Rust meetup #82
(English version below)
This Rust Paris meetup will be hosted by Finary. The complete address is:
4 Pl. de la Bourse
75002 Paris
Rustaceans of all skill levels are welcome; even people who are just curious about the language can come. Initiation sessions are possible, newcomers in Rust are welcome and helped, come with your editor!
Rust hackers: Want to present to the group? If so, let Guillaume know so he can schedule and announce the talks (GuillaumeGomez on github). Presentations are expected to be lightning talks (5 to 10 minutes in length). Talks are very welcome, and we prefer to know about them in advance. It's not mandatory but the priority will be given to the talks we are aware of if time is short.
We will convene, do any presentations, and then pizza will be served! After eating we usually just have time for semi-coordinated hacking and socializing.

GenAI x Chips: Vienna Roundtable — From Silicon to Agents (DACH)
GenAI x Chips: Vienna Roundtable — From Silicon to Agents (DACH)
A relaxed, no-slides group dialogue on AI compute (Cerebras, SiPearl/EU) and agentic LLM adoption (LangChain, LlamaIndex) for the Austrian and DACH community.
WHAT
An informal, small-room conversation about the full GenAI stack—from chips and compute choices to real-world, agentic LLM workflows. Short intros, moderated circle discussion, open Q&A. No keynotes, no long decks.
WHY
DACH teams are moving from pilots to production. Compute options (EU chips, on-prem vs cloud) and building reliable agentic workflows are where decisions get costly. We’ll compare notes and share what actually works.
FORMAT
Group dialogue under the Chatham House Rule. Hybrid: on-site in Vienna with interactive online participation. Lightning intros only (30–45 seconds each), then moderated discussion and an open fishbowl segment.
WHO SHOULD JOIN
• Builders and practitioners shipping LLM apps (internal or external)
• Data/ML leads, CTOs/CIOs, innovation and product leaders in DACH
• Ecosystem partners across compute, infra, and frameworks

⏰ 18:00 - Doors open
🎤 18:45 - 20:00 Talks & Sessions
👥 20:00 - 21:00 Networking
**Talks & Sessions**
**18:45 - Talk 1. Deep dive into Lakebase**
*Speaker: Yanic, Senior Solutions Engineer at Databricks*
**19:25 - Talk 2. What Does It Take to Build a Real-Time Data Platform?**
*Speaker: Melvyn Peignon, ClickHouse*
Modern AI systems—from recommendation engines to autonomous LLM agents—depend on fast, reliable access to fresh data. Feature retrieval, contextual enrichment, analytics, and observability all require **sub-second responses**, even at terabyte or petabyte scale, to deliver truly interactive experiences.
In this session, we’ll explore how **ClickHouse enables real-time analytics at scale** and how it fits into end-to-end AI architectures. We’ll dive into storage formats, indexing strategies, compression techniques, and query execution optimizations that deliver **predictable low latency**. We’ll also look at how ClickHouse integrates with the broader data ecosystem—data lakes, queues, and databases—to power modern analytical and AI workloads.
**19:30 - Talk 3. AI Era: What It Means for Databases**
*Speaker: Nicolas Wlodarczyk, Engineer, Aerospike*
The rise of AI is reshaping every layer of modern architecture—and **databases are at the center of this transformation**. In this talk, Nicolas Wlodarczyk explores how the AI era is redefining how data is stored, accessed, processed, and delivered at scale.
Whether you’re building real-time applications, optimizing large-scale data pipelines, or preparing your infrastructure for AI-driven workloads, this session will give you a clear view of what’s changing—and what it means for you.
You’ll learn:
* Why traditional database assumptions no longer hold in AI-centric systems
* How real-time inference and massive parallelism reshape data access patterns
* The architectural shifts needed to support low-latency, high-throughput AI applications
* What modern databases must deliver to keep up with accelerating model complexity
* Practical steps to prepare your data infrastructure for the next wave of AI adoption
Expect short talks, demos, and plenty of time for networking with others shaping the future of AI development.

**[WiMLDS Paris x MLOps Paris] How to make AI models faster, cheaper & greener.**
Welcome to this exclusive collaboration between **[Women in Machine Learning & Data Science Paris](https://www.meetup.com/paris-women-in-machine-learning-data-science/ "https://www.meetup.com/paris-women-in-machine-learning-data-science/")** and **[MLOps Paris](https://www.meetup.com/mlops-paris/ "https://www.meetup.com/mlops-paris/")**.
Whether you are a seasoned professional in operationalizing ML systems or just getting started with Machine Learning in production, you are invited to join this limited event, attend a talk and network with other professionals in the field.
**About the talk:**
AI models become more complex, the cost of inference—both in terms of computation and energy—continues to rise. In this talk, **[Minette Kaunismäki](https://www.linkedin.com/in/minette-kaunismaki/ "https://www.linkedin.com/in/minette-kaunismaki/")** will explore how combining compression techniques such as quantisation, pruning, caching, and distillation can significantly optimise model performance during inference. By applying these methods, combining compression enables reductions in model size and computational load while maintaining quality, thereby making AI more accessible and environmentally sustainable.
The talk and Q&A will be in English.

We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋

Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup (4th Tues)
Jimmy V's Grill & Pub in Grandview Heights. You are responsible for your own meal/drinks. We usually don't have any agenda other than eat, drink and talk. :) If the weather is nice we will be on the back patio, otherwise we are in the cigar room.
This group has been meeting every Tuesday evening for over a decade. Many attendees do not RSVP on meetup. Please don't let the small number here discourage you. Anyone/everyone is welcome to come. We'd love to have you join us.
COTA bus #5 comes to W. 5th and Wyandotte Rd. And it's a minute walk to the restaurant.
CMG Gives Back - February: Serve Brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! For this event, we’ll help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents, wash dishes and clean surfaces at Fath Mission – Grant Kitchen. We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. Our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:15am and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1, indicated in the attached map. On-site and street parking are available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With very few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
THANK YOU: This CMG Gives Back event provides an opportunity for YOU to get involved in helping others! Benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering provides a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need.
PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities.
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is rapidly changing how developers write, understand, and maintain code. Powered by generative AI and deeply integrated into modern development environments, Copilot acts as an intelligent coding assistant, helping developers move faster while maintaining quality and focus.
In this session, we’ll explore what GitHub Copilot is, how it works, and where it fits into a real-world developer workflow. We’ll break down what Copilot can (and cannot) do, where it can be used, and how licensing differs for individuals and organizations. Most importantly, this talk goes beyond theory with a live, hands-on demo showcasing Copilot inside the IDE and on GitHub, demonstrating how it can assist with code generation, refactoring, learning new APIs, and accelerating day-to-day development tasks.
Designed for developers, technical leads, and engineering managers, this session provides a practical introduction to AI-assisted development, highlights best practices for getting value from Copilot, and closes with guidance on how to continue learning and evolving alongside this rapidly advancing tool.
Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of how GitHub Copilot can enhance productivity, improve developer experience, and fit into modern software teams today, not someday.
