Calisthenics Outdoor Workout
Outdoor calisthenics workouts are a fantastic way to build strength, improve fitness, and enjoy the great outdoors 😁🦾 Calisthenics is a form of strength training that uses the resistance of your body and gravity to help strengthen your muscles and improve your coordination, endurance, and mobility. It’s a workout that relies on body weight with little or no equipment. In fact, almost all common bodyweight exercises are considered calisthenics exercises. Some examples include: - airsquats - pushups - pullups - frogstand -handstand -musclup -backlever aso 😁 Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced athlete, calisthenics provides a holistic approach to fitness. 🏋️‍♂️💪
The Talented Mr. Ripley: Book vs. Film
The Talented Mr. Ripley: Book vs. Film
“The name Patricia Highsmith designates for me a sacred territory,” writes Slavoj Žižek, “a figure whose position among writers is comparable to the place Spinoza holds for Deleuze—the Christ among philosophers. When one speaks of Highsmith, one should tread carefully, for one is walking through my dreams.” — “[Immoral, and Yet Ethical!](https://slavoj.substack.com/p/immoral-and-yet-ethical)” For our book club meeting, I propose The Talented Mr. Ripley, the novel in which Tom Ripley first appears and in which Patricia Highsmith discovers what would become her most unsettling double. For her, Ripley is not just a character but a kind of externalized ego: Highsmith later signed her mail as “Tom (Pat)” and even appended his name to her own. Ripley is a man without qualities, yet with a perfect ear for the intonations of others. He can be anyone, because being himself is unbearable. To make our discussion even more interesting, I suggest reading the novel alongside its 1999 film adaptation by Anthony Minghella, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwyneth Paltrow. It is not the only cinematic version of Highsmith’s work, but it remains the most celebrated—and perhaps the most seductive. We’ll discuss what changes when Ripley moves from page to screen: morality versus beauty, inner emptiness versus outward glamour, and the question of [why we want what Tom Ripley has.](https://www.newyorker.com/podcast/critics-at-large/why-we-want-what-tom-ripley-has) Links for inspiration: * Slavoj Žižek, [Immoral, and Yet Ethical!](https://slavoj.substack.com/p/immoral-and-yet-ethical) * The New Yorker podcast, [Critics at Large: Why We Want What Tom Ripley Has](https://www.newyorker.com/podcast/critics-at-large/why-we-want-what-tom-ripley-has)

Gentle Deep Conversations & Drinks: What Are You Growing Into This Year?🌱
Gentle Deep Conversations & Drinks: What Are You Growing Into This Year?🌱
Let’s meet in the middle of March for a gentle, warm, and slightly unpredictable afternoon together. As winter slowly gives way to spring — a season when everything begins to awaken again — we’ll take a moment to reflect on the question: What Are You Growing Into This Year? 🌱 🌟 What to expect A small circle of open-minded people, with tea, coffee, or food in hand, sharing reflections, philosophy, psychology, or simply ideas and inspirations that arise naturally in the moment. The topic is suggested above, and the conversation will flow organically. 🪄 We’ll explore the questions step by step, from light to deeper, in a roundtable format. For example: • What’s your name, where are you from, and what are you doing in Luxembourg? • What is something new you have started exploring this year? • If this year had a theme for you so far, what would it be? • What small change in your life has already made a difference this year? • Is there a skill or quality you would like to develop more this year? • What are you currently investing more time or energy in? • Is there something you are slowly letting go of this year? • What kind of person do you feel you are slowly becoming? • What has helped you grow the most in recent years: people, challenges, or experiences? • If this year goes well for you, what might look different by the end of it? • What is one quiet intention you have for the rest of this year? • …and whatever else naturally emerges. There’s no pressure to share deeply — listening is just as welcome as speaking. ✨ 📌 Practical details 📍 Venue: Le Quai Steffen – Gare de Luxembourg | Restaurant 📅 Date: Sunday, March 15, 2026 🕒 Time: 15:00 – 17:00 👥 Group size: Up to 12 people ☕ Food & drinks: Everyone orders and pays individually Since this is a rather specific topic, the group will stay small. If you find that you can’t attend, please cancel your spot so someone else can join. If you enjoy authentic connection, gentle humour, openness to different perspectives, and curiosity about others — not just what they do, but who they are — you’re very welcome to join. 🫶

Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!

The Listening Room — First Gathering
The Listening Room — First Gathering
**The Listening Room — First Gathering** So much of life happens in loud spaces and quick conversations that never quite go beneath the surface. The Listening Room is meant to be the opposite of that — a quieter space where people can slow down, talk honestly, and actually listen to one another. For this first gathering, we’ll meet in a small group and explore a simple conversation prompt together. The goal isn’t debate or performance — just thoughtful conversation and the chance to connect with others in a genuine way. Our prompt for this gathering will be: **When have you felt truly seen or understood by another person?** Everyone will have the opportunity to share if they’d like, but there’s absolutely no pressure — listening is just as valuable as speaking here. We’re keeping the group intentionally small so the conversation can feel relaxed and natural. Looking forward to meeting you. — Benny

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
