[ENGLISH] SATURDAY / Cafè de l'Opera - Philosophy Meetup: 17h - 18:30
Hi and welcome to our next Socrates Café philosophy meetup!
Do you have a hunger for a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you? Do you value deep, honest and respectful dialogue?
If yes, then you will enjoy this event.
We ask, answer and discuss questions and ideas to stimulate critical thinking and to widen our perspectives with new concepts and thoughts.
The main purpose of these meetups is to enrich ourselves with the perspectives of others, not to convince others about our own perspectives.
Our meetups are about our own philosophies of life and not necessarily what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debating club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open mindedness and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others.
A Socrates Café meetup is considered a success when participants leave a discussion with many more questions than they had at the beginning.
WHAT TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED AT THE MEETUP?
Participants suggest topics at the beginning of each meeting. We then vote and choose that event's most popular topic for discussion. No academic training in philosophy necessary; just enthusiasm for exchanging ideas and points of view.
Some examples of subjects chosen on previous meetups:
* What ideals are worth dying for?
* Why are we never satisfied?
* Why is it that human beings know that the society is going wrong, leaders are well informed about it and things continue as is?
* Is identity necessary?
* How can it be that people in democratic societies are so obsessed with power? (Desire to be different, better, stronger than others)
* What is friendship?
EVERYONE AND ANYONE IS WELCOME
The inspiration for Socrates Cafe originates with the book of the same name, written by the philosopher Christopher Phillips. (Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy, 2002). Phillips felt that the Socratic method of dialogue and discussion should be practiced not just in academic settings, but among everyday people interested in examining deep questions together. Hundreds of Socrates Cafe groups now exist around the world. To learn more, visit https://socratescafe.com.
Mindful Eating Experience 🍽️🌿
**What if eating could be a meditation?**
Most of us eat on autopilot: scrolling, rushing, barely tasting. Mindful Eating is the practice of slowing down and bringing full, gentle attention to the experience of nourishment. The colours on the plate. The first smell. The texture. The warmth. The taste that arrives before you even expect it.
It sounds simple. And it is. But like all mindfulness practices, simple doesn't mean easy, and the rewards are quietly profound.
**🌿 What is Mindful Eating?**
Mindful Eating is a form of mindfulness meditation practice that invites us to:
* Slow down and engage all the senses during a meal
* Notice hunger, fullness, and the body's signals with curiosity rather than judgment
* Bring presence and gratitude to the act of eating
* Let food become an anchor for awareness just as birdsong does on our walks
This experience is also part of my requirements for my Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification which asks me to teach a wide range of mindfulness practices. What started with a Birdsong Walk has now grown into something more expansive. This is the next step. 🌿
**🍽️ Where we're gathering**
We'll be sharing this experience at a restaurant that is close to my heart: Kasarap Filipino Kitchen (@kasarapbcn).
I moved to Barcelona from the Philippines about 10 years ago, and every time I walk through the doors of Kasarap, something in me exhales. It feels like home. I imagine you know that feeling, the one you get when you find a little piece of your own country somewhere far from it.
I would love to share Filipino food with you. If you haven't tried it yet, I truly cannot wait for this to be your first time.
Filipino food is communal by nature — dishes are placed in the middle of the table and shared — which makes it a beautiful, fitting setting for a mindfulness practice rooted in connection.
They also have vegetarian options 🌱
You can explore their menu here: [kasarap.com](kasarap.com)
### ✨ About your co-host
This session will be co-guided by Juanita. Originally from Colombia and now based in Barcelona, Juanita is a designer, artist, and writer whose work lives at the intersection of attention, curiosity, and being human. Her practice moves through drawing, journaling, and quiet observation — a way of staying in conversation with life, especially the subtle layers we often overlook. She explores inner landscapes through play, emotion, and lived experience, listening closely to what wants to emerge. Juanita brings a deeply intuitive and creative presence to this experience. A reminder that meaning and magic aren’t something we chase — they reveal themselves when we slow down enough to notice.
**📌 Important — please read before RSVPing**
* **This experience is limited to 5 people only**
* You will need to order something from the restaurant during the session — we will all share the bill communally
* **A 10€ reservation fee is required to confirm your spot, which goes towards your food consumption on the day**
* Your spot is confirmed once the 10€ has been received
💳 Reserve your spot via Bizum: +34 722 692 960
(Please include your name in the payment reference)
⚠️ Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance or no-shows are non-refundable.
Food has always been a way of coming home — to culture, to memory, to the people around us. For two hours on a Sunday afternoon, let's also let it bring us home to ourselves. 🌿
✨ Human Design Embodiment – Introduction Workshop
# ✨ Human Design Embodiment – Introduction Workshop
On April 11th, from 10:00–13:00, we gather for an immersive introduction into Human Design — not as a concept to understand, but as a system to experience.
Human Design is like an energetic footprint — a map of how you move through life, how you receive and share energy, how you relate, decide, and ultimately express your unique purpose.
It weaves together ancient and modern systems such as the chakra system, astrology, and the I Ching — an ancient Chinese wisdom text that reveals archetypal patterns of transformation and change.
In this introductory workshop, we open a space to explore:
🫶🏼 The foundations of your Human Design chart
🌿 How your energy moves through your body
✨ The current energetic climate and how it interacts with your unique design
🔥 What it means to live in alignment in everyday life
Through guided embodiment practices, gentle exploration, and shared space, we begin to sense what Human Design truly is beyond the mind.
This is a space to:
• Connect with your body and inner guidance
• Begin to read and feel your own energetic map
• Understand why Human Design is touching so many lives
💫 Energy Exchange (Donation-based) 15–20€ to join and explore, or 35–40€ recommended for a deeper experience
🪷 Facilitated by Kim — Human Design Analyst, co-founder of Human Design Uni (Germany), trained with international teachers such as Jenna Zoe, André Schinke & Richard Rudd. Her work blends analytical depth with embodiment, shaped by her background in acting therapy.
✨ If you feel a quiet inner “yes,” trust it.
With love 🤍 Kim

