Discuss & Social 🍷 The rejection game: white lies vs clear communication
**Discussion overview:** White lies, ghosting, fake excuses - modern rejection can be a minefield. Many people try polite or indirect exits to stay safe and protect everyone's feelings. But do these actually cause more harm than good? Could clear and open communication actually be more safe, respectful and constructive for everyone? We'll discuss..
1\. 📱 **The Polite Lie:** Is indirect communication (white lies, ghosting, fake excuses, etc) a valid way to stay safe and protect people's feelings?
2\. 🎭 **What Do We Owe?** Do we owe someone an honest and clearer explanation? Could doing so help them move on and/or focus on other things, e.g. improve themselves?
3\. 🥂 **The Good Vibe:** Can rejection happen without entirely dismissing someone or making the next interactions awkward?
*Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore real life, grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to learn how others see it.*
**\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society - with warm social vibes before and after.\***
**WHAT TO EXPECT:**
* Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange.
* We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!)
* The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30.
* 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options)
* And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling!
**DISCUSSION FORMAT:**
**\- Our group conversations are open and flexible\! There is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the key questions\, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak\.**
\- We rotate groups intentionally during the discussion so everyone gets to meet a wider mix of people and perspectives\.
\- After the structured part\, you’re free to mix and mingle with anyone\.
**Here's a typical discussion flow, but we may adjust this depending on the turnout:**
\- Introductions and initial thoughts *(\~5 mins).*
\- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).*
\- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*.
\- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)*
**Rules & etiquette:**
1\. Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks please\.
2\. No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding\.
3\. Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines\.

London Society TALK - Deep conversations Green Park
Have you ever wanted to gather together and talk about insightful topics which broadens your thinking and knowledge? If so, this may be the right event for you.
Welcome to the ‘Deep conversations’ event where you get the opportunity to share your views based on the topics that we may cover.
The last time this was executed, it not only went well but we managed to learn from one another which broadened our thinking.
We have a new twist: The event will take place at Green park and it won’t be capped.
The way it works is you’ll be numbered from 1 - 5 and then you get together in your groups based on your number. The process repeats itself after each topic until the event is finished so it’s opportunistic to interact with new faces and hear interesting views.
With this particular event, the topics we’ll discuss are:
* What does family mean to you?
* What do you appreciate from your parents the most?
* They say ‘blood makes you related and loyalty makes you family’. What’s your take on this?
* Do you think character is important or time when it comes to knowing people?
* Was there ever a time where someone close to you broke your trust and if so, what did you learn?
* Name someone special who entered your life and changed you for the better.
We get so preoccupied with daily life that we hardly have a chance to sit back and think as well as discuss many topics in such depth. When was the last time you sat back and thought about anything in depth which opened your eyes to so many possibilities and broadened your thinking?
Now is your chance to share your views and learn from one another. By participating in this, you could broaden your ways of thinking, learn new lessons or even heal if you have your hidden struggles.
My fellow explorers, if you enjoyed the event, I’m more than happy to accept any donations which of course are optional but will go a long way to help me unlock and deliver even more exciting and engaging events and resources: https://www.paypal.me/calvinjoy
WHAT - Deep conversations
WHERE - Green Park

Disclaimers:
Please be on your best behaviour and respect one another. This group doesn’t tolerate any misbehaviour and misconduct. Should such a thing take place, you will be removed.
If you ask a question that either already has the answer to it or doesn’t relate to the event at all, I won’t respond.
Whenever an event takes place, I will cut off contact 20 minutes after the event commences. If you message even 1 minute after the cut off time, I won’t be available as I’m conducting the event.
There will be photography and videography by myself so if you are photo conscious and/or do not want to be in the video, do kindly inform me and I’ll try my utmost best to not involve you in the picture.

