Sean Lemass, The Last Memoir, Talk at the Mess: Richmond Barracks
Come join me as we venture back to Richmond Barracks for a talk at the Mess : Séan Lemass - The Lost Memoir.
Speaker: Ronan McGreevy (Irish Times journalist and author)
Topic: Unseen private recordings and untold perspectives from Ireland’s most transformative Taoiseach.
We will meet inside entrance doors of Richmond Barracks at 5.45pm.
Talk starts at 6pm and finishes at 7pm.
Please book your own free ticket on the Richmond Barracks website.
Once your ticket is booked, let me know in Comments and you will be moved to the Going List.
The talk explores rare 1967 - 1969 interview tapes of Sean Lemass, where he discusses his complicated relationship with Eamonn de Valera, his disdain for the IRA, and his visionary economic policies.
Richmond Barracks is a former British Army barracks which was refurbished for cultural and community use by Dublin City Council in 2016. It was originally built in 1810 in response to the threat of a French invasion during the Napoleonic Wars. It was one of the British Army’s largest barracks in Dublin at the time.
See you there
Stories Beneath Us
Hello TEDheads!
What's the story?
Said often in Ireland, but what *IS* the story? The story you live by, the story that provides a path in your journey, the story that shapes you?
Some stories shrink people into categories. Others open us up to curiosity, empathy, and wonder.
We are influenced by stories than we realize.
The talks below invite us to explore both the danger and power of stories — how they shape identity, culture, imagination, and the way we relate to others.
This month’s TED Talks Conversation will be a space for thoughtful discussion, fresh perspectives, and meaningful conversation around the stories we inherit, believe, and pass on.
Let's leave the night telling a different story.
***Please watch the following TED talk and read the article on your own device before the event.***
***
# ★ **Talk #1:** [Why a good book is a secret door](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPrS7-kx9Y0) \| Mac Barnett
Childhood is surreal. Why shouldn't children's books be? In this whimsical talk, award-winning author Mac Barnett speaks about writing that escapes the page, art as a doorway to wonder — and what real kids say to a fictional whale.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPrS7-kx9Y0
# ★ **Resource # 2:** [The Danger of a Single Story| Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg)
Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice -- and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg
**Please note the following:**
We want to provide a space for those who are curious about life, enjoy TED Talks, and want to share their findings with others. Please join us as we consider this topic, **Wednesday, June 3 at 7:15pm.**
Newcomers are most welcome! Hoping to see you there.
(Please sign up only if you really intend to attend).
NOTE: We ask for a **4 Euro contribution** on the night to cover costs. Thank you.

Spiritual Conversations Dublin
This Meetup was created as a sacred place for those who feel called to explore consciousness, spirituality, personal growth, and the deeper aspects of who we are.
We come together every two weeks not for casual socializing, but to connect with depth, presence, and authenticity. Everyone’s perspective is welcome here without judgement.
My intention for this gathering is to be conscious and deliberate—like a living container that supports us all in being seen, heard, and understood.
This space may not be for everyone—and that’s okay.
If you’re looking for light social banter or casual networking, this group may not resonate with you.
But if you feel called to walk into a space where people speak from the heart, share with honesty, and lean into spiritual exploration with wonder and sovereignty—then you’re in the right place.
We don’t always know where the conversation will flow—but we trust the current.
And every time, it brings us to understanding each other from a deeper level.
If this resonates then I look forward to sharing this space with you.
***All are welcome and facilities are wheelchair friendly

