Queer Spirit Full Moon Imbolc Circle
Radical Faeries and Queer Spirits gather in south London just before the Virgo full moon, the last full moon of winter!
This month we celebrate London's gay history - and specifically the spirit of the Mollies: 300 years ago London's queer subculture was already developing (and maybe had been for much longer). In February 1726 London's molly houses were raided, mollies arrested, tried and 3 men were sent to the gallows.
Mother Clap's molly house in Holborn was one of several establishments raided after an undercover surveillance operation by members of the Society for the Reformation of Manners, which had been exposing the existence of mollies since the start of the century - describing a scene that was already well formed: groups of men met regularly at molly ‘clubs’ where they used ‘maiden’ nicknames for one another, danced together, camped it up, sometimes dressed in drag on special ‘festival nights’, and had a specialized molly slang.
"Most of the sodomites convicted from 1698 through 1709 were entrapped due to the zeal of one man, Rev William Bray, the leading organizer of the Society for the Reformation of Manners. Most of the raids on molly houses through the 1720s were lead by six members of the Society who infiltrated the molly houses. The founding leaders of the Societies, such as Rev Bray, were dead by 1730, and due to a financial scandal the Societies formally disbanded in 1738. Relatively little is known about the queer subculture after that date: not because queers went underground, but because specific groups of moral reformers no longer worked actively to reveal them." Rictor Norton, A Critique of Social Constructionism and Postmodern Queer Theory, "Queer Subcultures," 24 October 2002, updated 19 June 2008 <[http://www.rictornorton.co.uk/social27.htm](http://www.rictornorton.co.uk/social27.htm?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExMVJ1VUZJR1R1aFdRSzVYanNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7SsobcBWG67Bf1RdAuXPZ0xi6jsMd6mDmb932Wf9OAjUltFUCcDSNi6EUcIA_aem_7xebGXzZ_tJ_GtfA3zScoQ)>
You are invited to dress to express your Faerie or indeed your MOLLY spirit!
We gather from 7 to set up the space and cast circle around 8pm, then drum, dance and socialise through the evening.
There are lots of drums and percussion to use. you can also bring your own.
also welcome to bring snacks to share and your own liquid refreshments

**Basses - Ashley John Long**
**Drums - John Bradford-Jones**
**Chube is a young fusion band based in Cardiff led by Ben Creighton Griffiths (Electric Harp/Keys) with Ashley John Long and Jon Bradford-Jones (Drums). They draw their inspiration from a wide variety of artists and genres and write electro acoustic music that pushes the boundaries of their instruments. The harp features prominently in performances, and Ben uses effects processors to take the harp from it's regular, classical sound, to a rock guitar through distortion, an ambient synth through delays and phasers, and much more. Combined with innovative percussion and groovy bass riffs it all goes to creating a totally unique blend of Jazz Fusion.**
**Biog - Chube was set up by Ben Creighton Griffiths (Harp, Keys) and Matt Williams (Drums, Engineering) in 2015. They wrote their first tracks in 2016 before being joined by Aeddan Williams on bass for the recording of their first EP in summer 2017, before releasing it at an exclusive launch show at Tiny Rebel Cardiff in 2018. Since then the project has gone from strength to strength. After the Covid pandemic Ben was joined by Ashley John Long on bass and Jon Bradford Jones on drums, whilst Matt remains with the group as a producer and engineer. Cameron Saint (RWCMD and RAM) regularly takes on bass duties when Ashley is unavailable.**
**Chube has performed at a number of festivals including the Brecon Jazz Festival, In It Together Festival, Harp on Wight, Aberjazz, Croftfest. and Wall2Wall Jazz Festivals - giving a unique recital with special guest Dennis Rollins MBE on trombone at the latter. In 2025 they gave their European debut at the Stellae Matutinae European Harp Symposium in Feldkirch, Austria. In the UK they have performed at many jazz clubs including Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, Black Mountain Jazz Club, Matt & Phred's Jazz Club Manchester, Music Spoken Here Club Worcester, Karamel Club London and Phoenix Foundry Jazz Club Stroud. Other venues they have performed at include The Acorn Penzance, Ashburton Arts, Bridport Arts Center, The Half Moon Putney, and the CICCIC Taunton.**
**Tracks by Chube, including their remix collaboration with BESPA, have been played on BBC Radio Wales Introducing with Adam Walton, BBC Radio 3 Jazz Now, BBC Cymru with Lisa Gwylim, and radio Cardiff multiple times. In 2019 Chube was a finalist for the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. Chube released their second EP in August 2023, breaking new ground, garnering positive reviews, and developing their sound and blend of styles even further.**
**Bandleader Benjamin Creighton Griffiths is an Internationally touring jazz and classical harpist based in Wales. Originally classically trained he now specialises in jazz both as a soloist and with his bands – the Transatlantic Hot Club and Chube. His career has taken him across the world including performing in America, Canada, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, India, Brazil, Australia, China, Indonesia, Singapore and across Europe and has seen him collaborate with excellent musicians in both the classical and jazz world. As well as a performer he is a composer, most recently developing a concert schedule for his own Concerto for Jazz Harp & Symphony Orchestra.**

Circling drop in evening
Circling is a 'present moment relating' practice, sometimes described as a relational meditation. It’s done in a group or with another person and invites feeling into the subtleties of one’s present experience in connection with others, often using words to share that experience.
