Māya: Print & Object 21.05
Māya: Print & Object 21.05
PRINT / OBJECT by Atelier Māya This print exploration is a relaxed and social textile print session designed to help you slow down, explore, and create something uniquely yours. In this 2-hour workshop at Atelier Māya, you’ll be guided through a simple and enjoyable process: our unique flow test print session leading to a final textile piece. You’ll start by experimenting with our print tools, colour, and mark-making. In the Print Thinking process, you will get a feel for the materials without pressure. You will explore before creating your own composition. The session is intuitive and open. There’s no right or wrong way to work, and no expectation to be “creative” or experienced. Many participants are surprised by how quickly they settle into the process, letting go of perfection and simply enjoying the act of making. We’ll introduce you to Māya’s unique application tools and hand-mixed, eco-friendly studio inks, and support you throughout as you build your final piece. A variety of organic and cotton textile surfaces will be available, including the Māya Travel Pouch and Māya Maxi Tote. You’re also very welcome to bring your own light coloured, natural fibre textiles to experiment on. This is a calm, welcoming space to switch off, experience an analogue textile research atelier and try something new. You will spend a few hours creating in good company. No experience needed, come as you are. **Les Amis** is a women-only community of friendly souls. We provide access to hundreds of experiences that explore your passions and connect you with other event participants. **Check our website to learn more, and apply to join our community and events**: [lesamis.cc/apply](https://www.lesamis.cc/apply)

Board Games, Picnic & Connections for people in their 20s
Join us this Thursday at Treptower Park for a cozy evening of board games and connection! The mission of Quarter Life Connections is to create spaces for **young people in their twenties** to connect and feel at home in Berlin - especially once the familiar structures of university life stop being there and work life starts. We will start with a quick get-to-know-you round and then split up into smaller groups for games. After up to 2 hours of playing we will close with a check-out-and-stay-in-touch round. The intention is to have fun while getting to know the people around you and form start building connections that will last after the event is over. **Please be on time!** The intro circle sets the tone for the event and is a huge support for making meaningful connections. BRING YOUR OWN GAME - and stuff We will have enough games there to entertain everyone - but maybe you have a game at home you think would be fun to play together? Bring it! Also any addition of **picnic blankets** or **snacks** are very appreciated :) CONTRIBUTION In order to make events like this sustainable, we ask for a voluntary donation - suggestion is between 2€ and 10€. This really is **voluntary** \- noone will be turned away due to lack of money\.

**\>\>\> Registration takes place on Luma: [https://luma.com/yp90isjd](https://luma.com/yp90isjd)** **Welcome to KREATIV UNTAPPED #1 – Storytelling Untapped w/ Ben Sauer** **A hands-on session. No slides. Just your stories.** We couldn't be more excited to tap into this with you at Thoughtworks Berlin. *Follow us on [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/company/kreativ-untapped) and [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kreativuntapped).* **KREATIV UNTAPPED** is a creative playground born in Berlin — and we're kicking off with the discipline that sits at the heart of every other one: **storytelling.** Because here's what AI can't replace: the human desire to create. Creativity is what makes us uniquely human — it's a muscle, and like any muscle, it needs training. Most of us have stopped. **KREATIV UNTAPPED** is where we change that — through hands-on sessions with working practitioners across visual arts, tactile crafts, narrative & sound, and spatial & performative disciplines. **This evening** is about words, voice, and presence. In a world full of decks, dashboards and screens, we've forgotten how to just… tell a story. This evening is a practice in putting the slides away and using the oldest tools we have — your voice, your hands, your story. **Expect a short provocation from [Ben](https://bensauer.net/), a hands-on session with a sketching element to flex that creative muscle, a round of group sharing, and time to actually meet the people in the room.** **Who's this for?** Anyone with a story to tell — and the willingness to tell it without a slide deck. No job title. No prior experience. Just the willingness to tap in. Creativity untapped. Connection for real. \-\-\- **ABOUT [BEN SAUER](https://bensauer.net/)** Ben Sauer is a speaker, author, and coach who teaches the art of strategic storytelling — and the perfect person to launch this series. Ben spent years as a UX designer at Clearleft, then as Director of Product for AI at Babylon Health, leading a team of 100 on products worth $100m+. He has trained teams at NASA, Amazon, and the BBC, and spoken at The Economist, NEXT Conference, UX London, VW + Audi and dozens more — frequently as the audience's top-rated speaker. Evening Bike Tour 1: Industrial Heritage in Schöneweider + Sunset Beer.
Evening Bike Tour 1: Industrial Heritage in Schöneweider + Sunset Beer.
**Meet:** Treptow Sbahn. Outside Sesam Cafe (see pin) **Time:** 18:00 **Distance:** 35km **Theme:** Cycle Loop + History + Social Let’s make the most of the long evenings with some history-themed cycle tours this summer. The idea is to meet up after work, get a little cycle in, see some sights and end in a beer garden. **The Tour** The first destination will be Schöneweider: the home of Berlin’s Elektropolis – where modern electricity was pioneered. (see more on this below). We will – more or less – follow the [route of industrial cultur](https://industriekultur.berlin/erleben/fahrradrouten/wasser-und-strom/)e. First we will head East along the South bank of the River, cruise around the industrial heritage of Schoneweider with a few stories form me, then head back up the North side to the Funk Haus (itself a monument of industrial culture) for a sundowner beer and perhaps a bite to eat at [café Zola](https://maps.app.goo.gl/QpGL6UiyQoZG6Bxv8). After that its lights on for a return journey to Treptow/Freidrichshain – estimated time of arrival 9pm. **The Cycling** 20km loop to start and then a little sightseeing and a gentler pace. As long as you have a reasonable bike and are used to cycling around town, you should be fine to join in. **What to Bring** Spare inner tube for your tyre size, cash, waterproofs, suncream, snacks, a smile. Hope to see you there Simon Schöneweider is the home of Berlin’s Elektropolis. It was here that modern electricity networks were developed by AEG, creating a pioneering electricity generation and transmission system that served as a model for all. Not only did they build the power station and grid running from it, they then went on to build the factories necessary to produce components for the electrification of the cities around the globe. Turbines, lamps, cables, valves and much more were manufactured in this kilometer long stretch of the riverside. Along with it came new residential areas as the population swelled to 26 thousand from virtually nothing in 30 years from the 1890s. Today many of the buildings are derelict, some are under development and others are art spaces or ateliers. All retain their beauty and fascination as monuments to Berlin’s industrial past. Come and explore this unique and lesser-known slice of Berlin’s History together.

