🖼 Eröffnung "United by Queerness" @ QWIEN
🖼 Eröffnung "United by Queerness" @ QWIEN
English: Since 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest has been much more than just a music competition. As a transnational media event, it reflects European moods, political divisions and pop culture developments as well as national self-promotion. For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, the ESC is also a central place for queer visibility – and thus a space for belonging, representation and negotiation. The exhibition ‘United by Queerness’ is dedicated to these tensions between diversity and nationalism, inclusion and exclusion. It follows a three-part spatial concept – from the living room to the arena to the stage – and shows how the ESC is experienced, celebrated and politically interpreted. Qwien thus makes the queer dimensions of the ESC visible and reflects on it as a pop-cultural phenomenon that continues to spark debate to this day.

Cloud Native Vienna: February 2026 Meetup
Cloud Native Vienna: February 2026 Meetup
We'd like to invite you to our second installation for the Cloud Native Vienna Meetups in 2026! Again we'll have two deep-dive talks and time to network and chat with friends in the Viennese cloud native community. A big thank you to **willhaben** for hosting us and providing food and drinks! The meetup will take place at the **willhaben** (Bürozentrum 1, Landstraßer Hauptstraße 97-101, 1030 Wien). You can reach the office from inside the “Galleria Landstraße” mall. After entering through the main entrance, you’ll find the entrance to Bürozentrum 1 (a big red door) on your right, just past the chocolate shop. Take the elevator to floor 3A (look for the button with the willhaben logo). **Agenda:** * **17:30:** Doors Open & Networking * **17:55:** Welcome from the Organizers * **18:00:** **Talk 1:** Lukas Zainzinger – ***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality*** * **18:45:** Break & Refreshments * **19:00:** **Talk 2:** David Hondl – ***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD*** * **19:45:** Open Networking We look forward to seeing you there! \-\-\- **Talks:** Lukas Zainzinger (willhaben) ***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality*** Migrating to managed services is rarely a plug-and-play experience. In this talk, we walk through Willhaben’s transition to Managed Kafka on AWS (MSK), sharing the authentic story of our integration rather than a textbook tutorial. We will dive into the specific hurdles we faced, focusing on how we engineered solutions for strict security and access control requirements. Additionally, we’ll discuss the financial aspect—specifically the pricing issues we encountered and the adjustments we made to solve them. This isn't a lecture on the "one right way" to do things, but a transparent look at the decisions, challenges, and learnings we gathered along our own journey. *Bio:* Lukas joined willhaben as a Platform SRE in 2024, following a career path that transitioned from Application Management to specialized DevOps roles at Raiffeisen Informatik, Shöpping and Siemens. Throughout his journey, he has developed a deep expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform and multiple Cloud Providers, always with an eye toward improving developer experience and system reliability. Currently a Master’s student at Hochschule Burgenland, Lukas bridges the gap between academic cloud research and real-world infrastructure challenges. He is particularly passionate about leveraging cloud-native and managed services to build robust, fault-tolerant infrastructure. David Hondl (Dynatrace) ***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD*** Argo CD is one of the most popular and widely spread GitOps tools for Kubernetes and part of the backbone of many internal developer platforms. Also Argo CD can undoubtedly be a beast - and a huge one at that, as anyone scaling it for a production environment has probably seen in one way or another. But what if simply having a massive installation is not enough for us? What if we want to go even bigger from here, raise it to beyond what we thought feasible? Create more Applications, more ApplicationSets and render more resources at the same time? These are the questions that we will tackle in this talk. We are going to take a look at the different Argo CD components, from the frontend to the K8s controllers and how they behave at scale. We will examine how far they can bend and especially when and how they will break. Based on what we find, we are going to figure out how to tweak these parts in just the right way. And in the end we will hopefully be able to turn Argo CD into a bigger monster than it ever was. *Bio:* I'm a Cloud Engineer at Dynatrace and I'm super passionate about all things Platform Engineering and the cloud-native community. I use (and build) platforms to create better developer experiences and love to share my knowledge as a speaker as well as actively organize meetups around the topic.

