W. E. B. Du Bois (1868–1963) was an influential American sociologist, historian, writer, and civil rights activist. A co-founder of the NAACP and a lifelong pan-Africanist, he challenged racial discrimination through journalism, activism and academic research. His landmark book, *The Souls of Black Folk*, explored the experiences of Black Americans and introduced the concept of “double consciousness,” describing the tension of seeing oneself through both one’s own perspective and that of a society shaped by racism. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Du Bois advocated for immediate social and political equality, famously clashing with Booker T. Washington’s strategy of accommodation. Du Bois was one of the first Black Americans to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard University and remains a foundational figure in sociology, African American studies, and the global struggle for human rights. This is half-day philosophy conference on W. E. B. Du Bois presented by the University of Toronto's Centre for Ethics. The conference is free to attend and open to the public. You may want to keep in mind factors like game duration and table space required, set up time and repacking time. Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better!
Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place.
Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm.
Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend.

The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~20 per person. Soft drink refills are 1 each. Open Shelter has teamed up again with Red White and Boom! Friday, July 3rd & we are looking for volunteers to run the event’s alcohol booths. Proceeds from sales go to the Open Shelter’s organization. There are two available shifts: 12-6p & 5-11p. There will be an ipad-like device to process transactions in addition to cash. Everything will be in bottles or cans, so transactions should be very easy. Must be 21+. There are multiple beverage stations along the Civic Center Bridge. The stations are covered and also have beverage trucks next to them, so volunteers can cool off in the trucks. As far as parking, it is suggested those who are coming from the east use the Columbus Commons Garage, and those from the west use the Belle Street Garage.
