Practical Philosophy Meetup - Copenhagen 🇩🇰
Practical Philosophy Meetup - Copenhagen 🇩🇰
**🏛️ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?** Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎 Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic. The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌 **📓 HOW DOES IT WORK?** Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/CRqdyO6p6lZDIN2qVRIlWX), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going. When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture. **General Meeting Agenda** Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline: * 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the ‘official' start. * 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines. * 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them. * 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo. * 21:00 - The official meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other. **🧧PRICING?** Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though! **💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY** 🗣 “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right and wrong” - Ekam 🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.” - Daniel **🤓 FAQ** * What will we talk about? What's the topic? The topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you don’t see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/CRqdyO6p6lZDIN2qVRIlWX). * Do I need to study or read anything to attend? No preparation is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and we’ll discuss it, but it's not required. * Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on? The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school. * Is it mostly men that attend? Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we don’t meet in any dark rooms. * Can I come alone? Of course you can, we encourage it :) * Can I be late? Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation. * Where do you meet? The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/CRqdyO6p6lZDIN2qVRIlWX) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/). 🤝**POLICY** To respect our members privacy, we ask that no one privately message a member without first getting explicit consent. (This looks like speaking in person and being asked to message privately.) Contacting or texting other participants without prior consent is not permitted and may result in removal from the group. Practical Philosophy reserves the right to enforce this policy at its discretion to maintain a safe and respectful environment. **PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY - Making Philosophy Available To All. ✨** Practical Philosophy hosts weekly, in-person meetups in 25+ countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! 🗺️ \*\*\* Join our [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/CRqdyO6p6lZDIN2qVRIlWX) 👈 Follow us on [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/practicalphilosophyclub/?hl=en) 👈 Our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/) 👈

Silvers Dinners Wednesdays
Silvers Dinners Wednesdays
Tickets here: [www.TheSilvers.dk](www.thesilvers.dk) Here in Copenhagen we have started a movement of weekly dinners (on a Wednesday) hosted by the senior generation in their own homes. Seniors with 60+ years of life experience who are community leaders, intellectuals, artists, storytellers, and want to share their experience over dinners for a small group each time. Every Wednesday there is dinner hosted by a different Silver (senior host) who will open their front door, welcome a group of 5-8 people into their home, and share their stories, knowledge, and connections across the table over a themed evening. Each host chooses their own theme and it is the aim to pass on their hard-earned knowledge.

Workshop Masterclass - “Stop Talking. Start Writing: From Anecdote to Arc”
Workshop Masterclass - “Stop Talking. Start Writing: From Anecdote to Arc”
Why do some stories stay with us, while others fall flat? Often, it is because we tell them from the outside in. We describe what happened, but lose the deeper transformation that makes people care. On Wednesday, June 10, at 18:00, we are hosting an interactive storytelling workshop at Kulturstationen Vanløse with Andreas Møgelhøj, Ph.D. Andreas has strong contest experience in both Evaluation and Table Topics, including repeated District Champion! In this 2-hour, hands-on workshop, we will move beyond storytelling theory and actively build the narrative spine of our own stories. You will work on: ✨ Finding your “Plot B” — the inner journey behind the outer events ✨ Identifying your “5-second moment” — the exact point of change ✨ Extracting “the gift” — the message your audience will remember ✨ Turning a rough idea into a story arc through fast writing sprints Important for everyone attending: 👉 Please come prepared with a story you want to work on. It does not need to be polished. It can be a rough idea, a personal experience, a draft speech, or a project you want to improve. The key is that you bring something specific, because we will be working directly on your own stories throughout the workshop. The goal is simple: that everyone leaves with a solid foundation for delivering a powerful “story speech” in the future. Bring your laptop, bring your story, and come ready to write. The world doesn’t care if you fail. It cares if you change. 🙋 Stop talking. Start writing. Show up. Bring your Story. 🗓️ Wednesday, June 10, at 18:00 📍 Kulturstationen Vanløse \-\-\- Speak to Lead Toastmasters helps people to improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a supportive and fun environment. No matter what your age, background, and level of confidence are, it is a place for you. If you are scared as hell of public speaking, then you should definitely come! If you are new to our club and would like to attend one of our club meetings, go to our [website](https://sites.google.com/view/speaktoleadtoastmasters) or [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/SpeaktoLeadToastmasters) / [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/speak-to-lead-toastmasters-copenhagen/) / [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/speaktolead.toastmasters/) pages for our current updates, send us a message on Messenger and see how our previous meetings have been. Email: speaktolead.membership@toastmasters.dk if you have any questions. Guests are welcome, and it is for free as a guest. If you find it interesting, you can later sign up as a member by paying a small monthly fee (non-profit). As a member, you will get access to online educational programs and manuals, will be able to give speeches, take on different roles, participate in contests and international conferences as well as befriend lots of cool people. We meet on Wednesdays from 18:00 at: **Kulturstationen Vanløse, Jernbane Allé 38, 2720 Vanløse.** The room is on the first floor. How to get there: 1\. Once you exit the Vanløse station turn 2\. towards the Burger King & Netto\, then 3\. On the left side is a white building with an elevator and staircase 4\. Go up to the first floor and use your CPR card to get in 5\. You will see the room with a Toastmasters sign Please note that the meeting is in English. In addition, the number of attendees on Meetup is not a representation of the number of people at the event. We are looking forward to seeing you!

**READ THROUGH BEFORE SIGNING-UP (and ensure you check your meet-up chat regularly :-) )** Can't think about a better way to wrap up the week then kayaking around the city channels. GreenKayak, a NGO dedicated to raise awareness to ocean pollution, makes few (open) kayaks available across the city to paddle and help collecting waste floating in the water. Open kayaks are typically easier to manovre than other types, and do not require EPP2/EPP3 patents. I booked 2 double kayaks for 4 ppl in total. It is possible to use the facilities at Kayak Republic free of charge: restrooms, lockers and showers. **REQUIREMENT** \- Safety first \- Need to be able to swim comfortably \- Waterproof gear preferable \- Sun lotion and sunglasses \- Change of clothes in case yours get a bit wet during paddling \- Towel\, if you want to shower or just in case **COST** Unfortunately, due to the frequent last minute cancellation last summer, it was challenging backfilling participants with short or no notice, and it was very disrespectful to the group and GreenKayak NGO. **To reserve your spot, please transfer 150 kr. to my mobilepay 25717293**. The amount will be returned to you if you show up on time, or the event is cancelled for other reasons; **this remains a free non-profit event**. The kayak rental is free of charge provided that: \- we are able to pick\-up some waste during our paddling activity \- we share our experience on the So\.Me \#GreenKayak **AGENDA** 16:50- Meet up - please be on time 🙂 16:50-17:00 Briefing and getting ready 17-00-18:45 Paddling around Copenhagen channels and return to the start point 18:45-19:00 Return the equipment to Kayak Republic **DISCOMFORT LEVEL** \- 3/5 **TO LEARN MORE** [GreenKayak](https://www.greenkayak.org/)