STRAIGHT TALKING - Turan Ali's solo comedy show
STRAIGHT TALKING - Turan Ali's solo comedy show
The outrageous solo comedy show by Turan Ali, is back by popular demand! STRAIGHT TALKING is back in Vienna for a third and final time, written and performed by Vienna Storytelling Collective's Turan Ali. After selling out in Volkstheater Rote Bar twice in 2025, this is a final chance to see Ali’s outrageously funny and thought-provoking solo comedy show, Straight Talking. It's an evening of shockingly candid truths. Where do straights go wrong in their lives? What can gays can teach straights about leading the lives they really want to live? Mixing comedy-storytelling, performance poems, ukulele songs, fabulous costumes and much more, Ali delivers outrageous claims with his much-celebrated, provocative direct-speaking. What the critics have said about Turan Ali : “Utterly fabulous.” (The Q Review) "An absolutely splendid human…a masterful storyteller" (The Wee Review) “Like the best stand-up comedians, his material has been tried, tested and perfected for an audience. It was a joy to watch” (Broadway Baby) “Highly recommended! Entertaining, educational and emotive” (Fringe Review) Turan Ali is an acclaimed stand-up comedian and storyteller from London, now based in Vienna with a very Turkish name, Austrian roots and a big mouth. He writes, produces and directs drama and comedy for the BBC, and performs comedy and stories on stage throughout Europe. This is high quality, intelligent, camp and provocatively queer comedy. An outrageously clever solo show. “I laughed my arse off the whole night” (audience member April 2025) Ali makes sense of having a Turkish Muslim father, an Austrian Catholic mother, growing up in London, going to a Jewish school, and being gay and proud of it. But not all parts of his world cope well with that pride. In this solo show, Straight Talking, Ali shines a light on some of the crazy ways heterosexuals run their lives and relationships, with many surprising things he claims straights can learn from gays. Expect outrageous stories, silliness, shocking confessions and incendiary suggestions, all delivered very queerly, through exceedingly straight talking. But, however funny it is, can you handle the truth? Tickets only available from Volkstheater: https://www.volkstheater.at/event/3184961/straight-talking/inhalt/ Book early - it will be sold out again.

In this Meetup we'll explore the philosophic justifications for free speech and analyze the ideas and policies that threaten it. **POINTS OF DISCUSSION** * What is free speech? * What is its philosophic justification? * By what mechanism is free speech protected by the government? * Are there exceptions to free speech not protected by the first amendment, such as shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater? * Are "hate speech" and “mis-, dis- and malinformation," unique forms of speech that should be banned by private companies and/or the government? * Does the right to free speech conflict with the rights of companies like Chase, Facebook, PayPal, Etsy, and Airbnb to "de-platform" their users? * What are new threats to free speech that have arisen over the past two decades? **(Required viewing:** [The History Of The Censorship Industry](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFmln08Dq1U)) * What are the most concerning threats to free speech in 2026? After the event, any interested guests will be invited to continue the conversation at a nearby restaurant. \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Our Meetup location, Le Pain Quotidien, is a private business; so that our group remains welcome, please don't arrive with beverages purchased from outside, and please be willing to purchase at least one beverage and/or menu item from our waitress (rather than on the way in). **AN IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING NO-SHOWS** Unfortunately, there is a longstanding problem in our group with large numbers of people who sign up frivolously and neither cancel nor show up, leading to large waiting lists of others who lose their opportunity to attend. Please note that going forward, those who sign up and neither cancel nor show up or habitually cancel at the last minute will be permanently removed from the group. They'll provide an overview of total communication to broaden understanding of how all individuals use different forms of communication depending on our anatomy, physiology, cognition, preferences, and personality, as well as how we may code-switch depending on the setting, context, and our current state. The importance of being an informed and welcoming communication partner will be discussed to broaden perspectives on the significance of human connection.