Rapé Circle • Breath • Embodiment
**Rapé Circle • Breath • Embodiment**
An intimate evening of grounding, release, and reconnection
📍 Samaná Soul Spaces
📅 09\.04\.2026 \| 18:30 – 20:30
Step into a sacred and intimate container where breath, movement, and ancestral medicine come together to guide you back into your body.
This evening is an invitation to slow down, soften the mind, and reconnect with your inner essence. Through conscious breathwork, the sacred medicine of Rapé, and gentle embodiment practices, we create space to release what no longer serves and open to clarity, presence, and inner alignment.
Rapé (ha-pen) is a traditional Amazonian plant medicine, used by indigenous tribes for grounding, cleansing, and deep spiritual connection. It is typically made from Mapacho (a sacred Amazonian tobacco) blended with various medicinal herbs. Unlike other plant medicines, Rapé is non-hallucinogenic and does not take you out of yourself, but rather brings you deeper into your body. Offered with respect and intention, it supports the clearing of mental fog, emotional blockages, and energetic stagnation, allowing you to arrive more fully within yourself.
*This is a space for those who feel called to:*
• reconnect with their body and breath
• release emotional or energetic heaviness
• deepen their inner awareness
• experience sacred medicine in a safe, guided setting
• share in authentic connection within an intimate group
No prior experience is needed. You are welcome exactly as you are.
***
**✨ What to expect**
**Arrival & Introduction**
We begin by opening the space, landing together, and setting the tone for the evening.
**Intention Circle**
Each participant is invited to share their name and intention, anchoring their personal journey for the session.
**Breathwork (Wim Hof style)**
A guided breath practice to activate the body, bring clarity, and prepare the system to receive.
**Rapé Facilitation**
You will be gently introduced to the medicine, its origins, and its purpose.
The medicine is offered with prayer and intention, accompanied by live music to support your journey.
This part of the evening invites deep grounding, release, and energetic alignment.
A short channeled prayer and light language will follow to support integration.
**Embodiment Movement**
Through intuitive, guided movement, we begin to awaken the life force within the body.
This practice supports emotional release, creative expression, and a deeper connection to your inner energy.
**Closing Circle**
We gently land the experience, share reflections, and integrate the journey together.
***
**🌸 About the facilitator**
**Magda** is a space holder devoted to guiding others back into connection with their body, energy, and inner truth. Her work weaves together embodiment practices, breathwork, kundalini bodywork and sacred plant medicines, creating grounded yet intuitive containers for transformation.
Her approach is gentle, present, and deeply attuned. She holds space with intention and care, allowing each person to move through their own process in a way that feels safe and authentic.
With a deep respect for the traditions behind Rapé, Magda offers this medicine as a tool for grounding, clarity, and reconnection, always guided by prayer, presence, and integrity.
Please arrive sober and with a clear body, free from alcohol or substances, to honour the medicine and the space we are creating together.

