Stoicism and Awareness: Lessons from Seneca and Anthony de Mello
Why do we suffer in a given moment? Is it because we are attached to something? Can we observe suffering without trying to change or judge it?
These are the kinds of questions Seneca would ask in his timeless teachings. Through his letters and essays, he urged readers to examine their lives with honesty, discipline, and a commitment to inner freedom.
Further, because Stoic ideas often feel logical yet hard to internalize, we will explore together how awareness—drawing on the work of spiritual teacher and author Anthony de Mello—can help bridge that gap.
We look forward to seeing you at the event!
**Preparation:**
We recommend reading this [Article about the book Awareness by A. De Mello](https://becomeconscious.substack.com/p/lessons-from-awareness-by-anthony).
**For Philosophical Minds Zurich theme events in general:**
At our theme events, we begin with a brief topic introduction, followed by engaging discussions in small groups. It’s all about conversation, not just listening. Also, please note, we keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal—**there’s** **no pressure to speak in front of anyone**.
**Important:** When you register for the event, please commit to it and don't be a NO SHOW. Presumably, when the ancient philosophers decided to go to an event, they kept to it.
We look forward to seeing you.
**Payment:** You can pay at the venue (Twint/Revolut/Cash). Thus, if you want to register at Meetup just click attend - no more needed ;).
We look forward to seeing you.

African Drumming Classes
### [Info and Registration African Drumming](https://forms.gle/wSUGNXMjHBDSePNaA)
### **African Drumming – Feel the Groove!**
Discover the joy of rhythm and community through the vibrant beats of West African drumming. In this course, you’ll learn traditional and modern rhythms on djembes and doundouns (bass drums and bells) — all in a fun, structured, and hands-on way.
We’ll explore the essentials of rhythm and groove, from understanding pulse, beat, and cycle to experiencing how different instruments interact in an ensemble. You’ll play, listen, improvise, and even create your own arrangements together with the group.
Body percussion exercises help you *feel* rhythm from head to toe, while guided theory inputs deepen your understanding of African musical structures — intros, solos, signals, and more.
Our holistic approach connects body, mind, and soul. Through intuitive rhythm games, easy-to-follow exercises, and attention to technique, you’ll build coordination, confidence, and a relaxed, flowing playing style.
Structured learning materials (notation and videos) support your practice between sessions — so you can keep the groove going wherever you are!
A funny and welcoming group is awaiting YOU!
**Reduced rates for holders of IV/AHV and Kulturlegi!**
Trial session is possible.

ZUG 🌿 Remove Invasive Plants Together!
🌿 **Help Restore Native Nature in Zug – Remove Invasive Plants Together!**
🛠 **What to Expect**
Join us for a hands-on community action to protect local biodiversity in **Zug**!
We’ll be working together **to remove invasive and non-indigenous plants** that threaten the native ecosystem. These species spread aggressively and outcompete the plants that local wildlife depends on.
This time, we will focus on removing the **Butterfly Bush (Buddleja**). Although it provides nectar for adult butterflies, it is not a host plant for most native caterpillars. When invasive plants replace native vegetation, butterfly diversity declines and disrupt local ecosystems.
Before we begin, **Stadt Zug Werkhof** will give a short introduction about the environmental impact of invasive plants and why removing them matters.
Come get your hands dirty, meet friendly like-minded people, and make **a visible impact in our local community.**
Together, we can help native plants 🌿— and butterflies 🦋— thrive again!
🗓 **Date & Time**

🌿 **Heimische Natur in Zug stärken – Gemeinsam invasive Pflanzen entfernen!**
🛠 **Was erwartet**

Columbus Educational Leaders Networking Event
## Overview
Networking event for aspiring school leaders interested in building their own high-quality K-12 public school in their community.
**About the Event:**
Aspiring school founders in the Columbus, OH, area are invited to join us for this special in-person networking event where you will be able to ask questions, learn more about the BES Fellowship and make sure you are prepared for the application process and beyond.
In addition to meeting like-minded leaders who are also committed to transforming education and bringing a high-quality K-12 option to their community, you’ll have the opportunity to meet our team and gain special insights from Dr. Chaundria Smith, BES Senior Director of Fellowship Coaching, who works closely to support BES Fellows.
During this event, you can also learn more about the various regions across Ohio we are prioritizing for the BES Fellowship to ensure that new schools will respond to the needs of their community.
**About the BES Fellowship:**
Leaders in the BES Fellowship embark on a multi-year process to design, found, and lead an excellent K-12 public school that reflects and responds to community needs.
We are currently accepting applications to the 2026 BES Fellowship. The extended deadline is March 30, and the 2026 Cohort will begin August 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. Learn more at [bes.org/fellowship](http://bes.org/fellowship "http://bes.org/fellowship").
Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association:
They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Making Moves: Small-Group Coaching for Women in Product
## Hey Columbus WIP peeps!
## Are you ready for an event that actually gives you what you asked for??
**\-\-\-\-\-\-**
**A Small-group coaching conversations for women in product navigating growth, leadership, and career decisions.**
**March 10 \| 5:30–8:00 PM**
**Rev1 -- NEW SPACE**
**330 Rush Alley #100**
**Parking Options:**
• **Rev1 at The Peninsula**

• **LAZ Parking (COSI)** – 50 Belle St.
• **LAZ Parking Limited** – 375 W. State St.
• **Veterans Memorial Lot** – 300 W. Broad St.
• **Metered Street Parking**
**What moves are you making?**
A promotion you’re working toward.
A role change you’re considering.
A bigger leadership opportunity.
A conversation that needs to happen.
A decision that’s been sitting in the back of your mind.
For our Q1 Women in Product Columbus event, we’re creating space to actually work through those moments.
**Making Moves** is an evening of focused, facilitated coaching conversations with experienced mentors from our local product community. This isn’t a panel. It’s not passive networking. It’s small-group dialogue designed to be thoughtful, practical, and worth your time.
Here’s how it will work:
• You’ll choose a topic that reflects what you’re navigating right now
• You’ll join a small coaching circle (5–7 participants)
• Each circle is led by a mentor who has lived experience in that area
• We’ll run two rounds so you can go deeper or explore a second conversation
### Coaching Topics:
• Communicating the Value of Your Work (or Team)
• Career Transitions & What’s Next
• Growing Into Leadership
• Staying Relevant as Technology (and AI) Changes
• Getting Alignment and Decisions from Leadership
Our goal is simple: you leave with clearer thinking, practical perspective, and at least one next step you feel confident about.
Space in each circle will be limited to keep conversations meaningful.
If this sounds like the kind of room you’ve been wanting to be in, we’d love to see you on March 10.
