Calm Beltline Trail Walk: Caledonia LRT Station to Davisville Station
**Calm Beltline Trail Walk: Caledonia Station to Davisville Station**
Join us for a relaxed, no-pressure walk along Torontoโs Beltline Trail, from **Caledonia Station to Davisville Station**.
This route follows part of the old **Toronto Belt Line Railway**, a former rail corridor that once looped around midtown Toronto. Today, much of that railway space has been turned into a peaceful linear trail, connecting neighbourhoods through tree-lined paths, quiet residential areas, bridges, and green spaces. The Kay Gardner section of the Beltline is especially meaningful because local advocates helped protect the old rail corridor from private development and turn it into a public trail and park.
Weโll start near **Caledonia Station** and walk east along the York Beltline and Kay Gardner Beltline Trail toward **Davisville Station**. The route is mostly flat and follows a calm, easy-to-navigate path. Itโs a nice mix of city and nature: trees, open trail sections, quiet crossings, and little reminders of the railway history along the way.
As always, this is a low-pressure walk. Youโre welcome to chat, walk quietly, or move between the two. There are no icebreakers, no networking, and no expectation to socialize in any particular way. Just showing up and being present is enough.
**Date:** Sunday, May 31, 2026
**Time:** 2:30 PM โ 4:30 PM
**Meeting point:** Caledonia Station Main Entrance ([The Eglinton Ave West Exit](https://maps.app.goo.gl/NYVTYdDcK7sxHDiC6))
**End point:** Davisville Station
**Route:** Caledonia LRT Station to Davisville Station via the Beltline Trail ([https://maps.app.goo.gl/z41TLM6DjPvMVcTP7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/z41TLM6DjPvMVcTP7))
**Distance:** About 7.5 km
**Pace:** Comfortable walking pace, with short pauses as needed
Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start walking at **2:30 PM**.
### What to wear
Wear comfortable shoes suitable for a longer city trail walk. The route is mostly flat, but weโll still be walking for around an hour and a half, so comfort matters more than style.
Weโll finish near **Davisville Station**, so it will be easy to head home by TTC afterward.
Looking forward to a calm Sunday walk together.

Real Trails, A Solid Climb & An Ice Cream Finish
Toronto doesnโt have many *true* hiking experiences โ but this is one of them.
Join us for a more active, nature-focused walk through Crothers Woods, one of the cityโs best spots if youโre looking for something that actually feels like a hike.
This isnโt your typical flat city stroll.
There are hills, forest paths, and a proper climb โ especially at the end (Pottery Road ๐).
But donโt worryโฆ weโve got a reward waiting.
This is not a formal tour.
Itโs a social hike โ a bit more effort, a bit more nature, and a great group to do it with.

**๐ถโโ๏ธ What Weโll Do**
Weโll start at Broadview Station and head south along Broadview before making our way down Pottery Road into the Don Valley.
From there, weโll connect to the Don Valley trails and enter Crothers Woods, where weโll hike through forested paths and take a short break along the way.
After the hike, weโll make our way back โ finishing with the climb up Pottery Road (the final challenge ๐ช).
And thenโฆ we reward ourselves with a stop at Dairy Queen for some well-earned ice cream. ๐ฆ
Weโll end back near Broadview Station.
\*\*\*
๐ฆ๏ธ **Weather & Expectations**
This hike happens rain or shine.
Please come prepared โ trails may be muddy, and conditions can vary.
This is a slightly more challenging walk than most of our events:
โ๏ธ Uneven trails
โ๏ธ Some hills
โ๏ธ One bigger climb at the end
Good footwear is important.
Also โ this is NOT a guided or historical tour. Itโs about movement, nature, and being social.

Kick-off Riverdale Park 5K Run / Walk / Jog
I think we're ready to start this group's running season! 5K every week till the snows come down! Or try to! This seems like a good Sunday to start as the temperature and sunlight should all be moderate. Also, plenty of time to prepare with stretch and strength if you haven't run since last year!
BTW, I've learned there is a lot of benefit to starting with slow jogging - rather than walking. Please look that up, if you are slow - like me - and want to improve your endurance, consistency, aerobic and anaerobic capacity.
We'll meet by the track. I'll be there early to warm up. We will start the 5K exactly at 9:30am. As mentioned in the About Us,
* Using the park track we can all go at our own pace and never really be left behind unless we all finish way ahead of you. :D I think an hour is enough time to dedicate to the run. I'm pretty slow, so you will likely have me around for most of the hour.
* Members are free to leave the run whenever they want.
* Bring your kids, your pets, your partners, etc.
* All encouraged to stick around afterwards and enjoy the park or neighbourhood on your own.
* Let's get stronger, healthier and foster a great community at the same time.
* As part of our kick-off, I am open to heading off to get some brunch on the Danforth afterwards, if anybody is interested! Lots of great options there!
We also welcome runners who are not in our neighbourhood and want to join us spiritually and run from their own neighbourhoods. :-) Imagine how much healthier and communal the world would be if we all stopped for an hour once in a while to run together; re-centring and re-charging together?

