RubyZG January Meetup @ Productive
RubyZG January Meetup @ Productive
Hello everyone, I'm happy to announce our next meetup will be hosted by [Productive](https://productive.io) (Strojarska 20, 5th floor). We'll have an interesting talk followed by a panel discussion, both centered around the challenges of "data imports". The panel brings together experts from a wide range of company sizes and language backgrounds, so we can explore the topic from hands-on implementation to broader business impact. Stick around afterwards for some food, drinks, and conversations. Hope to see you at Productive! \*\*\* **Data Imports** by Borna Artić At Productive, we import a lot of data, and doing it reliably has turned out to be trickier than it looks. In this talk I'll start with the "why": what imports solve for us, what kinds of data we bring in, and what we learned from earlier approaches. Then we'll walk through the current importer and the tradeoffs behind it: validating messy input, keeping complexity under control, and making it fast enough to run at scale. We'll also touch on edge cases like custom fields, missing relationships, and handling repeated data updates. **Panel: Data Imports Across Industries** Panelists: \- Josip Stuhli\, CTO at SofaScore \(PHP\) \- Dario Daić\, Product Architect at ButterflyMX \(Ruby\) \- Borna Artić\, Backend Engineer at Productive \(Ruby\) Moderator: Bruno Sutić After the talk, we'll keep the momentum with a panel discussion on data imports. We'll start from the hands-on problems you see in Ruby code, then zoom out to questions of architecture and long-term maintainability, and finally to the company-level impact: how data flows affect other teams, product decisions, and what the business can (and can't) do with the information it has. Expect a practical conversation with real tradeoffs rather than perfect answers. The panel brings together interesting people across seniority levels, company sizes, and language backgrounds.
**Predavanje je otvoreno za developere i freelancere, studente i tech entuzijaste i sve znatiželjnike koje zanima AI, bez obzira na razinu znanja.** **Ekstra pojmovi:** AI, LLM, AI Agents, Agentic Chatbot, RAG, OpenSearch, ElasticSearch **Okvirni raspored:** **17:15** \- Vrata **17:35** \- Predavanje **19:00** \- Druženje ***🇬🇧:*** *In this talk, we will explore the engineering behind building an **Agentic Chatbot** designed to **help clinicians navigate vast libraries** of surgical videos and medical transcripts. If Croatian is not your native language and you're interested to attend the event, the presentation can be held in English so please **RSVP** and reach out to the organizer.*

The Woo team in Zagreb: Platform updates, roadmap, and what’s next
The Woo team in Zagreb: Platform updates, roadmap, and what’s next
At the last meetup, we examined WooCommerce under pressure. Security failures, AI agents behaving badly, and real examples of how stores get compromised. This time, we’re flipping the angle! The Winter 2026 Zagreb WooCommerce Meetup focuses on how the platform is being built and steered today. We’re hosting speakers from Automattic and the WooCommerce team to walk through recent platform updates, what’s currently being prioritized, and what’s coming next. You’ll hear what has shipped, what’s changing in key areas like checkout and blocks, and how upcoming work is likely to affect developers and merchants building on Woo. You’ll also get roadmap context straight from the people shaping it. Seeing these folks in person in Croatia doesn’t happen often! If you build, maintain, or sell on WooCommerce, this meetup should make your next set of technical decisions easier. **+++++++++++++++++++++** **Lecture 01** **\- What’s new in Woo: latest updates & what’s coming next** WooCommerce has been moving fast. Checkout extensibility, shipping and fulfillment changes, block-first experiences, the Interactivity API, and a growing layer of AI features are no longer “experimental” but becoming the default. In this talk, Brian and Shani will walk through the most important recent changes in WooCommerce and what’s coming next. Expect concrete examples, platform context, and guidance on how these changes affect real-world Woo builds. **Brian Coords** is a developer advocate at WooCommerce and a long-time WordPress developer, writer, and instructor. He hosts a WordPress podcast at Webmasters_fm and writes for WP Tavern, MasterWP, The WP Minute, and his own technology blog. **Shani Banerjee** is a developer advocate at WooCommerce, where she hosts monthly developer office hours and writes about platform updates and extensibility on the WooCommerce developer blog. Her work is shaped by a strong community-first background spanning support, software engineering, and education. **+++++++++++++++++++++** **Lecture 02** **\- The state of WooCommerce: where we are & where we’re going** In this session, Brent will zoom out and talk about how WooCommerce is positioning itself today: what’s driving the roadmap, how Woo thinks about high-growth merchants, and how the platform is evolving to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded eCommerce landscape. This is the “why” behind the updates which will help you understand the bigger picture: the product, market, and ecosystem context that rarely gets discussed outside closed rooms. **Brent MacKinnon** is director of product marketing and developer advocacy at WooCommerce (Automattic). He leads go-to-market strategy, developer relations, and analyst engagement, and focuses on making complex platform decisions understandable to builders and merchants alike. He’s based in Halifax, Canada. **+++++++++++++++++++++** **AGENDA** 18:00 - Meet & greet 18:05 - Talk: What’s new in Woo: latest updates & what’s coming next 18:40 - Q&A 19:00 - Talk: The state of WooCommerce: where we are & where we’re going 19:35 - Q&A After - Pizza & Beer 🍕🍺

The days are cold and sometimes snowy, the city quieter, more reflective. It’s the season for winter walks, museums and cinemas, snow-dusted hikes on Sljeme, and simple pleasures like warm food and long conversations indoors.🌍💖💬 Zagreb is unusual in that winter can mean a mini ski break close to home. Sljeme offers easy slopes for beginners and casual skiers, without crowds or queues. Ice skating adds to the rhythm, outdoors at Šalata or indoors at Velesajam and the Admiral Ice Dome. ⛸️🎿 And the best way to share it? At **[SFIZ.FUN](https://sites.google.com/view/smallfridayinternationalzagreb)**. Our meetups are where plans get made, tips get swapped, and crews form to explore Zagreb together. 🌍💖 🍺 **Why The Beertija?** Because it’s that place everyone ends up wishing they’d gone to 😏✨ Warm beer cellar vibes 🍻🔥, cosy living-room energy 🛋️☕, 🚭 non-smoking inside (happy clothes, happy lungs 😌), plus a covered outdoor patio for quick smoke breaks 🚬😉. Skip it, and you’ll hear about it later 👀💬 💡 Top tip: Turn up early, smile, catch someone’s eye, and dive into conversation, that’s how the magic starts 😉💫 No pressure, just rock up and join the crew. 💖 Let’s ditch the screen, grab a drink, and meet the world! See you soon, **SFIZ Crew** P.S. Spread the word https://sites.google.com/view/smallfridayinternationalzagreb 🔎 **How to Spot Us** New here? Best trick is to swing by right at the start, that’s when it’s easiest to find the crew and jump straight in, or ask the bar staff about the event ✨ Need quick updates or can’t see us straight away? No worries, our [WhatsApp group](https://sites.google.com/view/smallfridayinternationalzagreb/faq/sfiz-whatsapp-guide-keeping-it-fun-and-respectful) is where you can ask quick questions. 💖 #ZagrebGlobalMingle 💖