Journal Launch: Mindfulness in Nature: Art & Writing Workshop 🌿
A slow, easy afternoon to create, connect, and just be.

**How the afternoon flows:**
1: Arrive, settle in & mingle
Help yourself to a few sweet and savory snacks, bring your own drink (and snacks), and get to know the people around you. No rush.
2: The journal: its story & how to use it
We'll explore the journal together — where it came from, what inspired it, and how to make it your own out in nature.
3: Colour, write & doodle
Choose a bird or nature colouring page and settle in. I'll share some gentle journaling prompts to write alongside your art — and doodle to your heart's content too.
4: Free time — yours to enjoy

Colouring pages, pencils, and other materials are provided (except for the journal - this needs to be purchased separately, 14,99€ - I accept contactless card, Bizum or Cash). A few sweet and savory snacks will be on the table — just bring your own drink of choice or snacks too if you need gluten-free snacks. Please bring your own mat too if you'd want to sit down or lie down.

Kirtan & Meditation
We gather every Saturday at 16h for our weekly collective meditation practice.
Our sessions are based on Rajadhiraja Yoga, a holistic system that integrates the classical eight-limbed (Ashtanga) yoga, Tantra, a structured series of meditation lessons, and a deep spiritual and social philosophy.
The meditations are held as part of the Meditation Steps project — a non-profit initiative that aims to make meditation and yoga accessible to everyone and inspire positive change in society.
Our facilitator Michael, has been practicing meditation for five years and guides sessions that blend dynamic and silent meditation. His approach combines movement, breath, and stillness to create a modern, grounding experience that helps people reconnect with clarity and calm.
These sessions are in ENGLISH.

Drunken
This month's prompt concerns the idea of the “warrior philosopher” (seemed appropriate in these times)--that is someone whose understanding of violence, power, and justice is forged through direct experience of war. We are looking at Major General Smedley D. Butler, a highly decorated U.S. Marine raised in a Quaker (pacifist) tradition who later became a prominent critic of American militarism (there is a wonderful biography of Gen. Butler called "Gangsters of Capitalism")
Butler's argument in *War Is a Racket* (1935): that many U.S. interventions were driven less by national defense than by corporate and financial interests, with Butler portraying himself as an enforcer for business and Wall Street. We can consider the moral ambiguity of his insider critique—whether complicity strengthens or undermines credibility and also consider some of the concrete reforms he proposed (e.g., “conscript” capital before soldiers, restrict the military to coastal defense, and have only those who fight decide on war).
Butler’s life arc clearly changed from pacifist upbringing to warrior to antiwar crusader—and asks whether true understanding of peace requires firsthand knowledge of war, and what that implies about the cost of suffering. So do we need to suffer to understand suffering? Do we have to experience war to appreciate peace? As one more question: in the movie "A Few Good Men" Jack Nicholson's character says that "you have the luxury of not knowing what I know" so do most of us go through life oblivious to real violence and suffering? See you at Drunken Philosophy!
Libera Animae - Freeing the Soul
Main Library, Meeting Room 3B
Join us for a welcoming evening of reflection, gentle music, and meaningful conversation. We’ll begin with a short grounding moment, followed by a brief reading from spiritual or philosophical traditions, and an open reflection circle where participants can share (or simply listen).

All backgrounds are welcome.
Neurospicy Columbus - Join us for Stauff's Coffee and Book Loft
Join Neurospicy Columbus at the Stauff's for coffee and then a stroll through the Book Loft nearby!
This will be a friendly chat for like minded individuals with Autism and/or ADHD (or somewhere on the Neurodiverse Spectra).
Sunday Brunch
Sleep in on Sundays. When you've had your fill of pajama-time, roll out and have some tasty brunch with your fellow Humanists!
Coffee and Book Chat: Disability Visibility
Let's catch up and have a relaxed chat, including chat about the book Disability Visibility.
This collection of essays is available at the library. You'll be invited to share the essay that you related to the most, and the essay that did the most to grow your awareness of something new. It's OK if you don't read the whole book!
Humanist Program
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
We will be hearing from Becca Powell, Director of Advocacy and Outreach at Unchained At Last, an organization whose mission is dedication to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and systems change. Unchained At Last's mission clearly meshes and addresses several of our Humanist Ten Commitments. Becca will educate us about an issue many of us may not be familiar with--but should be.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
