You can also visit our website to get more information on our club. https://sli.toastmastersclubs.org/ ***Preparing for Your First Toastmasters Meeting: A Guide for Guests*** If you're considering attending your first Toastmasters meeting, congratulations! You're taking an important step in developing your public speaking and leadership skills. But, we understand that it can be intimidating to attend a meeting for the first time, especially when you're not sure what to expect. That's why we've put together this guide to help you prepare for your first Toastmasters meeting. By the time you arrive, you'll have a good understanding of what to expect and why Toastmasters is structured the way it is. Here's what you need to know: * **What is Toastmasters?** Toastmasters is an organization that provides a supportive and positive learning environment where members can develop their public speaking and leadership skills. Members meet each week to practice giving speeches, participate in impromptu speaking exercises, and give and receive feedback. This is a combination of in person meeting as well as online. * **A Brief History of Toastmasters** Toastmasters was founded in 1924 by Ralph C. Smedley in Santa Ana, California. Smedley recognized the need for a supportive and structured environment where people could develop their public speaking and leadership skills. Today, Toastmasters has over 363,000 members in 143 countries, making it one of the largest organizations of its kind in the world. * **What happens at a Toastmasters meeting?** Each Toastmasters meeting has a specific structure, with several different roles and activities. Here are some of the key elements you can expect: The meeting begins with a formal opening, usually led by the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) who introduces the Chair of the meeting. The Chair will lead the first half of the meeting and introduce the mini-roles. The purpose of having many small roles is to give the chance to more people to speak. The Toastmaster of the Day (TMD) takes the lead for the second half of the meeting, the education session, which starts with the prepared speeches. Members who have signed up in advance will give a prepared speech on a topic of their choice. The length and format of the speech will depend on the member's level and the type of speech they are giving. **Next is the Table Topics**: This is an opportunity for members to practice impromptu speaking. The Table Topics Master will ask a question or give a prompt, and participants have 1-2 minutes to speak on the topic. **Evaluations:** For each prepared speech, an evaluator will give feedback on the speaker's strengths and areas for improvement. This is an important part of the Toastmasters learning experience, as it helps members identify areas for growth and improvement. The meeting ends with a closing quiz. The quiz master will ask questions to make sure participants were listening! * **Why is Toastmasters structured this way?** The structure of a Toastmasters meeting is designed to provide a supportive and positive learning environment for members. With all the available roles, participants have many opportunities to practice their public speaking and leadership skills, receive feedback, and improve over time. In addition, the structure helps to ensure that meetings are well-organized and run smoothly. This allows members to focus on their personal growth and development, without getting bogged down by administrative details. * **What should I expect as a guest?** As a guest, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment. You will have the opportunity to observe the different activities and get a feel for what Toastmasters is all about. You may be asked to participate in Table Topics, but you are under no obligation to do so. If you prefer to just observe, that's perfectly fine. Most people visiting for the first time find it interesting and unique because of the structure and all the roles. After the meeting, you will have the opportunity to talk to members and ask any questions you have about Toastmasters. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the organization and how it can benefit you.

Monday Night Savages
Monday Night Savages
[LONG OVERDUE COVID-19 UPDATE] We've not been meeting in person for a very long time, due to the need to protect our community from undue exposure during this pandemic. With over half a million deaths recorded now and no real end in sight, Monday Night Savages remains on hiatus as an in-person gathering event. However, there IS a Discord Server where folks are encouraged to set up online, virtual gaming events, as well as "We've been mutually quarantined and are tested negative" meetups. https://discord.gg/ukmNykS At some point, we hope the vaccines reach enough of the population to warrant general in-person gatherings again. When that day comes, the Monday Night Savages will join once more for great RPG action! ---------- I realized it was high time to update this description, so here it is. Monday Night Savages (called that because, when we started, it was mostly Savage Worlds games we had going) has evolved into all kinds of different games being run. We have numerous GMs, thankfully, and we have them rotating on an every-two-week basis. This means a given campaign or short series will run every other Monday for a while, while the opposite Mondays will feature a different set of games. Your best bet to find out what games are in the rotation is to join our Facebook group. Let me (Sean Patrick Fannon) know on FB that you'd like in on that group. That's also a great group to talk about games you'd like to run or see someone run. Prior to each Monday, the proposed games will be listed in the Conversation section below this announcement section; make sure you indicate your game choice below when it's posted. ~SPF
Vampire the Masquerade 5th ed. / D20 Modern (Online, for now)
Vampire the Masquerade 5th ed. / D20 Modern (Online, for now)
Hi Everyone, We are looking for more players (and GM's) in our weekly virtual "tabletop" role-playing group (yup, we are once again online, thanks to the winter surge and Omicron. We'll likely get back around a table in the spring). We meetup once a week on Saturdays, from about 11am to 5pm, occasionally there's some minor variation on the time, dependent on the schedules of our players but the game IS on Saturday around that time (please make sure that reliably works with your schedule before responding). At the moment, we're in the midst of re-organizing our group, but we are playing Vampire the Masquerade 5th ed. and D20 Modern (on successive alternating weekends respectively). Btw, if you're in for one, you're in for both please (no cherry picking games, it's a headache). Even if you’ve never played any RPG before it’s ok. Everyone in the group is willing to teach, so don’t worry if you don’t have any experience; that’s not as important as a desire to play. If you're interested in getting more campaign/character creation details, please send me a private message (not a comment below, that won't be sufficient; there's a chance I'd miss it and that would suck). I'll arrange a "virtual" meet and greet session and then we can try to get you into the next upcoming game. Please, don't RSVP the same day as the event and expect to be in the game. I vet all our potentials ahead of time; that way they're a good fit but also so they can familiarize themselves with the details of the campaign, the rules system and have a character ready to go on game day (that way no one is waiting on the new guy to finish up his character). Cheers! Post Script: For the MOMENT, I've been asked by both Storyteller and GM to put our recruiting on PAUSE. Our table is full for now, but will likely open up again as we lose players (which inevitably happens). For now, I am leaving the posting up and active and would ask that anyone interested continue to contact me. I AM still responding to players and will be contacting people as spots open back up.

Join **Daclaud** at **The Arcane Foundry** for an evening that introduces newcomers and enthusiasts alike to the timeless craft of **tabletop wargaming** and **miniature painting**. My own journey began with a fascination for fantasy — knights in armor, grim and hardened warriors, and monstrous creatures locked in epic battle. That passion led me to **Dungeons & Dragons**, where I painted my first **Basic Heroes set** and felt the spark that comes from bringing a character to life in miniature form. Not long after, I discovered **Warhammer Fantasy** and **Warhammer 40,000**, and I was hooked. The vision of vast armies clashing across the table — each unit meticulously painted, each story unfolding through dice and imagination — became my creative obsession. During this event, we’ll explore the **origins of wargaming**, from its early military simulations to the richly detailed worlds of modern tabletop battle systems. You’ll learn how to **build and customize your own armies**, paint your first figures, and experience the joy of turning strategy and storytelling into a hands-on art form. Whether you’re drawn by the lore, the hobby, or the thrill of commanding miniature legions, this introduction will open the gates to a world that has captivated hobbyists for generations. **🎨 RSVP today and join us at The Arcane Foundry — where every brushstroke and battle tells a story.**
