Android Budapest February 2026
Android Budapest February 2026
We're back for 2026, and looking forward to seeing you at our February event, where you can learn more about Android and meet fellow mobile devs in person! As usual, we’ll have two great talks to set the tone of the evening, both from returning speakers at our meetup, exploring build configuration testing and code generation. **📜 Schedule:** 18:00 - 18:30: Gathering and socializing 18:30 - 19:05: First talk 19:05 - 19:30: Break 19:30 - 20:05: Second talk 20:05 - : More socializing! — **🔷 Gradle Testing: Unlocking TestKit for Developers - Tom Koptel** Testing custom Gradle plugins is a critical step in ensuring their reliability, especially when developing for Android projects. This talk will focus on leveraging the Gradle TestKit framework to set up robust testing environments for custom plugins. Attendees will learn how to configure their projects effectively, enabling seamless plugin testing and integration. Key topics include: * Project Setup for Plugin Testing: Laying the groundwork for a Gradle plugin project with proper dependencies and configurations tailored for Android development. * Using Gradle TestKit: A deep dive into functional testing with TestKit, including creating isolated test environments using GradleRunner and managing temporary directories for test builds. * Testing Against Multiple Android Gradle Plugin (AGP) Versions: Techniques to ensure compatibility across AGP versions by dynamically injecting dependencies during tests. * Advanced Testing Tools and Techniques: Exploring tools like Jacoco for code coverage metrics and live debugging of code under test. **🔷 Compile-time code generation with Kotlin Symbol Processing - Lajos Nyéki** In this talk, we will explore the advantages of compile-time code generation and how it can streamline development workflows by reducing boilerplate, improving performance and catching errors early. We’ll dive into Kotlin Symbol Processing (KSP), highlighting its modern approach compared to the older Kotlin Annotation Processing Tool (KAPT), and discuss why KSP is becoming the preferred choice for many Kotlin developers. To ground these concepts, we’ll walk through a real-world case study demonstrating how compile-time code generation with KSP can be applied to solve practical problems. — 🏢🍴 Thanks to [EPAM](https://careers.epam.hu/) for hosting us in their office, and keeping us fed and hydrated throughout the event! 🚪 **Doors open at 18:00** and the first talk starts at 18:30! 🗓️ The event is free but requires registration, so **please RSVP** here and don’t forget to update your response if it changes! 📸 We plan to take photos, so if you would not like to appear on them, please tell one of the organizers! 🎤 We are always looking for new presenters, so if you have an idea for a talk, please reach out to us at [meetup@androidbudapest.com](http://meetup@androidbudapest.com/) or submit at [https://androidbudapest.com/talkidea](https://androidbudapest.com/talkidea)!

DevBP #13: P-AI-R Programming, from Mobbing to Agents
DevBP #13: P-AI-R Programming, from Mobbing to Agents
Join us for an evening dedicated to the evolving landscape of software engineering. As our tools become more powerful, our focus shifts from simply writing syntax to building architecture and stronger teams. We’ll explore two distinct sides of this evolution: the human side, where **peer and mob programming** foster trust and shared ownership, and the technical side, where **AI agents** allow us to "print code" and one-shot complex features. Whether you are looking to improve "team quality" or manage the "review bottleneck" of AI-driven development, this meetup offers practical insights for every engineer. This English-language event will be held at the **Formlabs Budapest office**, where we'll provide snacks and drinks to fuel conversations. Arrival is from 17:30, Announcements and agenda at 17:55, first presentations will start at 18:00. \-\-\- **Peer Programming to increase "Team Quality"** **with [Nico Riedmann](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nico-riedmann/)** Most engineers are familiar with pair programming. Your team may already encourage it to foster learning or as an alternative to ensuring code quality via pull-request reviews. This talk will show you the impact that collaboratively creating code has on "team quality" rather than just "code quality" - creating opportunities to build trust, increase shared ownership, and define and better understand a shared vision. And if you weren’t convinced before, we’ll end with a few practical tips on getting started with pair and mob-programming. **One-Shotting Features: The Reality of Agentic Workflows** **With [János Molnár](https://www.linkedin.com/in/j%C3%A1nos-moln%C3%A1r-9b582896/)** This talk explores our journey from using AI as a glorified auto-complete to one-shotting complex features. I’ll discuss our team’s evolution from using AI for basic code generation to adopting agentic workflows that shift our focus toward planning and architecture. We’ll explore the benefits of this high-level approach alongside the "review bottleneck" that occurs when AI velocity outpaces human auditing, and how we adapted our processes while releasing and building our Greenhouse project. \-\-\- Come learn and connect with other tech enthusiasts. See you there! You can also find the recordings of previous events on the [@DevBPMeetup YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@DevBPMeetup).
