Alternative Friday Night: An Under-30 Event
Alternative Friday Night: An Under-30 Event
Alternative Friday Night is a relaxed, alcohol-free evening for under-30s who want a different way to spend their Friday night. Instead of drinking and partying, we come together for storytelling, music, and meaningful conversation in a warm, welcoming space. If you’re aged 18–30 and looking to connect with others, share ideas, listen deeply, or express yourself creatively, this evening is for you. No experience with Buddhism is required — just an openness to conversation and connection. Join us at the Dublin Buddhist Centre for an informal night of music, stories, and conversations that matter. Alternative Friday Night runs once a month on a Friday evening. Come as you are, bring a friend, or just drop in and see what unfolds. All our Under-30 events are offered free of charge but you might consider [making a donation](https://dublinbuddhistcentre.org/regular-donation/) to help us to continue to provide these kinds of events.

Date My Mate | Powerpoint Night | 21- 35 years
Pitch your mate and help them find true love or sit back and find the love of your life via the romantic medium of powerpoint! Have you got a mate who’s too shy to put themselves out there but definitely ready to meet the love of their life? Or maybe… that mate is *you*? ***[Get your Tickets](https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/date-my-mate-powerpoint-night-21-35-years-tickets-1988237863973)*** Welcome to **Date My Mate**, a two-hour event where confidence is optional and friendship is mandatory. Instead of awkward small talk, we’re handing you the clicker. Participants will have **three and a half minutes** to present a powerpoint pitching their friend to a room full of potential suiters. Think: green flags, red flags, fun facts, embarrassing photos (used lovingly), and why this person is an absolute catch. **How it works:** * Purchase a ticket to attend the event * You’ll receive a confirmation email with a google form to nominate yourself or a friend to present * We will let you know if you have been picked to present or not (sorry, we are limited on time, we can't give everybody the time!) * If choosen to present, you’ll get **three and a half glorious minutes** to sell the dream * There will be a prize for the best presentation No pressure. No swiping. Just slides, laughs, and maybe… love. Ready to pitch perfection? 💘📈 Come alone to meet somebody new, or bring a friend! **I have my presentatin ready!** Unfortunetly not everybody will be able to present. We have a time limit of 3 and a half minutes for each person so we will do our best to include everybody, but YOU NEED TO APPLY! Once you purchase your ticket there is an application form, you must apply to present! **What should my presentation include?** Show off your friend in the best light possible. Some pictures, their hobbies, what they think is the perfect date. Maybe even some of their unusal habits. Keep it fun and lighthearted and love will follow...! **Can I come alone?** Absolutely! Come alone and meet the love of your life or bring a friend to help them meet theirs. **Do I have to pitch?** Nope, not everybody needs to pitch somebody. We will be selecting a few people to pitch their friends and everybody else can enjoy the presentations! **My friend can't make it, can I still pitch them?** We want everybody that is being pitched to attend the event so that they can meet their potential suiters on the night, so yes they must be in attendance. **Does everybody need a ticket?** Yes, everybody that plans to come needs a ticket, whether presenting, being presented or just a spectator. **What is the age range?** This particular event is for those aged 21 to 35 years.

An Irishman seeks anonymity in Barcelona, haunted by crimes he has committed. A man goes to Dublin from Enniscorthy to implore the Minister for Health for a special favour. A young woman is pregnant during the Spanish Civil War. An undocumented worker finds himself living an illegal life and must leave San Francisco, and his child, after thirty years in America. Colm Tóibín is the author of eleven novels, including *The Master,* *Brooklyn* and its sequel *Long Island*, and *The Magician*, and three collections of stories. He has been three times shortlisted for the Booker Prize. In 2021, he was awarded the David Cohen Prize for Literature. Between 2022 and 2024 he was the Laureate for Irish Fiction.

### Let’s Reconnect & Play: Our First Test Session! Hello everyone, and welcome to our community! Our daily lives can get so stressful and overwhelming between work, study, and endless adult responsibilities. We created this group because we wanted to design a safe space to just **be**, enjoy the present moment, and disconnect from all the digital noise—social media, algorithms, and daily anxiety. To kick things off, we are hosting our very first **test session**! This is a special, intimate gathering to try out our dynamics before we launch our regular events to the general public. **What to expect:** * **A gentle grounding and meditation practice:** A space to arrive, breathe, and leave the rush of the city behind. * **Original group games & creative activities:** Fun, low-pressure dynamics designed to break the ice, laugh, and reconnect with your "inner child." * **A cozy space for reflection:** A moment to share how we feel and build authentic human connections. **The details:** * 📅 **When:** May 24th at 2:00 PM * 📍 **Where:** City Center (Exact outdoor/indoor location will be shared with confirmed participants via private message). * 🎟️ **Symbolic Fee:** €5 (This is a non-profit test session; the fee is just to confirm your spot, secure attendance, and help with basic organization/materials). * **All you have to bring is great attitude and your yoga mat**! We have a **very limited number of spots** to keep the group small, safe, and meaningful. If you feel like you need a "digital detox" and a bit of genuine play in your life, RSVP to secure your spot! Once you sign up, I will send you a private message with the exact meeting point and payment details (Revolut) to confirm your attendance. Can't wait to meet you all and share this experience! ✨

Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Prompting Is Not Magic: How to Give AI Better Context
Most people use AI like a search box: they type one sentence, hope for the best, and get frustrated when the answer is generic, wrong, or useless. But getting better results from tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI systems is not about memorizing magic prompts. It is about learning how to give the AI better context. In this beginner-friendly session, we’ll break down how to make AI dramatically more useful by improving the way you communicate with it. You’ll learn how to give clearer instructions, provide examples, set constraints, ask for better output formats, and use follow-up questions to turn a mediocre answer into a genuinely useful one. We’ll cover practical techniques you can use immediately for work, learning, writing, coding, planning, research, and everyday problem solving. We’ll also touch on why these same ideas show up in more advanced AI systems, including RAG, agents, evaluations, and AI workflows. No technical background required. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and maybe one real task you wish AI was better at helping you with. **What you’ll learn:** * Why “better prompting” is really about better context * How to structure requests so AI gives more useful answers * How to use examples, constraints, and output formats * How to iterate when the first answer is not good enough * How these skills connect to more advanced AI workflows This meetup is for anyone who wants to move beyond basic ChatGPT usage and start getting more practical value out of AI. LOGISTICS AND PARKING: The talk starts at 7:00 PM. The first half hour is reserved for everyone to get set up and mingle. Free pizza and drinks! The cheapest parking option is to find street parking, which will only cost you a few bucks. Otherwise, park in the nearby veteran's museum lot for $8. It's highly recommended you avoid the nearby $15 garage parking.