Trails & Ales! Chestnut Ridge Metro Park / BrewDog DogTap
**History**
[Chestnut Ridge Metro Park](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/chestnut-ridge/) is historically significant because it sits on a 300-million-year-old outcropping of Blackhand sandstone. Geographically recognized as the very first foothill of the Appalachian Mountains, the ridge rises 1,116 feet above sea level. Long before European settlement, the land served as a sacred site for ancient civilizations. The park contains the Old Maid's Orchard Mound, an eight-foot-tall burial mound constructed by the Adena culture between 1000 B.C. and 100 B.C. This ancient landmark has remained largely intact and is now protected on the National Register of Historic Places.
The documented modern history of the land began with an official survey conducted by Ebenezer Buckingham in 1801. Original land deeds of sale from this period notably bear the signatures of United States Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. In the 1830s, Irish laborers arrived at the ridge to quarry its rich Blackhand sandstone. The blocks they hewed were used to build the crucial locks for the nearby Ohio and Erie Canal. Remnants of this early sandstone quarrying operation can still be spotted by sharp-eyed hikers along the modern trails.
Agricultural transformation defined the ridge throughout the mid-to-late 19th century. Settlers discovered that the high elevation created a natural air flow that prevented late-season frost damage to crops. Extensive fruit orchards were planted across the slopes between 1860 and 1880. One notable orchard was established by John Wagner, a Spanish-American War veteran who chose the ridge specifically for its proximity to the bustling Columbus market. The park's current name pays homage to the massive American chestnut trees that once dominated the ridgeline before a devastating ecological blight wiped them out in the early 20th century.
The conservation story of the modern 486-acre park began in March 1962. The Metro Parks board announced land acquisition plans to block developers from building a residential housing development called Chestnut Heights. Director-Secretary Walter A. Tucker advocated heavily for the purchase, citing the ridge's immense value as a scenic overlook for central Ohio. The district systematically purchased multiple agricultural parcels over the next two decades. After operating strictly as undeveloped farmland through the 1970s, Chestnut Ridge Metro Park officially opened to the public on December 18, 1988.
In recent decades, the park has evolved from a quiet hiking spot into a premier regional destination for outdoor sports. A major turning point occurred in 2010 when the Central Ohio Mountain Biking Organization (COMBO) partnered with the park district to develop new infrastructure. Volunteers worked extensively to construct a single-track mountain bike trail, which officially opened in October 2011. An expert gravity and flow trail featuring advanced jumps was later integrated into the loop in 2016. Today, the park successfully balances its deep ancient, industrial, and agricultural history with active recreation.
**Map of the Park**
Here is a [map of Chestnut Ridge](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/CHR_map_1980px_2026.jpg).
**Summary**
For this event, we will hike the Ridge, Meadows, and Homesite Trails, and Law's Lane, which is unmarked on some maps. None of these trails is individually very long, so we will hike a few permutations and loops until we get in 4-5 miles. The hike will be moderately strenuous.
**Where We'll Meet**
Drive to the rearmost picnic area at the back of the park. There's a latrine here, but there's no water fountain here or anywhere else at Chestnut Ridge. I strongly recommend you bring some water of your own, at least for after the hike.
Cell service at the park is spotty, although your GPS will get you there just fine. The map pin I've provided here is exactly where we'll be meeting and should be able to be used directly in Google Maps, although Chestnut Ridge isn't big and you're unlikely to get lost here.
**After the Hike**
Afterward, we'll head over to [BrewDog DogTap](https://drink.brewdog.com/usa/brewdog-dogtap-columbus) for [drinks](https://usa.brewdog.com/pages/brewdog-lineup) and [food](https://usa.brewdog.com/cdn/shop/files/DogTap_Menu_2025_65e1ff8b-97d4-4f26-80f1-68321d482025.pdf?v=17356939232910340498). They also have an outdoor area that's extremely popular.
I've had their burgers and their pizza, and I think they're both very good. I also really like their [Cold Beer](https://usa.brewdog.com/products/cold-beer-2024) (that's its actual name), which is their American light lager.
BrewDog's actual address is [96 Gender Rd, Canal Winchester, OH 43110](https://www.google.com/maps/place/96+Gender+Rd,+Canal+Winchester,+OH+43110/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x88387c06afa21a85:0x804c611d373d8c54?sa=X&ved=1t:242&ictx=111), and they have a large, free parking lot. We should be there by 5 if you can't make the hike and just want to join us for drinks.
