You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **torontohistorywalks@gmail.com** In the photo above from the Toronto Public Library archive is an old St. James receipt from the mid 1800s. Prior to 1844, the lands east of Parliament Street were known as the Garrison East for military purposes. York, and then Toronto was restricted to the land south of Queen Street or Lot Street from Parliament to Peter Street and Fort York to the west. With the population starting to rise, space was needed for a new cemetery out on the country, as space was limited at the original cemetery at St. James Church downtown on Church Street. In July 1844 St. James opened for the burial of people professing the Anglican faith. Most of the city's population of 18,000 lived south of Lot Street or today's Queen Street, and the cemetery was regarded to be outside the city limits. The cemetery was necessary as the church burial ground itself was filling up fast. It was in use since 1797. A crematorium was added in 1948, and 95,000 interments and 114,000 cremations have taken place at St. James. An historic land in the heart of the city. In many ways a walk through St. James is a walk through history. Like opening a book on our past! This walking tour is for all levels and walkers. The tour begins outside the Castle Frank Subway Station, and ends at the gates of the cemetery after the tour. This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person. \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket amount when booking your space for this tour! Toronto Islands Sunset Stroll. Dog friendly
Toronto Islands Sunset Stroll. Dog friendly
NOTE - it often faster to [buy your ferry ticket online in advance](https://secure.toronto.ca/FerryTicketOnline/tickets2/index.jsp) End your week with some surf, sand, and fun. I love to show off this magical place to both longtime visitors and people discovering them for the first time too. The Toronto Islands are one of my favourite spots in all of the city for a multitude of reasons. Long to learn more about the rich history of the Toronto Islands? Participants will spot some amazing houses, creep by a haunted lighthouse, walk on a rainbow, see a giant hedge maze, and more. This is a dog friendly walk . So leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome. We will take the 6:45PM ferry to Hanlan's Point. All participants are responsible for their ferry fares. We will walk from Hanlan's Point to Ward's Island with some brief stops along the way. We will return on the 9:45PM ferry from Ward's Island. While paths are all lit, participants may want to bring headlights/flashlights for improved visibility. Upon arrival, pay your ferry fare and then look for me in the waiting area. I'll be holding a Meetup sign. I may even borrow a dog or two for this adventure. **NOTE** \- remember that you can just show up if unsure of your schedule

🌿🌊 TOMMY THOMPSON PARK WALK & LIGHTHOUSE ADVENTURE (12KM) 🌊🌿
🌿🌊 TOMMY THOMPSON PARK WALK & LIGHTHOUSE ADVENTURE 🌊🌿 Wildlife, Skyline Views & One of Toronto’s Most Unique Nature Escapes If you’ve never been to Tommy Thompson Park before, it honestly doesn’t feel like Toronto. Stretching out into Lake Ontario, Tommy Thompson Park is one of the city’s best places to experience nature, open space, and some surprisingly stunning skyline views. Known for birdwatching, wildlife, and peaceful trails, the park is home to over 300 species of birds and has become one of Toronto’s most important urban nature areas. And somehow… even with the city skyline right beside you, it can feel incredibly quiet out there. This is a longer social walk focused on nature, conversation, and exploring some of the park’s hidden corners together. 📲 **Join Our WhatsApp Group:**[ Click here to join](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DRFTkxRlHS4B3IL1lMleUd) \*\*\* 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll begin our walk near the pavilion and make our way through both the main trails and some of the quieter side paths throughout the park. We’ll: 🌿 Explore some off-road nature trails 🌊 Walk along the waterfront 📸 Stop for skyline and lake views 🕊️ Keep an eye out for birds and wildlife 🚨 Head all the way to the lighthouse for a break Afterward, we’ll make our way back through the park together. And for anyone who wants to keep socializing after the walk, we’ll head over to Wendy’s and Tim Hortons nearby for food, drinks, and conversation. ☕🍔 Sometimes the chats after the walk become the best part of the day. \*\*\* ⚠️ Walk Expectations Please note: This is a LONG walk. The full walk will take approximately: ⏰ 3+ hours including breaks You should be comfortable: ✔️ Walking at a steady pace ✔️ Being active for several hours ✔️ Walking on gravel, uneven paths, and nature trails If you are not currently able to walk long distances comfortably, this may not be the best event for you. 🚫 **Also important:** NO DOGS are allowed in the park (park rules, not ours!) \*\*\* 🌦️ Weather & Conditions This event happens rain or shine. Please come prepared for: ☀️ Full sun exposure 💨 Wind near the lake 🌿 Dusty or uneven trails 🥵 Warmer temperatures depending on the weather \*\*\* 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: Beside the pavilion/washrooms near the park entrance 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations. If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!). **HOW IT WORKS** **Step 1: Bring a topic** Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event. **Step 2: Circle up & share** We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds. **Step 3: Walk, talk & float** We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!" **Step 4: Feel more alive** Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times. *For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)* **HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC** A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about. Recent topics include: * "What are you passionate about right now?" * "What makes a good friend?" * "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?" * "How do you want to be remembered?" * "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?" Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. **WHAT TO EXPECT** This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.* But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here. **FAQ** * Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk! * We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space. * We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space. * Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know. * Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic! **LOGISTICS** * If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event. * This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs. * Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details. * If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋 **IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...** [The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up. * This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