People encounter states, emotions, beliefs, and sensations in themselves and others which can be difficult. We explore the unknown, the volatile, the ambiguous, as well as welcome emotions many deem as “negative” or “inappropriate” such as feelings of inadequacy, anger, sexuality, and joy. We refer to the willingness to feel difficult and uncomfortable truths as the “commitment to connection,” which of course includes a willingness to set appropriate boundaries, and speak a desire for space, distance, and non-contact. By attending our events you take responsibility for your level of participation, which might include choosing to leave. If all this sounds potentially overwhelming or destabilizing for you, if you have mental illness or significant emotional challenges that you feel may be exacerbated by this type of transformational environment, or if you are not sure that you can be self-directed in taking care of your needs during the event, then we advise you not to attend. We look forward to seeing you!
Rethinking Java for Accelerators: A Toy MLIR/TOSA Compiler with Bruno Caballero
Rethinking Java for Accelerators: A Toy MLIR/TOSA Compiler with Bruno Caballero
In May, [Bruno Caballero](https://github.com/bruno-ah-um) will show us how to target hardware accelerators from Java with MLIR based on [his fork of the OpenJDK Project Babylon](https://github.com/bruno-ah-um/openjdk-babylon-mlir-tosa). Bruno leads the Java Virtual Machines Engineering team at [MicroDoc](http://www.microdoc.com), which develops JVMs and maintains ports across various processors and operating systems. In this talk, we’ll explore a toy project that translates Java code into MLIR for the TOSA dialect, which is used for AI and accelerator workloads. We’ll briefly introduce current approaches (e.g., TornadoVM and Babylon/HAT), before looking at how this project reuses existing compiler infrastructure instead of building new backends. Finally, we’ll touch on whether DSLs should be embedded in general-purpose languages like Java or designed as standalone languages. Small snacks and drinks will be available. There is always space for outside topics and discussions. If you have specific questions, please bring them. Looking forward to meeting everyone again!

Spree Weekly Meetup// Meet & Rave
Spree Weekly Meetup// Meet & Rave
**Everyone's welcome ❤️** Every Friday evening we meet up by the Spree — music playing, people arriving from all over the world, and a night that usually goes way longer than anyone planned. No agenda. No organised icebreakers. Just a relaxed spot by the river where you can show up, grab a drink, and actually meet people worth knowing. We've been doing this for over 8 years, and the best thing about it is still the same — you never quite know who you're going to end up talking to. Come solo, come with friends, come fresh off a flight. The crowd is always a mix of Berliners, expats, travellers, and people who just moved here and are figuring it out. After a while the group usually spreads out to bars or clubs — or just stays by the water. You go wherever the night takes you. **Stay in the loop — join our Telegram group:** Spree Ravers → https://linktr.ee/clockworkbanana 📍 By the Spree, next to Schlesisches Tor U-Bahn — opposite the East Side Gallery, right by the Cage on Water → [https://maps.app.goo.gl/vj1DhSP3apijCmRbA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/vj1DhSP3apijCmRbA) 🕒 From 9 PM — people arrive gradually, so if it's quiet at first, just hang tight See you Friday ✨
Moving Through Sound, Settling Into Resonance 24.05
Moving Through Sound, Settling Into Resonance 24.05
A somatic listening and sound journey · This workshop begins in the body. Through subtle, guided movement — weight shifting, breath, attention to sensation — we turn listening inward. Into the body. Into the space between sounds. Into the micro-movements we rarely notice. A geophone microphone picks up the vibrations of movement in the space, amplifying them back into the room. You may hear your own weight shifting. You may hear someone else's. The boundary between the two begins to dissolve. The sound doesn't create connection. It reveals it. From movement we move into stillness. Into deep collective listening. Into sound. Resonant instruments — singing bowls, gong, chimes, tuning forks — meet field recordings of the natural world. The room settles into a full sound bath, arriving into a body that has already been opened by movement. This workshop is rooted in experimental sound, deep listening, and the simple act of paying attention. It is playful, embodied, and quietly surprising. You will leave with a different relationship to the sounds around you — and probably to the women you made them with. No experience needed. No performance required. Just curiosity and a willingness to arrive. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. All instruments and materials provided. Beneath the noise. A deeper listening. **Les Amis** is a women-only community of friendly souls. We provide access to hundreds of experiences that explore your passions and connect you with other event participants. **Check our website to learn more, and apply to join our community and events**: [lesamis.cc/apply](https://www.lesamis.cc/apply)

My hot take: a labor-saving tool that could potentially help cure cancer gets called dangerous because it might raise unemployment or cause a speculative investment bubble, that tells you a lot more about capitalism and the economic system we live under than it does about the tool itself. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room). Do you think cavemen sat around debating whether fire could be used as a weapon or for self-harm, and decided not to discover it? I have two friends who hate AI for opposite reasons: one thinks it's a fad and not useful, and the other thinks it's going to take over everything and cause human extinction. Come out tonight, have a friendly debate, and make some friends. No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it's fun.
