Festivus For The Rest Of Us!
Please join members of the Fairlington Social Club as we celebrate "Festivus" on Tuesday December 23, 2025 at Guapo's Mexican restaurant located at 4028 Campbell Avenue Arlington, VA 22206 starting at 5:00 PM.
"Festivus" is your heritage - it's part of who you are!
The five tenets of "Festivus" are:
* "Festivus Pole"
* "Festivus Dinner"
* "Airing of Grievances"
* "Feats of Strength"
* "Festivus Miracle"
We will begin by quaffing margaritas and enjoying chips & salsa (no double dipping) while admiring the "Festivus Pole" comprised of aluminum with a very high strength-to-weight ratio.
After celebrating the "Festivus Dinner", yada... yada... yada... we will continue the quaffage while engaging in practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and the "Feats of Strength."
If you have not yet finished your Christmas Shopping, celebrate a "Festivus Miracle" by making a donation to "The Human Fund" in the name of someone in lieu of buying them a Christmas gift.
Yama-Hama! "Happy Festivus!"
"Festivus" is always celebrated on December 23rd.
Why December 23rd you ask?
You have family & friends coming into town to visit you for Christmas, therefore you need a drink!
You are leaving town for Christmas to visit family & friends, therefore you need a drink!

Christmas Day Open House Drop In Social at Kate's
Kate welcomes anyone from Singlefaith to drop in at her apartment on Christmas Day. Stay a few minutes, stay an hour, stay longer. Noon to 6:00 PM
(I do have one cat, he is friendly, but I can put him in my room if necessary).
Kate will provide cookies, cider, hot cocoa and other non-alcoholic beverages. Feel free to bring an appetizer, snack or other finger food item to share.
3909 Lakehouse Road, Apt #4
Beltsville (Calverton), MD 20705
***Kate will post some signs to direct you*** \- here are written instructions:
***Once you arrive at BUILDING 3909*** \- this number is displayed at the top of the entrance door\.
When you enter the building, go down the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairwell there is another door. Go through that door. In the hallway will be another door on your left. Go through that door. Kate's apartment (#4) is the first door on your right.
***Please read these PARKING instructions carefully.***
Street Parking is FREE along Beltsville Road, which runs adjacent to Lakehouse Road and the Lighthouse at Twin Lakes apartment complex.
Parking in the parking lot for Lighthouse at Twin Lakes requires a fee for guests. The fee is paid with the PANGO App. It is a small fee, between $1.00 and $3.00 depending on how long you stay.
There are two rows of parking in front of Kate's building. The first row faces the building (and is for residents only) and the other row faces the street (this is the Pango paid parking for guests.)
If you choose to pay to park in the parking lot, download the PANGO App. Each section of parking has different numbers - the number for the lot outside Kate's building door is 70908.
Kate will send her phone number via Meetup Messaging to everyone who RSVPs to attend.
DC Christmas Tree Jaunt with DINOSAURS AT THE BOTANICAL GARDENS (3+ City miles)
I will gladly admit stealing this idea from [Capital Hiking Club](https://www.meetup.com/capital-hiking-club/) and [DC Urban Walkers](https://www.meetup.com/dc-urban-walkers/). This trek will have us starting at the US Botanical Gardens and go see the five best Christmas Trees around downtown DC. We'll gather at a restaurant afterwards to warm up, though it should be unseasonable warm on Saturday anyway.
We will get started at 5pm in front of the [US Botanical Garden](https://maps.app.goo.gl/TZiAYQk6FbXeupvA6), at the fountain with the giant silver Christmas balls. I STRONGLY encourage you to get there at least a half hour early to see the dinosaur-themed model train display outside, and the architectural models of all the monuments made out of plants in the atrium, just inside the gardens building. Both close at 5:00.
From there we will head to the following:
1\. A quarter\-mile northeast to the Capitol Tree
2\. Half a mile northwest on Pennsylvania Ave\. to the Canadian Embassy's tree \(my personal favorite\)
3\. Up Pennsylvania\, then right on 8th NW to the Christmas Market\. We will stop here for 20 minutes in case anybody wants to shop or get some grub\. The Poblano Chicken Chili at the taco truck was a hit and had no line to wait in\.
4\. From there we will head north on 9th St\. and make a left down Palmer Alley to see the various bougie displays at City Center\.
5\. We'll head back south on 11th to Pershing Park\, then the final tree in the Ellipse\.
6\. I was thinking of heading to [Astro Beer Hall](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZmqceDeQk1ibCKss5) afterwards, but I'm open to suggestions if someone has a better plan. Metro Center station is just another block east and can get you back to where you started from. Distance from Botanical Gardens to this point is 3.1 miles.
**Getting there:** I know most of you are suburbanites, but the Metro IS your friend. The closest Orange/Blue/Silver/Green/Yellow station is L'Enfant Plaza, which connects to Metro Center (our end point) without transfer. Exit at Maryland Ave. - that is a ten minute walk. Closest Red Line station is Union or Judiciary, a 17-minute walk, though it also connects to our end point. Union Station also has an impressive tree, but a panhandler will likely demand payment if you stare at it for too long.
If you are coming by car, C and D St SW are likely your best bets for parking. We will be starting just as all the museums close.
Post-Christmas Dinner at the Silver Diner!
Suffering post-Christmas letdown?
Then come to the Silver Diner at 1250 Half Street SE, Washington, DC for some post-Christmas cheer!
Located just blocks from Navy Yard Metro on the Green Line and across the street from Nationals Park, the Silver Diner is two stories and features an ever-rotating menu with everything from vegan to vegetarian to gluten-free to omnivore.
Driving is NOT recommended. Parking is expensive and difficult to find.
NOTE THE FIRST: The Navy Yard Metro station's Nationals Park entrance is closed. Only the New Jersey Ave. entrance is open. Please allow some extra time to account for this and any other service changes. I will post service changes the week before the event.
NOTE THE SECOND: If the weather calls for sleet, ice, wintry mix, or lots of snow, I'm rescheduling the event for January 2026.
See you soon and Happy Holidays!
Jenny
How to stop the Negative Self Talk and Start being Happy
This is a complimentary meetup event at the Church of Scientology at 1424 16th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036.
Your negative emotions can significantly impact your life and your relationships. Sometimes couples and friendships break apart simply because people couldn't manage their own negative emotions, such as anger, worries, anxiety, or depression.
In this meeting, you will learn where these negative emotions come from, for you, and what you can do to start healing from them.
YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
And you can do it without medications, without suppressing these emotions inside yourself. You don't need to leave your loved ones.
Come to this meeting and learn the answers. Our doors are open. Refreshments will be served.
This group is created by the Dianetics & Scientology life improvement information center in Washington, DC.
