Khobar English Book Club — Meetup #1
Khobar English Book Club — Meetup #1
📚 Khobar English Book Club — Meetup #1 Every week at Khobar English Book Club, our members meet to discuss a piece of literature that we are all reading - the description for this week's meet up is below. 📖 Current Read: *Metamorphosis*, Franz Kafka This week, we’ll be discussing Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka’s haunting and endlessly thought-provoking novella. The story begins with one of the most famous openings in literature: Gregor Samsa wakes one morning to discover that he has transformed into a gigantic insect. What follows is a strange, unsettling, and surprisingly human exploration of identity, family, duty, isolation, and what it means to be valued by those around us. Both darkly humorous and deeply moving, Metamorphosis has captivated readers for over a century and continues to spark debate, interpretation, and reflection. Whether you read it as a psychological study, a social critique, or an existential masterpiece, there will be plenty to discuss. 🗓 Meetup Details **Date**: Saturday, 20 June at 10:30am **Reading Goal**: Before the meetup, please read the novella in full (~70 pages.) **Location**: SA'AH Cafe 🔍 Where to Find the Book The novella is widely available online as a PDF and can also be ordered online in physical format. You may also find copies at Jarir Bookstore. 💬 What to Expect This is not a super structured event, but generally we’ll chat about: • the book — parts of the story/ideas/characters/writing that we found interesting, meaningful, funny, thought-provoking etc. Also, aspects of the book that maybe we didn't like! • books, literature, reading in general. If you feel inclined, you can bring: • specific passages you liked • questions or discussion prompts • suggestions for the next book 🤝 A Quick Note on RSVPs These events are **free and informal**, but **spots are limited**. In the spirit of community and courtesy, if you’ve clicked ‘Going’ but can’t make it anymore, please switch to ‘Not Going’ so someone else can take your spot.

Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs. In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling. The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options. **YouTube Link** TBD

On Thursday, June 18, 2026, we will meet in the 700N Conference Room at 700 N Hurstbourne Pkwy for a special Louisville .NET Meetup as we host **Microsoft Build //localhost:louisville**. The session will also be streamed at **[https://twitch.tv/TaleLearnCode](https://twitch.tv/TaleLearnCode)**. This month, we’ll dive into the most important announcements from **Microsoft Build 2026**. Chad Green will present a curated, developer‑focused walkthrough of the new capabilities across .NET, Azure, AI, developer tooling, and platform updates. We’ll explore what these announcements mean for architects and developers, how they fit into real‑world solutions, and which changes you can start applying immediately in your projects. And then, Rob Richardson will present: ### **GitOps: Easy Deploy and Even Easier Rollback** GitOps isn't just for containers. The methodology of deploying from a build is now baked into our culture. Take it a touch farther with infrastructure as code and a few extra techniques, and you can reliably deploy to any platform: cloud, on-prem, container, PaaS, and more. Join us as we learn the methodology of GitOps, the critical pieces you need in place, and the elegance of rollbacks with GitOps. You'll leave with a working repo of deployment techniques that doesn't consume any paid tools or container-specific techniques. **Important:** To participate fully, please RSVP in **both** places: * **Louisville .NET Meetup** (this page) * **Microsoft Build //localhost:louisville registration**: [https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/reactor/events/27112/](https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/reactor/events/27112/) After the session, we’ll head to Brick House Tavern to continue the conversation over food and drinks.
