PGT Reels Social Evening - our social evenings are aimed at dancers who have previously attended a teaching session or have some prior knowledge of Reeling. Tonight will feature the following dances: * Dashing White Sergeant * Hamilton House * Duke of Perth * Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh * Inverness Country Dance * Reel of the 51st If you don't know all the dances, don't worry! Most aren't too difficult and with a little study beforehand you should be fine. Within minutes you'll be setting and spinning with the rest of us. We meet once a fortnight from 7:15pm at Marlborough Primary School (SW3), just a short walk from South Kensington and Knightsbridge tube stations. Entry is £9 (card only, paid on the door) and includes wine, cordial, and snacks. Each fortnightly event alternates between a teaching session and a social session. Entry is permitted anytime until finish at 9:30pm, at which point we head over to the very nearby pub The Admiral Codrington.

Maika studied at Karen Taft Dance Academy and Flamenco Centre “Amor de Dios”, majoring in Spanish Dance at the Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. In 2003, she was awarded a Teaching Methodology Applied to Spanish Dance certificate and then focused her career on dance education. Maika has continued her professional training alongside teachers including Antonio Canales, Alfonso Losa, La Lupi, Rojas and Rodriguez. Maika co-founded the company Spanish Flamenco Tour, based in Miami (USA), a business dedicated to promoting flamenco and Spanish culture, to a local audience. Adding more strings to her bow, Maika embarked on a Master´s Degree in Leadership and Management of Cultural Projects at the Institute of Dance “Alicia Alonso”, Rey Juan Carlos University. Her final master’s project was based on promoting Spanish dance, receiving a First-Class Degree. I am a native, qualified teacher of English and this is a session designed for you to go over any particular issues that you have in English - grammar, exam preparation, pronunciation, vocabulary and so on - as well as to practise your conversational skills discussing current topics. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 1:30 - 2:00, followed by dancing 2:00 - 430. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
