BOOK CLUB: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie w/Jakarta Writers
BOOK CLUB: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie w/Jakarta Writers
Hello, Jakarta Writer! **Are you a member of [Jakarta Friends](https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/) yet?** Want to see **pictures** of past events? **[Take a look here!](https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-creatives/photos/)** And feel free to upload a few pictures you might take at the event 😊 JakWri (former Jakarta Writers) and JakFri is **the** biggest, oldest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this **BOOK CLUB discussing "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" 😵 by Agatha Christie!** Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle. Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself. **ABOUT THE EVENT** The idea is very simple: we will meet and discuss the book. Everyone will receive a copy of the book as PDF beforehand **for free** (which we kindly ask not to share with everyone - this book discussion is for educational purposes). Reach out to the host to receive the PDF, and feel free to ask any question in the discussion section of the event page. Everyone is encouraged to read the short book (in English, about 300 pages) beforehand to participate to the discussion. Coming without having read the book is possible, but just half the fun. The host will give a short introduction about the book and guide through the discussion, which will be very informal and fun. Everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions. This event is **introvert friendly**! No one will be put on the spot or forced to speak. Just join and share your passion for literature, no matter how much you read. This is a dream event for anyone who wishes to take a deep dive into literature and have a fun, social lunch time. Our book club will be in English. Everyone's English level is OK as this is a nice occasion to practice English in an informal and welcoming setting. **ABOUT THE BOOK** Dubbed the "Queen of Crime", no one can deny the commercial and literary impact of Agatha Christie as a fiction writer. With sales figure reaching up to 2 billion copies worldwide, it's about time we evaluate what makes her works so powerful and successful, beginning with her debut novel: The Mysterious Affair at Styles, an introduction to Hercule Poirot, arguably one of the most famous fictional detective in the world, second only to Sherlock Holmes. When wealthy matriarch Emily Inglethorp is found dead under deeply suspicious circumstances, suspicion falls on nearly everyone in the household. A classic set-up, a fantastic and gripping execution. The less you know about the case the better, but take this as a challenge: Can you solve the case before Poirot does? Discover more about the book [on Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52843028-the-mysterious-affair-at-styles)! **We have had several Book Clubs before!