Session #22 - Politics Part 3 - Liberalism and democracy
Session #22 - Politics Part 3 - Liberalism and democracy
“*Men being, as has been said, by nature, all free, equal and independent, no one can be put out of this estate, and subjected to the political power of another, without his own consent.*” ― John Locke, Second Treatise of Government *“There is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice. (Cambridge University Press (September 29, 1989)”* ― Charles-Louis de Secondat, baron de la Brède et de Montesquieu, The Spirit of the Laws *“The only freedom which deserves the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it.”* ― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty ## The Birth of Liberalism Liberalism emerges as a response to **absolute power**, religious conflict, and arbitrary authority. In this session, we explore the foundations of liberal democracies through three key thinkers, each addressing a different dimension of political power: **legitimacy, institutions, and liberty**. ## Core Thinkers ### **John Locke** * Natural rights: life, liberty, property * Government by consent * Political power as conditional * Right to resist illegitimate authority ### **Montesquieu** * Separation of powers * Liberty as protection from arbitrary rule * Checks and balances * Institutional restraint ### **John Stuart Mill** * Individual liberty * Harm principle * Freedom of speech * Tyranny of the majority **Introduction (15 minutes)** We start with a short introduction of the guests. **Questions to discuss: (1 hour and 45 minutes)** **Locke related:** * If rights are “natural,” who decides today when they conflict? * Does property still legitimize political power in a world of inherited wealth and financial abstraction? * Would Locke recognize modern taxation, surveillance, or emergency powers as legitimate? * Do we still believe in a real “right to resistance,” or only in theory? **Montesquieu related:** * Are separation of powers and checks still effective in today's estates? * What is the difference between institutions and bureaucracies? * Can power shift from institutions, to bureaucracies, to algorithms? * How can liberal institutions survive permanent states of exception (crises, wars, pandemics)? * Is slow decision-making a safeguard or a liability in the 21st century? * Where does power concentrate today despite formal separation? **John Stuart Mill related:** * Is social pressure more coercive today than the state itself? * How does “harm” according to Stuart Mill fit in an age of social media outrage? * Can free speech survive when offense is treated as violence? * Are we still willing to defend individuality or is moral conformity more important? * Would Mill see oppression in our democratic times? **General critical questions:** * Is modern liberalism still about limiting power, or mainly about managing society? * Can liberal democracies survive when large parts of the population no longer believe institutions are neutral? * Is today’s crisis of liberalism a moral failure, an economic one, or an institutional one? * Can liberal democracy exist outside Western historical conditions? * Can liberalism tolerate movements that openly oppose it? * Is liberalism too slow for the speed of modern politics and technology? **Critical questions from the right:** * Why do populist movements reject liberalism? * If liberalism weakens borders and traditions, can it still demand loyalty? * Has liberalism underestimated the political force of identity, culture, and belonging? * Can liberal democracy defend itself without becoming illiberal? * Is liberalism an external cultural imposition? **Critical questions from the left:** * When equality conflicts with liberty, which does liberalism choose? * Should equality come from public institutions or activist movements? * Is economic inequality undermining liberal legitimacy? * Can liberal values be separated from US influence and power? * Are anti-Western movements rejecting liberalism, or Western hypocrisy? **RSVP:** Please confirm your attendance here on Meetup to save your space and if you cannot assist, yield your space to another person in the waiting list. Open to donations from 400 HUF to keep the costs of the meetup (cash or Revolut)

Beyond UX: Digital Products as Intelligent Partners
Beyond UX: Digital Products as Intelligent Partners
Digital products are evolving from “screens” to intelligent partners—services that notice context, anticipate intent, and adapt in real time. That shift is exciting… and risky. Philosophy of Friendship: What are the bases of "friendship"?
Philosophy of Friendship: What are the bases of "friendship"?
As you may or may not know--I didn't until late last year--Aristotle wrote extensively on "friendship" in the Nicomachean Ethics. After 69 years the concept of friendship still creates questions and uncertainty. I had close friends in high school and for a few years after high school but our interests diverged and people moved all over the country so it was hard to maintain connections. * So if I/you haven't talked with a friend for several years, are you still friends? Are we friends who meet at Drunken Philosophy or Omnipresent Atheists? * Can you be friends with someone with whom you have virulently divergent political views? Sartre and Camus could not. * Aristotle regarded friendship as essential to a good life, not merely an added "bonus." Do you agree? * In the Nicomachean Ethics (Books VIII and IX), he claims that wealth and power are meaningless without friends. Trump has wealth and power but seems to have no real friends, but wealth and power seem meaningful to him in perverted ways. Can you have meaning in your life without friends? * Do men and women view and maintain friendships in different ways? * Aristotle categorizes friendship into three types, based on what forms the bond: * **Utility**: Based on mutual benefit, but this type is fragile and ends when the usefulness ceases. * **Pleasure**: Based on shared enjoyment (e.g., humor, hobbies). Common among youth but fades as interests change. * **Virtue (The "Complete" Friendship)**: Based on mutual respect for each other's character and goodness. You wish good for the other for their sake, not yours. * **Key Principles of "True" (Virtuous) Friendship:** * **Permanence**: Virtuous friendships last a lifetime whereas those based on utility and pleasure are fleeting. * **Reciprocity**: Requires mutual goodwill; secret or unreciprocated affection does not qualify. * **The "Second Self"**: A true friend is "another self"—their virtue helps you understand and improve yourself. * **Time and Intimacy**: Deep ("complete") friendships are few, built on time and shared experiences. * **Self-Love and Friendship:** * Good friendship starts with being a friend to yourself. * They distinguish shallow egoism (chasing honors) from real self-love (pursuing virtue). * A virtuous person’s pleasant self-company allows them to be a stable, good friend to others. * Aristotle argues that one's social circle ultimately reflects one's character—a view with striking relevance today. Well--the Drunken Philosophy social circle certainly reflects good character!
