***Let's kick off the new year with a bang***... or rather, a hike! Join us for a ***refreshing walk*** after this period of parties with good food and drinks. Let's get some fresh air together and ***welcome the new year 2026*** on its first day in nature while burning some calories. It's the ***perfect way to clear your head*** and set a positive tone for the year ahead. For this hike we will mostly follow the ***“promenade verte”*** around Brussels and walk trough ***nice parks and the "Soignies Forest".*** After the hike we will have a nice ***new year’s drink together at Flagey*** (if we find a pub that is open on January 1st) **Please don't forget to pay Maikel a New Year’s Drink :-)** ***We will walk at an average speed of 5km/h.*** We will walk both on paved and unpaved roads. Since I have been living in Belgium, the African style fascinates me as much as the Hungarian folk style. With my work, which manifests itself under the brand name Tulipane Design, I would like to offer a delicate mixture of Eastern Europe and Africa. The designs are created and woven bead by bead. It is a work of patience and a kind of meditation: the beads take time to be woven. Through my childhood trauma with an abusive father, I realised that creating is a crucial activity to find my balance and well-being and I think I am not alone with this. That's why my goal is not only to share my creations with other women but also to contribute to a social impact. [Captain Sonar](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/171131/captain-sonar) Drinks provided 🚰☕🫖🍺🍷 Big dog provided 🐶 (You've been warned) At the bottom of the ocean, no one will hear you scream! In Captain Sonar, you and your teammates control a state-of-the-art submarine and are trying to locate an enemy submarine in order to blow it out of the water before they can do the same to you. Every role is important, and the confrontation is merciless. Be organized and communicate because a captain is nothing without his crew: the Chief Mate, the Radio Operator, and the Engineer. All the members of a team sit on one side of the table, and they each take a particular role on the submarine, with the division of labor for these roles being dependent on the number of players in the game. Roles include: the Captain, who is responsible for moving the submarine and announcing some details of this movement; the Radio Operator listening to the opposing captain's orders and try to decipher where that sub might be in the water; the Engineer working in the munitions room to prepare torpedoes, mines and other devices that will allow for combat. Captain Sonar can be played in two modes: turn-by-turn or simultaneous. In the latter set-up, all the members of a team take their actions simultaneously while trying to track what the opponents are doing, too. When a captain is ready to launch an attack, the action pauses for a moment to see whether a hit has been recorded — then play resumes with the target having snuck away while the attacker paused or with bits of metal now scattered across the ocean floor. Multiple maps are included with varying levels of difficulty.

As this will be our first walk of the New Year, we are offering an optional reflection session before the walk. Theme of the reflection: What do we want to let go of? This **pre-walk session is an optional addition**. If you wish to participate, please go directly to the [Maison du Prieur](https://maisonduprieur.be/) (where we usually end our walks) **at 14:00.** I will hold a friendly and safe space for reflection and exchange. **Walk-only option** If you prefer to join only for the walk, Alan will pick you up at Herrmann-Debroux metro station (Loxam side) **at 15:30**. Inspired by the magical atmosphere of our previous daytime-to-dusk walk, we will once again walk silently through the forest for about 1.5 hours.
