Distribution Event - Atheists Helping the Homeless
Distribution Event - Atheists Helping the Homeless
**Looking to** \- Help out neighbors in the DC area? \- Support a secular charity? \- Connect with other atheists and humanists? Join Atheists Helping the Homeless DC at our monthly distribution event! Atheists Helping the Homeless is a 501(c)(3) charity that distributes items like backpacks, socks, gloves, and toiletries to people in need throughout the Washington, DC region. We meet up on the second Saturday of every month outside of a homeless shelter in Silver Spring, MD, called Progress Place, and pass out whatever items we have to whoever is there. Each month we serve between 60 - 100 people. Afterwards, we usually go out for breakfast. Our goal is to provide a way for people to help each other without affiliating with a religion. Our method is to go straight to those in need, and create a welcoming and fun atmosphere to effectively create an environment where secular community can grow and thrive. If this sounds fun, see you there!

NETWORK OF LIGHT HEART TO HEART CELEBRATION VALENTINE'S DAY Saturday February 14, 2026 Dearest Friends, From my heart to your heart, you are so wonderful! Please know that I adore you. It has been my greatest pleasure to know God and be guided to create the Network of Light in 1979. And I have loved all my moments with you. At 87 years young, it is extremely hard for me to consider leaving you to go to a community living situation. That is why it has been almost impossible to get this Valentine's Day invitation out to you. The Network of Light is coming up on our 47th Anniversary!!! And yes indeed, we are once again celebrating Valentine's Day. Please do join us Saturday, February 14th. A Very Special Thanks to Tracy Trisko - Board member and my right hand for 26 years Bruce McBarnette - Light Giver and Coordinator of Sukyo Mahikari Padma Foye- Food and Kitchen Queen Phil Jones - Our Master Fire Builder and Board member I so very much appreciate everyone who has stepped forward as part of the Network of Light team and helped over all these years. With Love, Light, and Good Will to each of you! Lakshmi 5:00 pm - Time to Meet and Greet New and Old Friends 5:30 pm - Meditation and Heart to Heart Sharing led by Lakshmi Let's share Heart-to-Heart what is deeply true in us. Tom and John are truly world musicians having participated in many traditions east and west. Tom has toured the Mideast with the US State Department. John has spent many years in India studying with many masters, including the bansuri mater Hariprasad Chaurasia. Tom and John often improvise and play a unique ecletic brand of music that is captivating and healing. Because both Tom and John both have a world music vocabulary, their mustic canoot be defined, except for the pure joy please experience when they play. Come dance and listen to these world class musicians. "I am always thankful to music for leading deep into the heart and many spiritual adventures. When I release a record or record some music, I want it to reflect the ecstatic state of being I've felt with my music and spiritual masters. If that feeling is not there, then all the technique and musical sophistication mean nothing. And if that magic is there, even the playing of a few notes can say so much. This journey is not over!" John Wubbenhorst Tom Teasley is not just a percussionist - he's a one-man global orchestra. Renowned for his innovative approach to rhythm and sound, Tom fuses jazz, world music and contemporary influences into electrifying performances that defy borders. His music is a living conversation between ancient traditions and cutting-edge improvisation, captivating audiences with a sound that is as adventurous as it is deeply rooted. These Letters End in Tears by Musih Tedji Xaviere
These Letters End in Tears by Musih Tedji Xaviere
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/185767239-these-letters-end-in-tears "**Set in a country where being gay is punishable by law, *These Letters End in Tears* is the heart-wrenching forbidden love story of a Christian girl with a deviant heart and a Muslim girl leading a double life** Bessem notices Fatima for the first time on the soccer field—muscular and focused, she’s the only woman playing and seems completely at ease. When Fatima chases a rogue ball in her direction, Bessem freezes, mesmerized by the athlete’s charm and beauty. One playful wink from Fatima, and Bessem knows her life will never be the same. In Cameroon, a country where same-sex relationships are punishable by law, the odds are stacked against Bessem and Fatima from the start. And when Fatima’s older brother, a staunch Muslim, finds out about their affair, he intervenes by physically assaulting them, an incident that precedes a police raid at the only gay bar in town. After spending days in jail, Fatima goes missing without a trace, and Bessem is left with only rumors of her whereabouts. Has Fatima been sentenced to an unknown prison? Has she been banished from her community, or married off, as some have suggested? Or something even more sinister? Thirteen years later, Bessem is now a university professor leading a relatively quiet life, occasionally and secretly dating other women. However, she has never forgotten Fatima. After spotting a mutual friend for the first time in years—the last person who may have seen Fatima—Bessem embarks on a winding search for her lost love."

**Come Join to Celebrate Charles Darwin's Birthday! Banana Splits will be served! Our Talk is** **Beyond the Bare Bones: What Human Evolution Means to You** The study of human evolution isn't merely an academic exercise in looking backward. It tells us who we are and the kinds of things we do. Hence, it can inform us about our impact on the environment and our future as a species. This presentation will be illustrated with revealing images from the Smithsonian's Hall of Human Origins. Our speaker, Fred Edwords served eleven years as the founding editor of the American Humanist Association’s *Creation/Evolution* journal, refuting creationism in print and on the debate platform. He also served fifteen years as the American Humanist Association's executive director and twelve years as editor of the *Humanist* magazine. This is an in-person meeting only. We serve coffee starting at 10:45. Come then and chat!

In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them. Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance". Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you. The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life. Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is created by the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Central Ohio and Church of Scientology of Central Ohio.
