CI Optimization: Built-In Flags You're Probably Not Using [🚨RSVP on LUMA🚨]
🚨👉 To RSVP for this event, head to our [Luma event page](https://luma.com/7h4g008b). RSVPs are intentionally closed on Meetup.👈🚨 [https://luma.com/7h4g008b](https://luma.com/7h4g008b) To stay up-to-date with our latest events, please subscribe to our luma calendar here: [https://luma.com/techtank](https://luma.com/techtank) **Long CI times slowing down your development workflow?** Many teams assume improving CI performance requires new infrastructure, expensive tools, or major changes to their workflow. But in many cases, the tools you're already using include built-in flags that can significantly reduce CI time — they're just often overlooked. In this talk, **[Emily Xiong](https://www.linkedin.com/in/xiongemi/)** (Software Developer @ StackAdapt) will share how small configuration changes in common JavaScript tooling can lead to meaningful CI speedups, faster feedback loops, and a better developer experience. The core idea is simple: **you can often reduce CI time significantly without adding new infrastructure, SaaS, or complex changes.** Most JavaScript tooling already includes flags for caching, concurrency, and smarter execution. The real challenge isn't availability — it's awareness and correct setup in CI environments. Emily will walk through practical examples using tools many teams already rely on, including: * ESLint * Jest * Playwright * Next.js If you work on large codebases, monorepos, or pipelines that take longer than you'd like, this talk will show how **small adjustments to existing tooling can make a big difference.** *** ## About the Speaker **[Emily Xiong](https://www.linkedin.com/in/xiongemi/)** is a software engineer with 10+ years of experience building and scaling products in enterprise environments. She's experienced the industry’s ups and downs (including layoffs), which has shaped her resilience and focus on continuous growth. Emily is particularly passionate about developer experience, tackling challenges like large monorepos and long CI times. She stays closely tuned to developments in AI, both excited and a little cautious about where the industry is heading, and she enjoys blogging to explore ideas and share what she's learning. *** ## Important Notes for RSVPs **RSVP Commitment** If you RSVP and can no longer attend, please update your RSVP at least 24 hours in advance. SQUARE ONE - Practical Philosophy Meetup 🇨🇦
SQUARE ONE - Practical Philosophy Meetup 🇨🇦
**🏛️ WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?** Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎 Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic. The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌 **📓 HOW DOES IT WORK?** Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://tally.so/r/81LP4A), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going. When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture. **General Meeting Agenda** Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline: * 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the official start. * 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines. * 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them. * 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo. * 21:00 - The official meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other. **🧧PRICING?** Practical Philosophy is operated entirely on voluntary donations! If we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Donations are 100% voluntary, but they help us to bring the gift of deep conversation to people around the world. If you'd like to support, you can [donate here](https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/donate-to-practical-philosophy)! (Practical Philosophy is a registered Canadian charity) **💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY** **🗣** “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right and wrong” - Ekam 🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.” - Daniel **🤓 FAQ** * **Do I need to study or read anything to attend?** No preparation is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know what you think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and we’ll discuss it. * **Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?** The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school. * **Is it mostly men that attend?** Surprisingly, no! Although often, philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we don’t meet in any dark rooms. * **Can I come alone?** Of course you can, we encourage it :) * **Can I be late?** Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation. * **Where do you meet?** The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/81LP4A) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/). 🤝**POLICY** To respect our members privacy, we ask that no one privately message a member without first getting explicit consent. (This looks like speaking in person and being asked to message privately.) Contacting or texting other participants without prior consent is not permitted and may result in removal from the group. Practical Philosophy reserves the right to enforce this policy at its discretion to maintain a safe and respectful environment. **PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY CLUB - Philosophy, everywhere. ✨** We started in Practical Philosophy back in 2021 and there are now 50+ chapters in 25+ countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! 🗺️ **\*\*\*** **Join our [Mississauga Whatsapp](https://tally.so/r/81LP4A) 👈** **Follow us on [Instagram](instagram.com/practicalphilosophyclub/) 👈** **Our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/) 👈**

FYI: Inquisition Trivia demo
You've heard Michelle and I talking about the league we play in on Mondays. Here's your chance to see what all the fuss is about. They are holding a demonstration event at the Churchmouse & Firkin. The plan is to have three rounds of questions played by league players in the panel format. The audience will have a chance at any questions that the teams miss. This will give a demonstration of the gamestyle. The remaining questions will be played by everyone in standard pub-style format, so everyone can see the level of questions. The league is always looking for new players and teams, so yes, this is a recruiting event. Should also be a lot of fun.