**There is a beauty and power in the practice of circling and it is not for everyone. The practice may touch on some uncomfortable places, states, sensations or emotions. Circling invites a level of self responsibility and a willingness to set appropriate boundaries. Rather than a safe space think brave space, where we inquire and explore connection together.**
**Please contact me if you would like to discuss further whether the practice might be right for you.**
Both those new to Circling and those with more experience are very welcome.
To reserve your place, transfer £18 via my eventbrite page:
Any questions, please direct message me here or email:
[robyncontact365@gmail.com](http://robyncontact365@gmail.com)
We’ll start at 7pm (arrive from 6.50pm) and aim to finish at 9pm.
Opposite Elephant & Castle tube and Thameslink train station, and numerous bus routes.
The practices of Circling and Authentic Relating are often linked or spoken about together. Authentic Relating emerged from Circling and tends to be more structured, with “games” and sentence stems acting like guide rails for connection. Circling in its purest form is an interpersonal meditation and encourages self leadership, and is less facilitated. Both elicit intimacy and you may find quickly creating deep appreciation of the people you’re with and surprisingly meaningful connections. Always hard to define though and much better, in my opinion, to experience them a few times to really get a sense of the difference/overlaps.
**More about Circling and Terms of Service**
Circling is a practice that involves looking at and being intimate with the structures of one’s personal reality, which includes how we make sense of experience, individually and collectively. We find these practices to consistently deliver deeply meaningful experiences, and believe a few clarifications now will likely make this more accessible to you.
Because Circling is unique, carrying over assumptions from other practices can lead to misunderstandings about who we are, what we do, and how you are invited to engage. It is our intention to make it as clear as we can what Circling is and isn’t.
**Responsibility**
We see you as a free agent capable of honest self-assessment and responsible choice
This is an invitation to take responsibility for:
\- yourself and your experience
\- choices you’re making about what you’re accepting as true and significant
\- how you’re participating in and helping to sustain your situation
\- the beliefs and choices you’re bringing to the situation \(wittingly or unwittingly\) that are informing your experience\.
We refer generally to the willingness to take responsibility in these terms as “owning your experience.”
**Not Psychotherapy**
Circling as we practice it leads to transformational growth, but we do this through surrender, self-leadership, and interconnection rather than aiming for healing outcomes directly (like many modalities do). While honouring a wide variety of wisdom and psychological discernments from many schools of thought, we do not follow a therapeutic model of diagnosis and treatment. Our method is educational. Our emphasis is connection.
We are guides in a journey of presence, connection, and aliveness. We do not prescribe choices or actions. We do not see you as being in a therapeutic relationship with me. We work in the present moment, assuming wholeness that can include greater wholeness, exploring connection, staying mindful to notice the cost of reality choices and labels that too easily lead to misunderstanding or pathologizing. We bring a fresh set of eyes to what is happening, with the aim of understanding how updating our beliefs about what is happening can update our reality.
Circling is a practice of connection and meditation
\- Focus on the present moment\.
\- Maintain a non\-goal orientation that is encapsulated in the principle of “being with the other in their world\."
**Is this Right for You?**
Our workshops can be intense. People encounter places, states, emotions, beliefs, and sensations in themselves and others that are sometimes unfamiliar. We explore the unknown, the volatile, the ambiguous, as well as welcome emotions many deem as “negative” or “inappropriate” such as feelings of inadequacy, anger, sexuality, and joy. We refer to the willingness to feel difficult and uncomfortable truths as the “commitment to connection,” which of course includes a willingness to set appropriate boundaries, and speak a desire for space, distance, and non-contact. By attending our events you take responsibility for choosing to leave the practice or participate in any given moment—which might include getting intimate with these kinds of experiences.
We will often explore multiple sides of seeming opposites at once, such as independence and interdependence, chaos and order, agreement and disagreement. We believe this can reveal an underlying unity of the immediacy of experience.
If the above description of our workshops sounds potentially overwhelming or destabilizing for you, if you have mental illness or significant emotional challenges that you feel may be exacerbated by this type of transformational environment, or if you are not sure that you can be self-directed in taking care of your needs during the event, then we advise you not to enrol.
**By registering you acknowledge that you have read and agree to abide by these Terms of Service.**
The Closing Ritual at Corsica
One of the last rituals,
inside Corsica’s walls.
For the underground,
for what moves beneath it all.
Azu Tiwaline guides the pulse,
raw, organic, deep.
Sounds that don’t just play,
they stay, they seep.
Before the dance, we gather,
arrive, connect, align.
Then we let the ritual
take body, heart, and mind.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Frank Buschelmann**
**Band: The Rosenthorns**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
