Defensive Skills & Setting Camp

**Defensive Skills & Setting Camp**
This camp is designed for **adult volleyball players (ages 20 & above)** looking to improve their defensive & setting skills. Ideal for **all skill levels**, this camp offers an opportunity to receive skill instruction from George Washington's coaching staff. Defense & Setting Skills Camp is designed to develop well-rounded back-row defenders and setters by blending high-level defensive training with position-specific setting work. This session allows defenders to sharpen their floor skills while providing setters with focused, individualized technical training.
**What to Expect:**
Players will work on defensive techniques including platform control, reading hitters, movement patterns, & ball tracking in fast-paced, game-like drills. Back-row defenders will also learn how to set out-of-system to expand their skill set & decision-making. Setters will receive high-level 1v1 technical training while also spending time working on their own defense & blocking, helping them become more complete, well-rounded players on the court. We will spend the first hour & a half on skill instruction & the last 30 minutes playing competitive 6v6. 6v6 play will be recorded & distributed to participants so you can track your progress!

Monday Courthouse Run - 40 Min

We usually head out for a drink after the run. So if you're planning to stay after for drinks, bring your ID/etc.

If you're not familiar with the area, please review the routes. If it's cold, take cover inside the foyer area of 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

We'll alternate between the following routes. Both routes are hilly. We'll run 20 minutes out and then turn around and run 20 minutes back to Courthouse. Everyone runs at his/her own pace, so the distance will depend on your speed.

Pace:
All paces are welcome! We'll be doing an out and back route, so everyone will just turn around at the halfway time marker. That way we should all start and end at the same time.
Free Parking at Courthouse Plaza:
The underground garage (http://tiny.cc/OmKZx) is on Clarendon Blvd btwn Wayne and Veitch Sts. (near Strayer/CVS and the AMC Theater). If the first 2 levels on the left are full, you can park on the lower levels to the right. Street and Surface Parking lots should be free in the area as well.

This our weekly game night event! We start at 6pm so that we can get dinner from Aslin Taproom. Come join us and maybe meet some new friends as we play games ranging from Fluxx to Ricochet Robots to Ticket to Ride to Saboteur to Cards Against Humanity (and many others).

Monday 3.0 and above tennis at Woodley Gardens
• If you RSVP for an event, please attend that event or cancel at least two hours before the event starts. Members that no-show will receive one warning then will be benched (suspended) from events for two weeks. Three no-shows can result in a permanent ban. (No-shows create uneven numbers and prevent folks on the waitlist from playing. Please do your part to un-RSVP as soon as you know that you cannot attend an event.)
• Members must have a way to communicate with organizers and hosts. This can be through the Meetup app messages or by providing other contact info.
• Any member can ask a host or organizer to have their skill rated for event attendance purposes. You will not be allowed to participate in events higher than your NTRP rating. (We may try to limit numbers or have multiple events on a given day to accommodate players of different skill levels and also to help alleviate the court availability problem).
• All members shall conduct good sportsmanship and be courteous to other members at all times.
• Sexual harassment, racism, sexism or any kind of intolerance will not be tolerated and will result in the permanent ban from the group.
• If member receives three warning infractions, the member will be suspended from the Meetup for a period of one month. If a member is suspended twice (six warnings), that member will be permanently banned and any membership dues will then be forfeited.
• If you are scheduling to play with others outside of a MoCo Topspinners event, and you know that there is a MoCo Topspinners event scheduled for that day at that time, please try to use courts other than the courts where the event is scheduled, or move your time so that it does not conflict with the Topspinners event.

Classic Hikes - Day hike - Old Rag Mountain
***READ THE WHOLE EVENT DESCRIPTION before you RSVP***
The Old Rag Mountain hike in the Shenandoah National Park is one of the most popular hikes in the mid-Atlantic region.
With many spectacular panoramic views, and one of the most challenging rock scrambles in the park, this circuit hike is a favorite of many hikers. it's the only hike we give a 5 of 5 star rating to for views. Many hikers also prefer to do this loop clockwise, rock scramble on the Ridge Trail and them easy walk on the downhill.
Either way, the rock scramble can be challenging, being both steep, and requiring climbing through cracks in the rock.
**Meetup location:** Vienna Metro Station
**Time:** 7am
or Old Rag Mountain trail head Saturday 9am.
If driving to trailhead be on time, we won't wait for you if running late.
**Hike star time: 9 am**
**Pace:** Easy - Moderate 2 -2.5miles x hr
**Gear required:** Depending on weather conditions - Wool cap-extra layers-rain suite (just in case), bug spray-water & snacks
**Visitors to Old Rag Mountain**, including hikers on the Saddle, Ridge, and Ridge Access trails, will need to obtain an Old Rag day-use ticket in advance, in addition to a Park entrance pass.

Fairland Intermediate Ride (Parking @ The Ice House)
Come join us for a 11-12 mile ride at a Fairland. We normally average 9-10mph. This is now a night ride and lights are required.
Wheels rolling at 6pm unless someone texts me they're running a little late.
We normally do 10-12 miles, and average 10mph. This ride is more for faster than average riders due to the pace. We wait up at intersections to let all riders catch up. If you have a good amount of rides under your belt and can average 8mph or better on singletrack trails, and take small brakes, then you will probably will be able to hang but it will be a challenge.
About Fairland: 90% non-technical ride with few major climbs and no mandatory obstacles (they all have ride-arounds). Promise, no rocks. None! (there is one section of busted-up concrete, but it's not rocks, and it's only 10-15 feet long). Anyway, there are a couple good places to stop and practice log-overs, and balance on the boardwalks, and some good flow trails. We will visit the skills pit but be advised, there are drops, jumps, skinnies, and overall technical features that will require the appropriate experience. Always take caution and know your technical ability limits.

What to bring: Plenty of water, helmet (no helmet no ride), your mtb of course!, multi-tool (although you can borrow mine), patch kit, extra tube (make sure it has the same valve you need for your wheel), a snack if you're doing both loops. Please join us the 3rd Wednesday of each month to learn more about the Columbus Ski Club and what we have to offer. Pizza, wings and a variety of appetizers provided. We are a non-profit organization founded in 1958 with over 800 members. The club has grown beyond the single mission of providing members with not only quality skiing events but also year round social and sport activities. Our gatherings are an opportunity for members and non-members to interact and learn about the many activities offered such as euchre, billiards, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, bowling, golf & softball leagues along with ski and non-ski trips. Our members also plan group activities such as visits to wine tastings, bike trips, comedy clubs, concerts, plays and local sports games, etc.
CSC membership is not required to belong to the Meetup group. Membership is required in order to participate in most club activities (CSC member). However, anyone (21 and over) is welcome at our meeting gatherings which consist of checking out our current activities and socializing. Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels.
