cost for reserving the courts. In the past meetups, it happened too many times that we were an oneven number and because of that all those present had less fun to play. If you don't show up without giving a written excuse in time, the first future participation will be cancelled and you will be asked to reimburse the participation fee. If it happens too many times you will not be able to participate anymore.
In case if we are an uneven number of players, then the last player (except the host of course who has to collect the money) can leave or persuade other players to play with him or her. Of course if the last player leaves, then he or she doesn't have to pay the participation fee. If this player leaves, he or she will be added on a future event by the host or organizer in the participation list if the player is far away in the waiting list. This is the advantage of leaving on a voluntary basis;-).
We operate on the principle of Fair Play as we do not have umpires or referees. Any disputes or disagreements over line calls or scores should be resolved immediately on the court and, when agreement is not possible, the point or game should be replayed. To be able to replay the game, 3 players need to agree on that without manipulation of the one who disputes an entire game, anotherwise injustice could occur where in the end possibly the biggest cheater could win... This situation applies also, if the host or the organizer is involved.
When one of the players still doesn't accept this compromise, then it should be reported (meetup message by preference) to the organizer or host of the meetup event.
One of the consequences could be that the first upcoming event could be cancelled by the organizer for the player who doesn't comply with the compromise to play the point or the game again. If the same player does that again for a second time, then the person will see 4 of his next tennis meetups cancelled. If this happens a third time with the same player, then the player in question will be banned from all future tennis meetups with an exclusion as a final result.
Whenever there is a big problem, it should be reported as well to the organizer of the group so he can, if necessary, take actions to improve the situation for all the players.
Please also note that if you are the first on the waiting list, you will automatically be moved up to the attendance list if someone pulls out. So if you are on the waiting list and see that you cannot attend, please also change your status to not going.
If you would like to organize a meet up either this week or next week please get in touch with me, my name is Jean-Marc. It will depend on your initiatives to create more tennis meetups per week.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data**
Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics.
The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth.
The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical.
(note: we are back at Rev1 this month!)

CBusData - Ok I Want to Get Data into Fabric - Now What?
I love my job and one of the main things I do is help customers get going with any of the data technologies at Microsoft. Right now there are a lot of my customers asking about Microsoft Fabric. It's hard to weave across all the shiny new options across the Fabric landscape, let alone figure out where it fits into your organization. In this session we'll focus on answering one question - how can I get data into Fabric? We'll talk through the "it depends" options and see some of the options in live demos.

Data Pipelines at the Advanced Photon Source
**Abstract:** The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is an X-ray light source at Argonne National Laboratory where researchers perform imaging, diffraction and spectroscopy experiments at 68 specialized beamlines. APS recently completed a major upgrade that made it the brightest synchrotron in the world and upgraded many of the beamlines to take advantage of the dramatically brighter, more coherent beam. These new capabilities are increasing the facility’s raw data production from <10 PB/year before the upgrade to >100 PB/year once all instruments are back online. To meet this data challenge, the APS Beamline Data Pipeline project team is partnering with beamline staff to develop and deploy science data pipelines that use a common set of open-source software tools (many written in Python) to link instruments with the Polaris supercomputer at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) for data processing. This talk will describe the APS data systems, our file-based and streaming pipeline templates, and some of the open-source software we use to extract scientific insights from beamline data.
**Audience Takeaway:** Open source Python data acquisition and analysis tools are ubiquitous at the APS. Many of the packages that are mentioned can be found at [https://github.com/AdvancedPhotonSource](https://github.com/AdvancedPhotonSource).
This is a *hybrid* event. To attend online, join us on Zoom here at 6pm:
