To be or Nosy Be, that is the question! | Nosy Be Archipelago, Madagascar
**Welcome to Paradise!**
**Nosy Be, meaning "big island" in the Malagasy language**, is a beachy paradise located 8 km off the northwestern coast of Madagascar. **It's in fact a volcanic archipelago with a** **warm tropical climate, pristine white-sand beaches, eleven crater lakes,** and habitats which are home to numerous endemic plant and animal species.
At 320 square kilometers, Nosy Be is the **largest island of an archipelago**, and its several smaller neighbors nearby make it the ideal place for island hopping and sampling an array of picture-postcard beaches. One of the main attractions of the archipelago is its marine life, and waters surrounding many of the islets are **excellent spots for scuba diving and snorkelling**.
The French colonized Nosy Be from 1840, founding an outpost named **Hell-Ville** which became an important trade harbor in the Mozambique Channel. Now the capital, the city offers French colonial buildings and a glimpse of day-to-day local life at its lively markets and craft centers.
In the southeast of Nosy Be is its most famous attraction: **Lokobe National Park,** a 740-hectare sanctuary known for its rare panther chameleon population, black lemurs, geckos, frogs and much more. One of Madagascar's five Strict Nature Reserves, Lokobe encompasses **an old-growth forest with ancient endemic tree species** – the last remaining primary rainforest on the island. A wildlife-spotting trek through this lush coastal haven brimming with ylang-ylang, orchids, palm trees and ferns is an experience to remember.
**Ready to explore the islands of your dreams? Let’s go!**
**DAY 1 // ARRIVAL IN NOSY BE**
Meet at DXB at 2am for a flight via Addis. Arrival, immigration procedure and one-hour drive to our beach-side hotel, where we’ll be based for the duration of the trip. We’ll settle in, indulge in the beautiful surroundings and head for a sunset to Sakatia.
**Sunset at Sakatia**
A short boat ride off the west coast of Nosy Be is Nosy Sakatia, a road-free island with picture-perfect beaches, rare birds and endemic flora. What it’s most known for, however, is its coral reef teeming with ocean life. With its marine ecosystem located inside a protected area, the island’s waters offer an unforgettable snorkelling or diving experience.
**DAY 2 // HELL-VILLE & MONT PASSOT**
We’ll enjoy a relaxing morning, with a trip to the local crafts market for those who are interested in purchasing a souvenir. After lunch at the seaside, we’ll drive about an hour to reach the highest viewpoint in Nosy Be – the dormant volcano Mount Passot. From more than 300m up, we’ll have a magnificent panoramic view of Nosy Be’s volcanic lakes, the surrounding islands, and the sparkling, multi-hued coastal waters.
We’ll settle in and enjoy a beautiful sunset before heading back to the hotel.
**DAY 3 // LOKOBE NATIONAL PARK**
Early departure this morning as we embark on our first adventure, in Lokobe National Park. We’ll hit the road towards the southeast of the island, passing by the capital of Hell-Ville. After about an hour we’ll reach the village of Ambatozavavy, where we’ll pile into local fishing boats and make our way through dense mangrove forests to reach the park.
Our 2-3 hour, ranger-led hike will take us through dense forest and lush greenery, where we’ll keep our eyes peeled to spot endemic wildlife and plants, including lemurs and rare chameleons.
When we’ve had our fill of exploring, we’ll head back to our lodgings, stopping for lunch along the way. Afternoon at leisure for swimming and relaxing on the beach.
**DAY 4 // NOSY ANTSOHA & NOSY IRANJA**
Today we have another magical island excursion, taking in two of Nosy Be’s neighbors. First we’ll make a stop at tiny Nosy Antsoha, where a nature walk will bring us face-to-face with the three different species of lemurs which call the island home.
We’ll continue on to Nosy Iranja, connected to Nosy Be by a sandbank that is covered during high tide and revealed during low tide. Its shores and shallow waters provide a habitat for sea turtles, hence its nickname of “Turtle Island”. In this beautiful, white sand paradise, the inviting waters appear in every shade of blue. We’ll tuck into a picnic lunch on a dreamy beach and enjoy our little piece of heaven. Return to our lodgings in the afternoon and evening at leisure.
**DAY 5 // DEPARTURE**
Morning time at leisure until we say goodbye to paradise and transfer back to the airport for our flight home.
**Grade:** easy and relaxing tropical holidays.
**Activities:** island hopping, trekking, sightseeing, beach strolling, boating. Optional diving.
**Accommodation:** Beach side hotel and spa, shared rooms. Single room at extra cost, subject of availability at the time of booking.

Avatar World | Zhangjiajie National Park + Beijing, China
Among the most amazing natural wonders of the world, the mountains of the national forest park of Zhangjiajie rank so high that they even **inspired famous film director James Cameron**. In fact, one of them has even been renamed after one of Cameron's blockbusters: It is now called **Avatar Hallelujah Mountain**. Here, in south central China, we won't need much fantasy, we will find ourselves in a different world all the way through. So welcome to the real Avatar!
The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a **UNESCO World Heritage Site** located in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Prominent in the park are the pillar-like formations, often depicted in ancient Chinese paintings, resembling karst terrain but not formed by limestone dissolution. Instead, they've been shaped over time by physical erosion, notably from expanding ice in winter and plant growth.
It might come as a surprise to us UAE residents, but the park is also home to the **world's longest and highest pedestrian glass bridge** as well as the "hundred dragons sky lift" (Bailong Elevator), the world's tallest outdoor lift.
In Avatar's footsteps, we will have the chance to reconnect with nature's primal energy while hiking in the most awe-inspiring scenery of the Grand Canyon, The Golden Whip Stream and the Ten Mile Gallery. Towering peaks, deep valleys, and mist-shrouded cliffs, will offer a **glimpse into the ethereal beauty** that has inspired countless artists and poets throughout history.
But what would a trip to fantasy land be without exploring mysterious caves? With a massive size of 48 ha, the Huanglong Cave stretches over some 15 km; the highest of its three waterfalls reaching 50 m. We are not surprised that this place is called "Yellow Dragon's Cave" in Chinese!
If otherworldly impressions are your pair of shoes, here is one for the **Avatar mountains floating in the clouds.**
**Let’s go!**
**Day 0**
Meeting at airport at 22:00 for a flight to Beijing.
**Day 1**
Arrival to Beijing, immigration clearance. Given the transfer time allows, short visit in **Ti’an men square** **and Forbidden City**. Connecting flight to Zhangjiajie, transfer to hotel and overnight.
**Day 2**
Prepare for an exhilarating day exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. We'll begin by ascending via **cableway to Huangshizhai**, where breathtaking views await. After taking in the panorama, we'll embark on a hike down, immersing ourselves in the natural beauty of the area.
Later, we'll venture into the enchanting surroundings of **Golden Whip Stream**, where tranquil waters and towering sandstone pillars create a serene atmosphere perfect for exploration.
**Day 3**
Today we ascend the **Bailong Elevator to Yuangjiajie**, where we'll be greeted by stunning views of the towering pillar-like rock formations which provided inspiration for the otherworldly scenery in the movie Avatar. From here, we'll embark on a scenic **hike down from** **Tianzi Mountain**, where mist-shrouded cliffs and lush valleys awaits. There are dense woods, fragrant flowers and grotesque rocks in this valley, true natural art gallery. Later on, we'll explore the landscapes of the Ten-Mile Gallery with its 200 rocks vividly mimic profiles of human and animals.
**Day 4**
Lace up your hiking boots for an unforgettable trek through the majestic **Grand Canyon** of Zhangjiajie. We will cross longest and **highest glass-bottomed bridge** in the world, 430m long, 6m wide, suspended 300m above the valley floor. Built among high mountains and a gorge, it also has a bungee platform in the center.
Further on, we head inside the depths of **Huanglong Cave**, where stunning rock formations and underground waterfalls awaits for a charming glimpse on the underworlds.
**Day 5**
Our trip could not be concluded without visiting two iconic landmarks. First, we'll take in the serene beauty of **Baofeng Lake**, nestled amidst lush forests and towering peaks. Then, we'll ascend the summit of **Tianmen Mountain via cable car**. It will not be easy to bid farewell to Zhangjiajie as we transfer to the airport for flight to Beijing, overnight in Beijing.
**Day 6**
Check out early in the morning and transfer to the **Great Wall of China**. Our trip to Beijing would, of course, not be complete without enjoying the **famous Peking Duck for lunch**. In the evening, transfer to the airport and fly back home.
**Level:** Easy, available for everyone.
**Activities:** trekking, sightseeing.
**Accommodation & meals:** 4 star hotel - double sharing, meals excluded, except lunch DAY 6.

Geometry of Silence | Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan
Southwest Kazakhstan, called **Mangystau, is a land of vast, wind-whipped deserts and stunning limestone mountains** that form the bottom of deep depression basins. The area boasts an unparalleled variety of desert landscapes and geological wonders, making it a hidden surprise of a **truly extraterrestrial character,** **in a remote Kazakh corner.**
At first glance, it may appear as a remote desert wilderness, but take a closer look and you’ll see something more profound: a vast, **natural geometry curved by time**, offering a journey not just across space, but deep into Earth’s prehistoric past.
**Here, the nature played an inspired architect** and created colorful canyons, peaks and towers, which are translated today into rainbow castles, yurt mountains or tiramisu valleys. The northern part of the peninsula is covered by fields of limestone concretions and fossils of ancient sea creatures. These fossils provide evidence of the region's connection to the prehistoric sea, housing remnants of fish, sponges, corals, and even whales. You are standing at the shores of Sarmatian Sea, remnants of the prehistoric Tethys Ocean, and the Paratethys, that 250 to 50 million years ago covered the Caspian and Black Seas, to the Aral Lake.
**Mangystau is also known for its sacred places**, making it famous in the region. What sets the local mosques apart is that they don't resemble typical Muslim temples with domed roofs and minarets. Instead, their facades are predominantly shaped by nature, showing little evidence of human interference.
Today, standing on the ancient seabed under a wide Kazakh sky, **it’s hard not to feel both humbled and awed**. Where forms has been sculpted into infinity, there is no need for sound. **Desert speaks directly to your soul, through its vast and timeless geometry.**
[See the clip here](https://vimeo.com/1015662135?share=copy)
**Let’s go!**
**DAY 1 // Tuesday**
Direct flight to Aktau. Arrival, immigration clearance and check-in to hotel. Rest of the evening at leisure.
**Day 2 // Wednesday**
We will kick start our 4WD expedition into wilderness with **Kapamsay Canyon** \- chalk oasis of white cliffs standing against the azure sky\. In fact it’s a bottom of a dry riverbed\, an amazing hideout with rare but resilient plants\.
Further on we continue to **Shakpaktysai Canyon** where will visit first the underground mosque Shakpak-Ata. The underground mosque is carved into a chalky rock mountain. It is known that Sufis who once lived in this cave practiced healing rituals. They helped people who came here seeking a cure for their illnesses. To do this, the sick person was left in the cave overnight. It was believed that during the night, a benevolent spirit would visit the sick person and drive the illness away. Even today, people continue to come here with the hope of being healed.
On our list of curiosities of the day, next one is **Valley of Balls** in Torysh.
The stone formations of Torysh stretch for hundreds of kilometers on both sides of the hills, creating a unique landscape. Where the rock layers were broken vertically, long ridges made of stones of different sizes were formed. Where the layers were broken horizontally, the stones formed fields filled with round shapes that look like balls, eggs, mushrooms, UFOs, cylinders, nesting dolls, and even animals.
Such unusual and imaginative stone fields can be found in the area of Torysh.
We continue to **Sherkala rock**, which was once a fortress of the eldest son of Genghis Khan, Jochi. This legendary place was built in the Middle Ages, to secure the paths of Great Silk Way. “Sherkala” – by the translation from Turkmen language means “lion fortress” (“sher” – lion, “kala” – fortress).
Time to wrap up and head to our camp for a night in yurts.
**DAY 3 // Thursday**
Today we are set to explore **Sor Tuzbair, salt flats desert** with chalky hills and limestone cliffs. After rain the salt flats transform into a reflective surface mirroring the sky and the nearby dazzling white cliffs. This sight will stun even those who are not easily impressed. Here you ll learn the names of belemnite and ammonite, while if you re lucky you may come across fossilized prehistoric shark teeth.
First we head to **Airakty Mountains,** which look like a magical castle, with spires, towers, columns, and fortress-like walls. The main sights of the valley include mysterious grottos, unusual caves, and formations that resemble palaces with colonnades, temples with domes, and Gothic-style spires.
A winding trail, formed by wild horses, leads up one of the mountains. From the top, there is a stunning viewing platform overlooking the distant Aktau Mountains and the fairy-tale castles of Airakty.
Next, we’ll stop in **Shetpe village**, where we’ll visit a modern caravanserai and taste local food.
From here we continue to **Tuzbair**, a breathtaking natural wonder. This salt flat is a place of pure beauty, defined by just two colors: the brilliant white of the salt and limestone, and the deep blue of the sky on clear days. Approaching Tuzbair from the west offers spectacular views, with three major viewpoints along the way.
Today we sleep in **Bozzhira canyon**, where we set up our camp and spend a night under the stars.
**DAY 4 // Friday**
On the last day of our expedition, its time for well-deserved dessert in the desert! First Tiramisu layers start appearing at **Mt. Bokhty**, which in fact in Kazak means “a pie”.
The road passes along the picturesque Ustyurt Plateau. Mount Bokty lies at the bottom of a dry salt flat, bordered on the north by the small hill of Golbanshe, through which a graded road leads to the Becket Ata Mosque. Bokty Mountain is remarkable for its changing appearance. From different angles, it looks completely different — from one side, it resembles a giant ship turned upside down, while from the south, it looks like a wide, multicolored pyramid stretching across the horizon.
Further on, **Kyzylkup will not leave any doubts to tiramisu lovers!** Gentle layers continue their horizontal alignment as far as your eye can reach.
A last stop at **Karagiye depression (-132 MUSL)** which is one of the deepest places in the world.
Its time to head back to the city for farewell dinner and last overnight in the hotel.
**DAY 5 // Departure**
Its time to head to airport for our return back home. Bye, bye Mangystau!

This Eid, we’re offering **the combo trip of your dreams** with this journey across two of Central Asia’s most beautiful and intriguing countries.
**Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan** each offer many incredible sights, but **the** **loudest “wows” are usually heard by their pristine, high-altitude lakes,** ranging from deep blue to green to electric turquoise. So we’ve cooked up a trip which takes in the most stunning bodies of water in the region, sure to take your breath away – especially if you decide to take a dip!
**Mysterious, mountainous Kyrgyzstan** awes visitors with its idyllic backdrops of green pastures, **alpine lakes and glaciers**, surrounded by dense forest and jagged mountain peaks. Exploring these untouched landscapes on foot and by horseback, traversing hills and valleys where nomads roam, it’s possible to witness a **traditional Kyrgyz way of life which continues as it has for centuries**.
**Scenic vistas abound in the magnificent Tchu Valley**, in the northern part of the famed Tien Shan Mountains, a massive mountain range that runs throughout the ‘stans’ and all the way to China. This beautiful, forested river valley stretches more than 100 km from east to west, and is **home to an array of wildlife** such as alpine ibex, ermines, snow leopards, deer, golden eagles, saker falcons, and bearded vultures.
Enjoying the pure air and clear, starry skies, our adventure will take us to verdant ***jailoos*, high-altitude summer pastures** that Kyrgyz nomads take their flocks to for grazing in the warmer months. Staying with friendly locals, we’ll learn about the nomadic way of life and spend our nights in cozy yurts.
**Kazakhstan, the world’s ninth largest country,** is a rugged natural wonderland of steppes, mountains, woodlands, canyons and lakes. Within its borders lies a section of the Tien Shan range, offering up the gorgeous **Alpine terrain of forests, valleys and snowy peaks** found in the Kolsay Lakes National Park.
In this magical landscape shaped by time and tectonics, more than 100 years ago, **a great earthquake** shook these mountains, resulting in the formation of a new body of water: **Lake Kaindy, with its eye catching,** **bright turquoise waters**. What makes this lake really stand out are the **partially submerged spruce trees** which stand in its waters to this day. Ghostly, bare trunks rise out of the chilly waters, making for a striking panorama – and amazing pictures!
Nearby are the **Kolsay Lakes, known as the "Pearls of Tien Shan"**, reached by a hike through dense, tranquil forest. Trails connect these stunning bodies of water which range from altitudes of 1800 to 2850 meters, making for a great excuse to stretch our legs.
We’ll descend from green heights to dusty depths as we trek into the gorge known as Kazakhstan’s **Grand Canyon**. Known for its stunning similarity to its bigger brother in States, **Charyn Canyon National Park’s** red sandstone rock formations are a stark contrast to the country’s mountainous regions. The **second largest canyon in the world**, Charyn Canyon stretches about 154 km (96 mi) along the banks of the Charyn River. Over millennia, the elements have weathered and shaped the sedimentary rock into **pillars, winding corridors and crevices** just begging to be explored.

Chilla with Silverback Gorilla | Journey Across Rwanda + Uganda
This time we will take you off the beaten trail and bring you inside equatorial wilderness, **African adventure Eldorado**, as we search for gorillas, trek through Uganda jungle, meet the pygmies and take in the views from relaxing shores of Lake Bunyonyi!
Meeting face to face with mountain gorillas is one of the **most overwhelming experiences in the world of safaris**. Encounter of jungle beast, only a few feet away can be scary, but there is no need to panic! They are actually quite calm animals, **laziness ambassadors by excellence.**
Observing the mountain gorillas in their habitat is an amazing spectacle; you will notice the **social dynamics, hierarchy** and most touching of them all, the **gorilla mothers and their babies**, since they live in family units of 30 to 40 members.
The timing spent with them is **mesmerizing and hypnotic, it is impossible to stop looking at them**. They pretend to ignore you, from time to time they cross their gaze with yours, and that is when you realize that the differences between humans and them are minimal. Their eyes speak as the human gaze does, with the movements of the lips we can know if they are smiling, worried or angry, the gestures of the hands are almost identical to ours. **Humans and Gorillas share 98% of DNA.**
The KING of the Jungle, the silver back, is **one of the most beautiful creatures on earth**… he is imposing, majestic, elegant, strong and gorgeous. His sudden appearance can leave you breathless, shivering… but do not worry, he will ignore you - green leaves are tastier for breakfast.
There is a lot of action in the group: **eating, playing, fighting, grooming each other, rolling on the floor, hitting the chest... it is endless**. The baby gorillas will rock it in a proper show of naughtiness… they will make you laugh. Those cute cubs have so much curiosity for humans, so be ready to witness a show of funny and noisy games to catch your attention.
Following the rangers advice, choose a good spot, look around and get the best shots of lifetime memories!
At the beginning, we will **traverse through the jungle aka impenetrable forest**. The length of the trek is entirely dependent on the gorillas, sometimes the guides can track them down in less than two hours, other times it takes much longer.
**Mountain gorillas are nomadic**, travelling in families and staying in an area just long enough to clear it off food. They also don’t follow a clear path, you’ll realize when tracking them, they like to meander. On your first sighting, you may see mothers holding their babies, juvenile gorillas playing, or dominant silverbacks keeping an eye out for their family!
But gorillas are only a part of our trip - we will head to **Lake Bunyonyi, an undiscovered treasure of serenity and scenic views**. We will visit the indigenous Batwa people, who are the original forest dwellers of southwestern Uganda. Expect lots of interactions, cultural demonstrations, and storytelling sessions. The Batwa are known for their vibrant music, dance, and folklore. You can enjoy traditional dances, drumming sessions, and songs that tell stories of their forest life, spiritual beliefs, and the deep connection they have with nature.
Definitely a trip on **the wild side** with more relaxed approach to seek out gorillas in their habitat and enjoy pristine jungle in the **heart of Africa**!

The Awakening | Svalbard Archipelago, Norway
Floating in the upper reaches of the Arctic Ocean, far north of mainland Norway and only **about 1000 km from the North Pole**, the Svalbard archipelago feels like the very frontier of the inhabited world, blanketed in snow and ice for much the year.
Yet in May, this frozen realm begins to soften. The long polar night is over, daylight returns in full force, and the landscape begins to wake up from winter.
Snow still covers the mountains and glaciers, but on lower ground, the **tundra slowly emerges as the thaw sets in**. Bright flowers like purple saxifrage and Arctic poppies dot the otherwise stark scenery, while birds return in growing numbers, reindeer graze on new vegetation, Arctic foxes roam the valleys, and walruses rest on drifting ice. In this magical month of transformation, winter loosens its grip and summer starts edging in.
If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner Arctic adventurer, this is the perfect time and place to do it. Unlike the deep freeze of colder months, May in Svalbard brings milder temperatures, usually between -5°C and +5°C. **Days stretch longer and longer as the midnight sun approaches**, creating excellent conditions for outdoor exploration.
This doesn’t just mean speeding over frozen ground by snowmobile or dogsled. May is also one of the best periods for marine excursions, as retreating sea ice sees fjords begin to open up, making it possible to travel by **boat along glacier walls and remote coastlines**. It also provides us with even more opportunities to spot the true king of the Arctic — the polar bear — roaming along the ice edge.
**To visit Svalbard in May is to enter another world:** one that is frozen yet full of life, where darkness never falls, and you’ll feel like you’ve reached the very edge of the planet.
Pack your snow boots, and get ready for the spring break of a lifetime.
**Let’s go!**
**DAY 1 // Arrival in Longyearbyen & ATV Safari**
Morning flight from Oslo to Longyearbyen, which holds the title of the northernmost town on Earth. It may be small, but this fascinating settlement is humming with life, home to residents, researchers and visitors from around the world.
After check-in and a short rest, we’ll waste no time in heading out for our first adventure: exploring the rugged Arctic terrain by four-wheel ATVs. We’ll leave civilization behind as we navigate gravel tracks through wide valleys, surrounded by mountains and vast open landscapes.
In the evening, we’ll venture out again, gathering in a remote outpost to enjoy a hot meal and hear stories about life in the High Arctic. As the light lingers late into the night, we’ll keep an eye out for wildlife passing by.
**DAY 2 // Fjord Cruise**
Today we trade wheels for water and head out onto the fjords. With the ice gradually retreating, May is a prime month for exploring Svalbard’s spectacular coastline by boat.
As we sail through Isfjorden, passing icy glacier walls which plunge into the sea, keep your camera ready: seabirds circle above, seals rest on floating ice, and walruses may be spotted along the shore. As we sail through some of the most impressive scenery in the archipelago, our guide will share insights into Arctic ecology, geology, and the delicate balance of this environment.
**DAY 3 // High-Speed Coastline Expedition**
This day is for the thrill-seekers! We’ll board inflatable polar boats and set off along the wild western coastline of Spitsbergen, heading towards the shifting boundary where solid pack ice meets open sea.
Riding low in the water, surrounded by monumental glaciers and ice formations, the scale of the environment can truly be felt here. We’ll keep our eye peeled, as this is prime territory for Arctic wildlife – polar bears often patrol here in search of seals, while seabirds gather in enormous colonies along the cliffs.
**DAY 4 // Dogsledding**
Our final full day connects us with one of Svalbard’s most iconic traditions: travelling with Greenland dogs. On wheels rather than snow (due to spring conditions), these strong and incredibly energetic dogs will guide us along the valleys and open terrain outside Longyearbyen. We’ll learn more about this quintessentially polar form of transportation, and feel like the Arctic explorers of old as we race through this ancient landscape.
Afterwards, we’ll return to town for an afternoon at leisure for souvenir shopping, visiting the local museum, or simply soaking in the extraordinary atmosphere of the High Arctic one last time.
**DAY 5 // Departure**
Breakfast at the hotel, then we’ll say goodbye to this magical, frozen wilderness, heads and hearts full of memories as we head to the airport for the return flight to Oslo.

Tiger Nest & Dragon Hearts feat. Punakha | Thimpu + Paro, Bhutan
Famous for its unique culture and stunning landscapes, **Bhutan**, the legendary **Kingdom of the Himalayas**, is a country unlike any other. Often called **the last Shangri-La**, this is a place where time runs slower, and the government operates by the unique philosophy of **Gross National Happiness**.
Many factors contribute to the famed **happiness and contentment** of Bhutan’s population, from the country’s pride in **preserving its traditions**, languages, and customs to the **prioritization of wellbeing** over material wealth. In this land of dense forests and towering mountains, incredible vistas are all around, and a **connection to nature** is deeply ingrained in the culture. In addition, the practice of **Mahayana Buddhism** profoundly influences the Bhutanese way of life, emphasizing inner peace, compassion, and community harmony.