Building Productive AI Agents: from Notion Agent to Founder-AI Execution
Building Productive AI Agents: from Notion Agent to Founder-AI Execution
🚀 Join ProductTank Toronto for a night exploring how product people and founders are building **productive AI agents**—from configuring Notion agents to orchestrating systems that design, build, and ship real products. This session is all about **execution**: how AI moves beyond experimentation into real workflows that extend your capacity and actually get things done. If you've attended a Notion Toronto Community event before, you may already know our speakers. This time, they’re bringing their real-world AI practices to the ProductTank stage. Featuring: [Dave Mence](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dave-mence/) and [Josh Gonsalves](https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshgonsalves94/) ## 🎤 **Dave Menceles, Program Ops Manager @ Notion** ***Quality In, Quality Out: Putting in the Human Work to Make AI Agents Shine*** **About Dave:** Dave manages operations for a group of 120+ third-party Notion experts in one of Notion’s certified consultants programs. He leans on a handful of Notion Custom Agents to help him perform his day-to-day work that would otherwise extend way beyond his individual bandwidth. **About his talk:** Dave will share how his Q&A agent helps to support the members of his program with the deep program knowledge he’s imparted to the agent. He’ll also give an short guide on how to set up your own Notion Custom Agents that can work around the clock to perform helpful work on your behalf. ## **Josh Gonsalves, Founder @ Contraverse** **AI That Builds AI: Orchestrating Agents Into a Real Product Team** **About Josh:** Josh is a Toronto-based founder building Formive, an AI platform for creating and sharing powerful AI tools and lead magnets without any code. His work focuses on turning AI into a leveraged system that can research, plan, build, and ship real products autonomously. He hasn’t written a single line of code. Instead, he directs AI systems that do. **About his talk:** Josh will break down how he uses AI coding tools like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor as a coordinated team of AI designers and engineers to build and ship a real product from scratch. He will show how Agent Skills, MCPs, and structured workflows enable these models to collaborate, handling everything from product research and planning to coding, review, bug fixing and shipping production-ready software. This talk are especially **relevant for non-technical** founders and Product Managers. It demonstrates how you can create solid, production-ready software without being a traditional developer by directing systems instead of writing every line yourself. Spots are limited—see you there! 📍 BrainStation @ The Well 🗓️ Thursday\, Apr 16th\, 2025 \| 6:00 p\.m\. \- 8:00 p\.m\. 🎟️ Free to attend [hashtag#ProductManagement](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23productmanagement&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED) [hashtag#AIForPMs](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23aiforpms&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED) [hashtag#TorontoTech](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23torontotech&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED) [hashtag#ProductTank](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23producttank&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED) [hashtag#AIExecution](https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/all/?keywords=%23aiexecution&origin=HASH_TAG_FROM_FEED)

