Dialogues #34 - Topic: Violence Within Us
In a world full of opinions, noise, and quick reactions, we often miss spaces for real dialogue â for slowing down, listening, and connecting with one another. This evening is an invitation to do exactly that.
Join us for an open and friendly evening (in English & free of charge) dedicated to Violence Within Us.
We will brainstorm together in an Open Spaceâstyle format, where participants choose topics themselves about what we want to discuss from this broad topic - questions to help you get inspired:
What is violence and is it ever justified?
Is revolution possible without violence?
Violence as disciplinary method, how do you see it?
Physical violence X Mental violence - how many kinds of violence are there?
Afterwards, participants will form small groups to explore the questions and insights around the topics
18:00 â Doors open
18:15 â Introduction & topic selection
18:40 - We start discussions
19:40 - Closing session (sharing activities)
20:00 - Networking & Connect
What to expect:
A welcoming space for newcomers and regulars alike
Be slightly pushed to socialize
Open, participant-led small-group discussions on diverse perspectives
No expertise required â everyoneâs opinion matters!
Safe, respectful, and judgment-free conversations
More about sharing and reflecting than debating or convincing
No pressure to speak â listening is just as valuable
Not a lecture, not a debate club, and definitely not intimidating!
Feel free to bring some snacks to share!
Friendly dogs are welcome!
If you are a regular that appreciate us and can help, or a newcomer who enjoyed the evening, and wants to help, we have recently set a Patreon page where you can support us!

BWV 639 Confession
Your crown is rough, Your throne is cold, Your kingdom is the Word,
I am walking on the path You carved out of my suffering.
I see the men who crave the world and its profane attraction,
Where power is a poison, and ambition takes its toll.
They build their towers to the sky on foundations of the weak,
A coming storm will wash away these vain, deluded plans.
I have seen all that is done beneath the dying sun,
It is meaningless, just chasing wind through empty hands.
The troubles of my heart enlarge,
My tears wash away the hatred I knew.
Turn to me, and show Your grace,
In the final hour, make my spirit anew...
For I am waiting here for You.
A broken heart cannot fly; it drags upon the stone,
But who decides the time to die, or walk this path alone?
Above all else, I guard my heart, the wellspring of my soul,
I take the cross and follow You, to finally be whole.
I call to You, my Lord, from the depths of my despair,
How many tears must I have shed to find Your presence there?
You are my witness, gathering my sorrows of the past,
My only fear is losing You when shadows fall at last.
The troubles of my heart enlarge,
My tears wash away the hatred I knew.
Turn to me, and show Your grace,
In the final hour, make my spirit anew...
For I am waiting here for You.
The Lost Weekend, on Friday 20.3 at 20h at Kino Ponrepo
Hi everyone!
Please join us on **Friday, March 20th**, for a screening of **[The Lost Weekend](https://nfa.cz/cs/63451-ztraceny-weekend-the-lost-weekend?screening=63452)** at **[Kino Ponrepo](https://nfa.cz/en/ponrepo-cinema)**. The movie begins at **20:30**.
Youâll find me (wearing a bright pink/flowery scarf) at the Kino Ponrepo cafĂŠ from 8 pm.
The movie, directed by filmmaker Billy Wilder and released in 1945, follows Don, an aspiring writer, who âfaces numerous challenges, including the impact of his alcoholism on his relationships with his girlfriend Helen ⌠and his brother Wick. The film stands out for its raw depiction of addiction, making it a poignant representation of the struggles faced by those affected by alcoholism, particularly resonant in the post-World War II context.â (See [here](https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/film/lost-weekend-film).)
Come enjoy this screening and stay for a drink and a chat about the film afterwards!
If youâd like to join us, please **purchase your own ticket [here](https://goout.net/en/tickets/the-lost-weekend/jpwjb/)**. Please note that seats are unassigned, so arriving a little early is recommended if youâd like to choose your spot.
Kind request: if you register to attend but are unable to join, please change your RSVP accordingly.
Hope to see you there!

We are currently meeting in-person at Locus Workspace. If you have any questions, contact Sonya Lano here or on Facebook or Messenger (https://www.facebook.com/sonya.lano).
We start at 9:00, introduce ourselves, and share a few words about what we're working on and what we hope to accomplish during the session. At the end of the session, you can give us a brief recap of how it went. We'll break at noon.
The afternoon session starts at 2:00 pm. You're welcome to join both sessions or just one. Please come as close to 9:00 as you can if you come for the morning session. If you come to the afternoon session, we are usually back by about a quarter to 2:00.
Prague Writers Group [in-person & virtual]
\*\*\*\*\* We're meeting both in-person and virtually via Skype depending on the week. Contact Sonya Lano for more information if you want to join \*\*\*\*\*
This is for anyone wanting feedback! We mostly focus on novels and longer works, but short stories are welcome, as well. You can submit anything you want feedback on in any genre. Current word limit for submissions is 4,000 words. Send your submissions by 13:30 the Thursday before the meeting (or we have a grace period during which you can submit a lower limit of 2,500 words if you submit by midnight Thursday evening). Also, if you don't have time to read through everyone's submissions, still join the meeting! We know that busy schedules don't always make finding reading time easy.
To submit, use the Dropbox folder. If you don't have access to it, send sonyalakadosch@yahoo.com your e-mail address so I can add you.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there! My number in case of any confusion the day of the meeting is 737 118 530 - or on Facebook: Sonya Lano (https://www.facebook.com/sonya.lano)
DROPBOX INFO:
* add new submissions for the next meeting in the " submissions" folder for the meeting date. Put your name at the beginning of the file name (for example: "Sonya Somewhere in the Dark")
* When providing written feedback (not required, but deeply welcome), save the file as a separate document on your device, then mark your changes/ feedback in the saved file. After you're finished, put the file in the "Feedback" folder under the folder for the meeting date and then under the person the feedback is for (e.g. "For Sonya").
* The submissions folder will be replaced within a week after the meeting has taken place. Feedback will be deleted within 2 months after the meeting, so if you need it longer than that, make sure to copy it to your own disk.

Sunday Reading Circle: Philosophy as a Way of Life
It's easy to get the idea that philosophy is largely an abstract and conceptual endeavorâstudying theories that try to explain the universe, morality, or language, and then arguing until we either prove those we disagree with wrong or at least reach a smug sense of clarity. But is that all that philosophy has to offer?
For this month's reading, we'll explore this question with **Pierre Hadot**, a French philosopher and historian of philosophy. Hadot was a **professor at the Collège de France**, where he held the **Chair in the History of Hellenistic and Roman Thought**.
He specialized in **ancient Greek and Roman philosophy--especially Stoicism, Neoplatonism, and early Christian thought**âas was known for his scholarship on **Marcus Aurelius, Plotinus, and ancient spiritual exercises**. His work has influenced many contemporary philosophers, classicists, and the modern revival of philosophy as a lived practice.

Below is a PDF copy of Hadot's essay Philosophy as a Way of Life. If you have trouble accessing it, send the host a messageâextra copies are available.

From Web Forms to Web Components - Burton Smith
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. Weâll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from serverâdriven controls, and why theyâre becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether youâre maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, youâll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standardsâbased way.