With **stupas and monasteries** on every corner, spirituality is embedded in daily life here. Centuries of religious devotion have led to the creation of incredible landmarks and sacred spaces, including the country’s iconic crown jewel: Taktsang monastery, or **the** **Tiger’s Nest**. One of the most venerated places of pilgrimage in the Himalayas, the monastery appears like something out of a fairy tale, clinging to the rock a towering 800m (2,600ft) above the valley floor.
Nowhere in the Himalayas is the natural environment richer and more diverse than it is in Bhutan, home to high, rugged mountains and deep valleys which have been recognized as one of the world’s ten most important **biodiversity hotspots**. One of Bhutan’s ancient names was Menjong Yul, meaning **‘the land of medicinal herbs’**, and the people’s respect for the natural environment means that even today it remains pristine and mostly undisturbed.
Here we’ll discover ancient spiritual practices, trek into untouched landscapes and feel the awe of nature’s majesty in this hidden corner of the world.

**Let’s go!**
**DAY 1 :: MAY 26**
Recommended departure to Kathmandu at 02:10-08:05.
Connecting flight to Bhutan at 13:00.
On sunny days, the inbound flight to Bhutan is marked by **panoramic views of the Himalayas, including the towering Everest**. The approach through the tiny airstrip of Paro has been termed as “adventurous”, to say the least!
Arrival in the afternoon, after which we’ll check in to the hotel in Thimpu and have our first experience with fiery **Bhutanese cuisine**.
Later we’ll visit Thimphu’s Memorial Stupa, also known as the **Thimphu Chorten**, a prominent religious landmark in the city with its golden spires and bells. Afterwards we’ll take a short 3-4km hike to Kuensel Phodrang, reaching the **gigantic Buddha Dordenma** at the top of the hill. The **50-meter-high, gilt gold** **statue** fulfils an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D. and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.
Overnight in Thimpu.
**DAY 2 :: MAY 27**
Today we drive via Dochu-La Pass to Punakha and hike to iconic **Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility),** located on a round hillock on the edge of Punakha Valley.
After lunch our exploration continues with a visit to the majestic **Punakha Dzong fortress**, a stunning example of traditional Bhutanese architecture which serves as a winter residence for the Dratshang Lhentshog, the commission for the monastic affairs of Bhutan. Built in 1637, it is picturesquely located in between two rivers – the **Pho Chhu (Male River) & Mo Chhu (Female River)** – and houses sacred Buddhist relics.
We’ll then take a walk along the **Punakha suspension bridge**, Bhutan’s longest, stretching 180 m (590 ft) across the water of the Pho Chhu, before checking into the hotel and resting up for the evening.
**DAY 3 :: MAY 28**
Today after breakfast and formalities we’ll drive to the **Dochula Pass (3,100m)** and begin the hike to the 18th century **Lungchutse Lhakhang temple (3,565m)**. This uber picturesque route passes through primary forests of rhododendrons, magnolias, birches, and bamboos, and occasionally meadows being used as yak pastures.
When we reach the temple we’ll be richly rewarded by views over the **entire span of Bhutan’s Himalayan range** and its majestic, snow covered peaks. We will then make our way downhill for about an hour until we reach Dochula Pass, encountering several landmarks and stupas along the path.
In the afternoon we will have an opportunity to witness **rural life in Bhutanese village,** and those who would like to can experience a **traditional** **hot stone bath**. For even richer immersion, there is also the option to spend the night in the village.
**DAY 4 :: MAY 29**
After breakfast we’ll start our last hike, to the sacred **Taktsang Monastery**, known as **the Tiger’s Nest,** situated at an altitude of 3100m in the Upper Paro Valley. During the hike we’ll keep our strength up with a picnic lunch in the woods with spectacular views.
Our ancient destination is the abode of gods and monks, a place of great spiritualty since the 8th century. As per the legend of Taktsang, this was the site of a cave in the sheer cliff face used by mystic Guru Rinpoche for meditation. He assumed a wrathful form, Guru Dorji Drolo, riding a flying tigress to subdue the evil spirits in the area. After many centuries, a religious complex took shape here, clinging to the rock face, with the oldest temple built by a Nyingma Buddhist master around 1508.