You can e-transfer to the following email at:** **[torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com/)** This is an updated tour to the original Ward Tour introduced back in 2020. It brings in a new crop of landmarks that tell the tale of Toronto's first suburb Macaulaytown, on the property of James Macaulay. The Ward, Toronto's first suburb, first immigrant community and first large scale urban renewal project is a neighbourhood that dates to the beginnings of local history. Bounded by Yonge Street on the east, College Street on the north, University on the West, and Queen Street on the south, is a history walkers dream. But before the area developed and a civic square was even dreamed of, it was forest on the edge of Little York, with a clear flowing creek, named Taddle at its centre. A few years later James Macaulay established himself in the area northwest of the town of York. By mid-century the winds of change brought in Chinese rail workers and Jewish immigrants, mostly from Eastern Europe. The face of The Ward changed once again, but this time the ugly realties of racial injustice were prominent. With the building of the new Toronto General Hospital in 1909 the area reinvented itself, and the mass migration of jewish residents to the Kensington Market area to the west started. The Ward changed again and the idea that the area could be a pedestrian square with a new town hall at its centre took shape. And the rest as they say is history, Toronto got its new civic square and Toronto a new voice at the dawn of a new era in city building. The ward is a fascinating look at life in Toronto in the late 19th, 20th, and 21 century. For a quick preview of the walk click on the following link and enjoy https://youtu.be/4QEHjfuhmik This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. All About the Historic Beaches! (EVENING EXTENDED TOUR)
All About the Historic Beaches! (EVENING EXTENDED TOUR)
\*\***The Toronto History Walks Yearly Pass is available. Get it now for $125.00 for 1 year of unlimited tours, email** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) **for more information or for signing up!\*\*** \*\* **Please note: Please e-transfer the ticket price when booking your space for this tour! You can e-transfer to the following email at:** [torontohistorywalks@gmail.com](http://torontohistorywalks@gmail.com%2A%2A/) The area was first settled in 1794 by the Ashbridge family, whose name is remembered by the nearby bay and park. Their homestead on Queen Street East was well to the west of the area currently identified as the Beaches. A later generation of the Ashbridge family rebuilt the family home in 1854 and can be seen on Queen Street East opposite the TTC barns near Kingston Road. The Beaches remained a sparely settled community until the end of the 19th century when extension of the Grand Truck Railway, the draining of the northern parts of Ashbridges Bay, and the construction of street car tracks on Queen Street and Kingston Road, opened the area to settlement. From Sunnyside Amusement Park built in 1922 to Scarboro Beach built in 1906, it seemed that Toronto cornered the market on summertime chills and thrills. We had 5 major amusement parks along our waterfront, and two smaller parks, Victoria Park and Munro Park, virtually unknown to Torontonians today, but extremely popular summertime places, years ago as pleasure parks. This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of history. It begins outside the Beaches Branch of the Toronto Public Library at Queen Street East, and Lee Avenue adjacent to Kew Gardens. The tour ends at the Neville Park Queen Street Streetcar Loop. Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together. Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions. If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming! Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event! Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event! **Discord**: We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event! https://discord.gg/yvAGbh4PpD **Event policy**: * We have 0 tolerance for harassment. * We don’t allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets. * The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do. * Please buy a drink, and tip the barista well.

This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise. We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration. The Story So Far: A WiA Reflection Circle
The Story So Far: A WiA Reflection Circle
A WiA Collective Wisdom Exchange At the start of this year, we gathered to look back, set intentions, and imagine the next chapter. This is the follow-up. Not a check-in. Not a progress report. A small, facilitated circle to reconnect with what you said mattered — and honestly explore what’s actually happening now. Together, we’ll explore: • What you intended at the start of this year - and what that looks like three months in • What’s surprised you, supported you, or shifted • What the next chapter needs now that you know what you know If you were at our January gathering, bring whatever you made or wrote — your word, your artifact, your intention. We’ll look at it with fresh eyes. If this is your first time, you belong here too. You’ll start where we all started: with what’s true right now. Optional art materials will be available for anyone who wants to reflect creatively alongside conversation. If you brought something home from January, you’re warmly invited to bring it back. The intention is the same as always: everyone leaves feeling more clear, more connected, and a little lighter. Space is intentionally limited to keep the experience intimate. What to Expect • A small, welcoming circle (not a large meetup) • Structured conversation so everyone has space to speak • Reflection, listening, and lived experience — not advice-giving • Optional creative reflection alongside conversation • A calm, supportive environment Who This Is For Women and underrepresented folks working in or around agile, product, technology, leadership, or organizational change — especially those looking for honest conversation and community beyond frameworks and buzzwords. Good to Know • No preparation required • If you attended in January, we invite you to bring anything you created or wrote (or something that represents your intention at the start of the year) - it’s optional but invited • Participation is invitational; listening is always welcome • Creative activities are optional

Columbus Code & Coffee 85 @ Improving
Columbus Code & Coffee is an inclusive, informal co-working session. People of all skill levels attend, and we love it that way. Many people (optionally) bring projects to work on, and many other people (optionally) socialize the entire time. It's entirely up to you! **What to Expect at the Intro Circle** \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ Near the beginning of the event (1:30 pm), we do a standup: * Organizer announcements, updates, and logistics Round 1 - (7 secs max): * Your name * What you're working on * What you can help others with Round 2: * Community events you wanna plug. If none, that's cool too. Round 3: * Job opportunities you're hiring for OR announce that you are looking for one. If none, that's cool. After the introduction circle, everything is self-organized! Feel free to work alone, pair up, attend one of our workshops/presentations, or mingle!