🌈 Pride Books & Social 🍸
📚 Pride Month is a chance to come together around stories that feel lived-in, complicated, and real, and this discussion invites us to sit with those voices rather than just skim them. Its roots go back to the Stonewall Riots, and since then Pride literature has grown into a bold, varied body of work—from Giovanni’s Room to A single man and Normal People, each capturing different shades of love and identity. As we read, the aim isn’t just analysis but conversation—what resonates, what challenges us, and what these stories say about how people find themselves and each other.
Let's grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and discuss books on pride —whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. Bring your physical book or e-reader.
There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.💬
It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests!
⚠️**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. Even if it seems minor, don't hesitate to reach out to me.
🔍 **How to find us?**
* When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group.
* If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you.
We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. 💡
I look forward to seeing you all! 😊

reviving gardans, Growing community
**Hands in the Soil: Community Growing, Learning & Craic**
This first gathering will be a relaxed mix of **hands-on garden work, shared learning, and good conversation**. It’s about getting together in a real space, doing something practical, and seeing what ideas and connections might grow from there.
On the day, we’ll:
* Get our **hands dirty** with some light garden work and soil prep
* Do some **seed sowing** and talk about what grows well locally
* **Make kombucha together** and chat about fermentation, food, and simple home practices
* Share knowledge, questions, and experiences around growing food
* Enjoy some **fellowship, chats, and a bit of craic** along the way.Alongside the practical side, we’ll also have an open, informal discussion about a bigger idea:
* The possibility of **small community “park farms” or gardens** in underused green spaces around Dublin
* What that might look like, what’s realistic, and whether others feel drawn to exploring it further
There’s no pressure, no expertise required, and no expectation beyond showing up with curiosity and a willingness to pitch in. Whether you’re experienced with gardening or completely new, you’re very welcome.
Bring clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, and if you have them, gloves. Everything else will be very low-key.
This is just a **first step** — a chance to meet, work, talk, and see if there’s a shared appetite to keep growing something together.
Board Game Meet Up in Celbridge!
A weekly board game meet up in "Mc Mahon’s Bar and Eatery" which is a pub. We get our own section, it's wheelchair friendly and parking is free! 🙂
Whether you are new or a veteran player you are all are welcome!
General guidelines are:
1. Avoid handing drinks to people OVER a game.
2. We cannot take responsibility in the event of theft so keep your valuables close to you.
3. Strictly over 18+ only.
The "rules" would be:
1. Be respectful to each other.
2. Don't be a creep.
3. Be patient to players of all skill levels.
Failure to be a decent human being\* will jeopardise your participation in future events.
The pub owner is really nice and are letting us use the space so if you can - please buy a tea, coffee or a drink on the night to support them if you can but don't feel obligated to do so.
They also do food so you won't go hungry!
The event starts at 7 PM and everyone is free to play until 11 PM where we'll wrap it up for the cleaners.
Feel free to bring your games, join in on a game if there's space or organise a game here for the upcoming event to get participants. We advertise the games we want to play ahead of time on our discord server, so feel free to check it out. https://discord.gg/xW8WryXmKu
If you get lost or have any questions feel free to message me on WhatsApp at 0858405446.
Just a note for those coming by car from Dublin:
1. I highly recommend using the motorway then driving into the pub. There's a slightly faster way with the back roads but unless you are from the area its not worth the 2 minutes saved since it's barely lit and the bends are somewhat hazardous.
2. Traffic from 5 - 6:30 is horrendous but the roads are clear enough after this time.
East Coast Toastmasters meeting.
In Person meeting,
SWORDS, CO. DUBLIN K67 FK22
**Ryan Curtis - Guest Speaker**
Ryan is making remarkable progress after being paralyzed from the neck down and “close to death” MMA fighter Ryan 'Chaos' Curtis suffered a broken back, broken neck .and dislocated spine during a training session.
He will join us for his speech on his miracle recovery after being told he would never walk again.
A typical Toastmasters International meeting, you will experience a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment designed to help people grow in confidence and communication skills.
Meetings usually include prepared speeches from members, where speakers practise everything from storytelling and presentations to leadership and persuasion skills. We also have a “Topics” session, where members can volunteer to answer light-hearted or thought-provoking questions with short impromptu speeches — a great way to build confidence thinking on your feet.
In addition, meetings may include a poem or an educational spot where members share tips on public speaking, communication, or leadership skills. Constructive and supportive feedback is also provided to help speakers improve in a positive and encouraging way.
Most importantly, guests are under absolutely no pressure to participate or speak. You are very welcome to simply attend, observe, and get a feel for how the meetings work before deciding if it is something you would enjoy.