FRENCH CONVERSATION (Rusty Intermediate) with a native tutor
***WARNING***
*If you are new to our Meet Up or haven't attended any class for months, please, BEFORE signing up to a conversation class, send an email in French to Christian at frenchlondonexperience at gmail dot com ; Anyone -* aforementioned - *signing up to a class before getting an agreement will be removed from the list. You want to improve your fluency, your pronunciation and your French skills? You want to get more vocabulary, knowledge and understanding of French, the French and France? You want to speak on various topics with the support of a French native tutor?
Each week, we come up to a different theme. It pushes your conversation skills up. It helps you to speak about many topics and to interact in French in multiple contexts.
Regular attendees learn a lot, make improvements and are able to have a chat about numerous topic!
The bonus, you will be able to ask questions to an authentic French native!
**THE CLASS:**
This is a face-to-face conversation class lasting 60 minutes run by a French native & professional tutor (in London since 2016).
This is a Conversation Class dedicated to French learners who struggle to have a spontaneous conversation. If you think your French is rusty, if you feel not really comfortable to interact among a group of other French speakers, this class is for you (if not sure, send a message in French to the organiser).
The class goes on an adapted pace with a first part dedicated to a chit-chat and then we'll focus on a short text to learn about French culture and the language.
We approach the theme, read a short text (you get a copy for the session), speak, learn vocabulary and things about French culture. The theme is always linked to French, the French and France. At the end, we wrap up and keep a few minutes for some miscellaneous questions.
After the class, you will get an email with a list of vocabulary (some words / expressions seen along the class).
This is a very small group class: maximum of 4 attendees and a minimum of 2. So you will speak directly to the tutor.
During the class, the tutor helps you to structure and improve your phrasing, and to develop your understanding.

Borders and Belonging: A Humanist Perspective on Immigration in South Africa
In recent months, South Africa has witnessed growing tensions around immigration, identity, economic inequality, and social belonging. Public debate has increasingly focused on questions of migration, citizenship, xenophobia, and the treatment of African migrants within African societies.
**The Association of Black Humanists and Bolelang Rakeepile of the South African Atheists** invites members of the public, activists, scholars, students, and community leaders to a thoughtful and respectful discussion exploring these issues through a humanist lens.
Together, we will examine:
\* What drives hostility toward immigrants and foreign nationals?
\* How do colonial history, inequality, and economic hardship shape current attitudes?
\* What does humanism teach us about human dignity, solidarity, and shared humanity?
\* Can borders coexist with compassion and justice?
\* How do we challenge xenophobia while addressing legitimate social concerns?
This conversation seeks to encourage critical thinking, empathy, and constructive dialogue at a time when division and fear threaten social cohesion across the continent. Bolelang will lead the discussion and he would also be happy to answer questions from the audience.
**Date: 30 May 2026**
**Time: 3pm (London time) please arrive by 2.45pm**
**Venue: Pembury Community Centre,**
**1 Atkins Square, Dalston Lane, E8 1HL**
Admission is free and all are welcome.
A voluntary donation of £3 would be much appreciated.
**No human being is illegal. Our shared humanity must remain greater than our borders!!**

**WHO**
Languages in London events are organised for our community - being social, making new friends, building cultural bridges and always very relaxed. Our weekly events in London have the highest number of languages and countries represented.
Note - This is **not** a dating event.
Our events are open to Internationals, Locals, Expats, Students, Travellers..... Everyone!
This is the event for a truly global community and for citizens from around the World 🌎
Is this the Intercambio you've been looking for? Want to practice your ingles, espanol , francais, italiano, Deutsch, portugues or other European languages? Asian languages ? Or maybe prefer to only speak English, that's just fine.
**All languages and all fluency levels are welcome** Spread the love, bring your family, friends and colleagues 💙
The creator and organiser of **Languages in London - Girish**, will always be visible at the event and there to support you and help with introductions, if you prefer.
These are real events with real people. We aren't one of those groups that fill our events with fictitious attendees👻
We want to remain the **BEST** language events group in London, being the biggest isn't our focus.
**No-shows at our events are always removed from the group.**
**Inactive members are also regularly removed from our group.**

**SUSTAINABLE** 🌎🌳
Like you, we really care about our planet.
We never use paper stickers or wristbands as they can't be reused or recycled and can even damage your clothing ☹️
The Solution? Our personalised and completely reusable Languages in London badges! 👍
So, please make sure you return your badge to us, before you leave the event. We'll sanitise it (anti bacterial & disinfectant cleaners) and use it again & again & again. Thanks for helping us do the right thing and keep our costs down🙏
**SAFE SPACE FOR EVERYONE** 👮♂️
We don't tolerate prejudice or harassment of any kind, at any time. Be polite and respectful to everyone else and they will reciprocate. Let's keep the space safe, welcoming for everyone and free of any political agendas. Please report any concerns to the Organiser immediately.
Please look after your belongings, the venue is a public place.
We may take photos or video at the event for future promotional use. Let us know if you'd rather not be included, we respect your choice 📸
