Before Sunset
Before Sunset
Hi all, Our *‘Before’* Triology continues on **Sunday April 19th at 4pm** with the screening of **Before Sunset.** Before Sunrise ended with a promise that its sequel reveals was not kept. Nine years after Vienna, Jesse, married with a son, is giving a reading in a Paris bookshop of the novel he wrote inspired by his encounter with Céline when she appears. Their time once again limited by Jesse’s travel arrangements, the two walk the streets, resuming their conversation, acknowledging the changes in their lives while recognising the profound effect their one night together had on their lives and relationships. Screening is taking place in screen 1 and early booking is advised. I’ll be in the foyer from 3.30pm with my purple baseball hat. See you all there, Martin

Let’s play... Ars Magica / Agon / The Quiet Year
Let’s play... Ars Magica / Agon / The Quiet Year
Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games - you will choose which game you play on the day. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination. 🎭 **This week's facilitators:** * 🧙 **Dave** with *[Ars Magica](https://www.atlas-games.com/arsmagica/)*, a game about magi in a mythic version of medieval Europe shaped by hidden magic, ancient traditions, and rival powers. In the wild frontiers of the Slavic lands, a child has vanished into the forest. Branded a witch by some, sought as a prodigy by others, he is now hunted from all sides. You’ll follow his trail through shifting woods and uneasy villages, caught between rival factions, a ruthless magus seeking an apprentice, and armed bands closing in. The forest itself resists you: spirits mislead, paths twist, and nothing is quite what it seems. Expect investigation, tense roleplay, moral choices, and possible combat. Who do you trust? And when the hunters arrive, what will you do with the boy? * 🐍 **Adam** with *[Agon](http://www.agon-rpg.com/)*, where you play mythic Bronze Age heroes cast adrift by the gods and sailing from island to island, searching for home and competing for glory. On the island of Nimos, the funeral of the king's son is underway, alongside ceremonial games of hand-to-hand combat in his honour. But the fighters are twisted into savagery by strange elixirs, and the land itself appears poisoned. Will you discover the source and true nature of this dangerous alchemy? * **🏘️ Filip** with *[The Quiet Year](https://buriedwithoutceremony.com/the-quiet-year)*, a GM-less, dice-less game of narrative and worldbuilding. Who... who's there at the horizon? Is that fairies? Orcs? Fairy-orcs? Demons?! Surely not demons... Whoever they are (or will be) - they need a quiet year. You play as a medium-sized community of - well, whatever we collectively decide, to tell their story over a year in a new place entirely. *** Feel free to ask the organisers any questions you have (here or on our [Discord server](https://tinyurl.com/indie-rpgs-dublin)).

Sunday Stroll In St Stephen's Green
Sunday Stroll In St Stephen's Green
Ward River Valley and Swords Castle walk
Ward River Valley and Swords Castle walk
On Sunday 19th April we shall have a walk in the Ward River Valley to Swords Castle. **Meeting Location** Swords Express bus stop on Eden Quay which is next to stop 135351 and Meaghers Pub. From O'Connell St head towards the River Liffey and when you get to the river, turn left. The bus stop is a short distance on the left hand side. The Swords Express bus takes Leap Cards (please ensure you have enough credit) and is scheduled to depart at 10:45. If it's easier for you to catch a different bus to the walk's starting point then please let the organisers know. **Route Description** From the meeting point on Eden Quay we will take the Swords Express bus to near the Windmill Lands area of Swords from there we walk through the park and along the Ward River into Swords itself to see the historic round tower of St Columba's Church, the holy well and the lovely Swords Castle. The distance is approximately 5km. There will be time to look round the castle which is free to visit. After maybe a cup of tea or a pint of beer, we will take the bus back into Dublin. Or alternatively if people wish, we could have a further walk to Malahide Station via the lovely Malahide Estuary. This is approximately a further 5.5km. Some paths can be a little muddy, but the chosen route should avoid the worst sections. If it's dry and warm enough, we'll probably have a picnic in the park. There are no shops on the walk, but there are many shops, cafés and pubs in Swords itself. \*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\* We hope to see you there! Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places. **\*\*\* Important, please click on Attend if you wish to join this event. If you can no longer make it then please change your RSVP or send a message. Don't be a no-show - the organisers reserve the right to remove people from the group who have multiple no-shows. \*\*\*** Host: Tim (085 718 5658) On the day of the event, if you need to contact the organiser then please send a WhatsApp message is the best way. Before the day you can send a message via Whatsapp or leave a message below. FAQs 1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details 2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks. 3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as an easy walk, but having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. 4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths. 5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to. PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks. Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather. April Book Club Meetup
April Book Club Meetup
Welcome, readers! Our April read is **_Martyr!_ by Kaveh Akbar.** The story follows a young Iranian American poet grappling with grief, addiction, and the aching question of what makes a life meaningful. Drawn into an unexpected friendship with a terminally ill artist, he begins to confront faith, love, and the seduction of self-destruction. Lyrical, darkly funny, and emotionally piercing, the novel wrestles with beauty and despair in equal measure. It’s a story about longing—to be seen, to be forgiven, and to matter. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖
How Lucky by Will Leitch

Posting this early because seemingly all Sundays in May are holidays or busy! I picked a shorter thriller that's hopefully a fast read/listen. [Columbus library link to book](https://cml.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S105C3458940) Location: Grandview Cafe, *1455 W. 3rd Ave*, Columbus, OH 43212 [Menu](https://www.grandviewcafe.com/menu) Book summary: Daniel leads a rich life in the university town of Athens, Georgia. He's got a couple close friends, a steady paycheck working for a regional airline, and of course, for a few glorious days each Fall, college football tailgates. He considers himself to be a mostly lucky guy -- despite the fact that he's suffered from a debilitating disease since he was a small child, one that has left him unable to speak or to move without a wheelchair. Largely confined to his home, Daniel spends the hours he's not online communicating with irate air travelers observing his neighborhood from his front porch. One young woman passes by so frequently that spotting her out the window has almost become part of his daily routine. Until the day he's almost sure he sees her being kidnapped.
